LA Angels Weekend News Crash: Brew Crew and New Year

It was awesome watching the Brewers and the city of Milwaukee celebrate their first World Series title. For those of us who were around in 2002 it was special and something we will always treasure. To see great fans get that experience warmed my heart. There was one more thread I found. We missed the Singing Cowboy and the Brewers missed Bob Uecker. Just barely.

The two teams in the final got there on the strength of old school baseball. Pitch well, put the ball in play, and play great defense. Those who did not watch the Fall Classic will see a 4-1 win and not realize how great 3 of those games were. The margin of victory was so slim that a single here or there for the Rays and it could have been a different story.

Only one game was a beatdown, and that was game three. That beatdown was the result of an incredible 2 out rally that pushed the game from close to laughable. FanGraphs broke down the rally in their usual epic fashion.

And now it is time to look forward. Like in 2002 this has been a long time coming and is reason for celebrate. The last season of Arte Moreno’s ownership is over and the transition to a winner can get started.

No Arte, but there is Arjun. The kid keeps mashing.

I say we raid the defending champions for some front office talent. I’ll take any or all of these guys.

Statistically, there were two huge differences between the Angels and Brewers this year. Fixing those two will determine the fate of the Angels next year.

Fixing flaws is what the off season is all about. So far, two players have been outrighted and Kyren Paris was lost to the Mets. Was not that long ago KP was a top 5 prospect in the organization, which mostly says a lot about the farm at that time.

Ah yes, the off season. One under the direction of Stan Kroenke. I will not get tired to typing that. What might that look like? I took a look at how he runs the Rams for some insights.

So I’m learning a bit about Google trends and how to publish pieces that will get some looks. Dropping that ditty on a Sunday before the Rams game worked. Now I just need to up my social media game. If you know of a college kid looking to intern, send them my way.

Seiya Suzuki is an absolute stud and it would be nice to recapture some of the Japanese fan base. But the Angels absolutely must pass on him this off season. There are a couple of low K/low key outfielders that would work perfectly, however. Unfortunately the article on them publishes an hour after this one.

There’s zero chance Nick Martinez duplicates his 2026 season. But I’d take him in a heartbeat if he can duplicate his 2024-2025 run and given his profile I think that is a reasonable expectation.

Among all this searching, Alec Bohm is by far the most logical free agent candidate for the Angels. Just don’t block Jake Munroe for more than a year or so.

And here’s a bit of a longform read for you. My second highest trending article of the week. Believe it or not, Darin Erstad is a legitimate candidate for the Angels managerial job.

And, oh my Lord, how I loved this show and song when I was a little boy.

Tried firing up an episode a few years back and it is absolutely horrible. Best left to nostalgia. Apparently a cool theme song and a dude who can’t really fly is all it took to impress preschool me.

From around baseball:

The Mets adding Mariano Duncan to their coaching staff was really cool. I’d forgotten all about him but he was a solid utility player and I like to think he learned enough tidbits and tricks along the way to make him a decent coach.

The Astros are going to interview old school GM Mike Rizzo for their GM gig. For once, the Angels owner is not the backwards thinking meddlesome one looking for a front office guy he can bulldoze.

Guys who win the Roberto Clemente Award deserve more publicity. Francisco Lindor took the crown this year.

In case you forgot, Zach Neto was the Angels nominee this year and I ran a story on that (complete with quotes from Neto) when it was announced.

And, finally, the best thing I’ve ever linked. Our friend Victor is battling prostate cancer but things are looking good for him.

Have a great weekend and link what I missed. I am attending a wedding for my Muay Thai coach tonight and am supposed to give a speech/lead a toast. My old sparring partner will be there, some guy named Rampage Jackson. I kid, he’d kill me, but I did drill with him when he was in camp to fight Shannon Briggs and have a couple of stories about putting in my mouthguard, lacing up the gloves, and throwing some punches with the legend. But the real story is congrats to Anthony and Mindy.

oh gosh.

Now we have to be bombarded with guys that haven’t been on the team for years and aren’t good?

The thing is I knew he was lousy and many CTPG members didn’t….
Kind of like right now with Nolan Schanuel at 1B, he sucks and we should just move on. BTW Sandoval never had a winning or .500 season.

What do you want? A Cookie? You could literally have your maidenhood savaged by CtPG members at this point and I wouldn’t care. No one cares that you said a thing and then time passed and now you think you were right about thing. Why on earth would you even post about that? I know I’ve asked before, but are you ten years old? Most of us figure out early in life that the guy who has to launch into “that time I was right” stories is a figure of disdain who is buried unmourned when he manages to drown in a Home Depot bucket. Not that it would help any, but you don’t even have receipts, just fuzzy memories.

Speaking of receipts, where is your IIWPM from the last 3 years? We are all waiting. Just think, if you do one this year, we will ALL be able to see how right you are years from now instead of this crap you keep trying….

