Kurt Suzuki Out as Angels Manager

Lots to unpack here. The obvious is that Kurt Suzuki’s time as Angels manager is up. But the real nugget is in the press release.

Kroenke is now directing new hires for the team. That is welcome news for Angels fans. And if KSE is guiding this move they are guiding all hires for the team. I still think they guided Carpino out of a job and approved of Mozeliak for his job, but that can never be proven.

For the third time in three years the Angels will have a new skipper. Who will it be? I do not think it will be Pujols.

There have been house cleanings before in professional sports, but geez this will be the Mother of them all.

Field Manager and Coaches – gone!
General Manager -gone!
Owner – gone!
Soriano, Adell, Ward, Soler, Moncada, Lowe, Rendon – gone!

Molly? Definitely will be too soon.
Big A? Definitely will be too later.
Red Unis? Step right on up!

and everybody else in the organization is TBD really except Trout.

Interim GM John Mozeliak said he won’t be the full-time GM in 2027 and that the process for finding the new GM is still in the early stages, as @JeffFletcherOCR reported. He also said his plan is to honor his contract and step aside when the new leadership is in place.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, Kurt is being offered a “special assistant” position. Which doesn’t sound like a bad move.

I completely agree on the decision to move on. Suzuki clearly had issues with the lineup construction and in game strategy.

But I will say I think Kurt is a great guy and I really enjoyed getting to know him this season. Not only was he always available for a quote or two during BP he would also be available to just chat about baseball, life, and fatherhood. He brought kids down to BP, signed, took pictures, etc.

I genuinely wish him well in his next endeavors.

Selfishly this means I need to start from scratch building a new relationship next year. Not saying I was Kurt’s bestie but by August or so he recognized me and I no longer had to introduce myself before talking to him.
