So a typical Spring Training game. Starts out pretty cool, you see some notable players. The jersey numbers get larger and the player names gradually become more obscure. In the end it is decided by guys who probably won’t make the big leagues.

It’s just a fun workout for all at Spring Training.

I will miss Brad’s quick hook, Maddon looks to be like Sosh in that Maddon may like to leave them in to long. But that is all l will miss about Brad.

It’s February 26. Maddon isn’t managing the pitchers to win the game, he’s managing to get them a set number of pitches in. We won’t see the real staff management until the season opens.

Good idea leaving a guy in the game who does not have good stuff and mess up his head while others are waiting to get the call to show what they have. Staff management is in play even in early ST. Working guys no more than 2 innings is showing that. And don’t believe for one second that wins don’t count, players want to always win and judge Joe not only by the moves that he does or does not make but also by their record at every segment of the season. This game by itself does not show what may indicative of what will come the rest of the way, but there is always staff management. l just disagree with leaving Ball in while he was getting tagged is all. You got the Date accurate though.

Makes for no sense to leave him in unless we are doing the Doyers a favor providing BP.

Could be to raise trade value, there is a line in front of him at 2b.

Or to see how he is doing allowing us to trade Rengifo or other IFs ahead in the line. We still need pitching, so knowing what we have is imperative.

Jones needs to learn the K zone and have patience, back to the minors for some learning. He set himself up for that K.

He has a one year deal so if he was smart he wouldn’t be here next year

I don’t think I have read anyone say who were the other prospects involved in the Joc deal but Jose Mota just said Taylor Ward was the other player. So the deal would have been:

LAA Gets:
Pederson
Stripling
Pages

LAD Gets:
Rengifo
Ward

Yep this just keeps adding fuel to the fire. Idk how you do not make this deal. Thanks Arte!

The problem is, you’re describing the deal before the Red Sox blew up the trade with the Dodgers, and a week went by before things were resolved. It is widely believed that Friedman came back to the Angels with an increased demand for bodies, since he gave up more in the Red Sox trade than originally planned.

Given the perspective only time and distance can bring, Pederson and Stripling would be nice-to-have depth, but Pederson at his best was platooned by his team and had just 2020 remaining before FA. Stripling would have strained to reach 120 IP for a team which needs a pitcher who can throw more than 120 IP in 2020. I don’t think highly of Ward at this point (appears to be a textbook AAAA player), but I have high hopes for Rengifo, and if Friedman upped the demand to include one more valuable piece from the Angels—or if Pages was taken off the table for the same return—I can understand walking away.

The history on Arte has always been that he doesn’t renegotiate a deal which is agreed to in principle. When Bloom and the Red Sox turned what seemed to be a completed trade into a PhD dissertation in Clown College, it may well be Arte lost interest and patience in equal measure.