With David Stearns not seen in the best light by the Mets fans and people calling for his head, if the opportunity arose, what would you think of him being the Angels guy since a lot of the Brewers organizational structure is widely credited to him setting it up?

My Opinion – NO. They started to turn it around with him, but it actually was when they sent him packing to the Mets.

My opinion is probably tainted by watching Luhnow. He would try something and if it didn’t work, he didn’t try MORE of it. He was able to change his plans and move on. Something that Stearns and Elias either didn’t learn or forgot.

“Homer Wallah”

This is Arjun’s new nickname. Share it. Use it.

Sincerely looking forward to the trans-continental mania when he makes it to Anaheim.

I hope the Halos get a haul for Neto. If somehow he stays, I hope he never bats leadoff again. Yeah, lots of hope here.

With Jo gone, Detmers is my favorite Halo. It hurts that I know he needs to be traded for the best interest of the team.

Thanks again, Mr. Joiner, for all of the information.

Too bad we couldn’t have lost Moore instead of Paris.

Alec Bohm does make a little sense for us. 2 year deal? Trade bait?

I like Nick Martinez but watching him pitch makes me violently annoyed.

I think the “best” off season we can get is getting a good FO in place. Then trading Neto and Detmers. Then hiring a manager who doesn’t suck (but will still not be able to fill out a line up card according to CtPG Guy). Extra wonder points if they trade Kuchi for a prospect or two.

Then I want that sinky new FO to go out and apply all those analytics to dumpster diving and get themselves some more trade bait.

The thing about trade bait is that we get nice bait like Soler, nobody bites and we just release the guy. The hope is that the new front office gets shinier bait or, even better, players who we don’t want to trade.

The best trade bait isn’t our signed free agents but our own developed players like Soriano or Ward

Well, it sounds like Pat Murphy will not be managing the Yankees any time soon. How dare he question that roster’s heartfelt commitment to each other and their fans?

I am NOT je june about Arjun. Sure, he’s got to cut down his swing and miss, etc. But he and Munroe, along with Raudi, Rada, Cozart etc give us some actual position prospects to watch next year. Just let em cook angels, accept maybe Rada. Let em get good, maybe see a couple of them at the end of the year….

The thing about the strikeouts was that it was not an anomaly, it’s been an ongoing organizational issue that not only was never addressed but might have been intentional.

Nice to hear the news about Victor. A young Connie Sellecca was The Greatest American Hero’s girlfriend and I remember thinking at the time “Man that girl is gorgeous”, and then she went on to do lots of other stuff. 🙂 It was a terrible show but I loved the theme song as I did for many 80’s TV shows.

This weeks NCIS episode featured the Greatest American Hero and included William Kat in a cameo at the very end.

Over Knight Rider? GAH was a good show, yes, but Knight Rider had the Hof before we even knew who the Hof was.

I started to point that out to my wife, then I remembered she’s 15 years younger than me and she would have NO IDEA who/what I was talking about.

It’s kind of funny – and I’ve said this before here – I see Brewers and still sometimes picture them in American League. (Still see Seahawks in AFC) But maybe it will help as they became, about midway through the season, the NL team I cheered for. Angels will still always have my loyalty – but for the first time since I’ve been a kid – I have had a number two team. Haven’t sought out any Brewers forums – but I’m definitely keeping an eye on them as long as Murph is there. As I said yesterday, he’s a national treasure.

I posted this on the wrong forum.

Jake Bauers gives Pat Murphy the last out ball of the World Series. “I’m so proud of you, man,” Murphy said to Bauers as they hugged, according to video posted by Spectrum News 1 Wisconsin that went viral on social media. “You’re going to be a rich f—er. Just remember when you’re on that horses— Yankees team, and you guys are all playing for yourself — just remember, say, ‘This is the way we used to do it.’ You might have all that money…”

Who wouldn’t want a manager like that????

Victor has our thoughts and prayers also, miss you, Dude! Major League Baseball is a very dumb group of men at the top as one of them is advocating to eliminate broadcasting games on radio! Can you even imagine the MLBHOF without Scully or Allen and all the other greats of the game that broadcasted on radio. How can you be out driving home from some place without Terry and Langs? In wanting to copy everything from the NFL, MLB forgot the Monday night baseball just got cremated in the TV rating. The reason foe starting on Friday night was to dodge Sunday’s slate of NFL games, well MNF is even bigger in drawing in the folks that prefer football, good call Manfraud. Happy Halloween to everyone whether in costume or not.

All I remember from you is a bunch of sewer foam and Avasail Garcia and Joc Pederson? How is Christian Moore what’s wrong? I will seriously go out and break his legs if you can explain how not having him around as a prospect makes us the Brewers next year.

I am also still waiting for your IIWPM from like three years ago. Maybe this year you show us what’s up.

This is such a misnomer on the “manufacturing runs”

The Angels had 6 guys with double digit homers

They ranked 14th in the league in sac bunts
