Walbert Urena had the type of start you can expect from a rookie. At times he flashed some really nice stuff, at times he could not locate his pitches. He’s young and will mix in dominant starts like the one he had last week with mediocre games like he had tonight.
Overall, he coughed up 3 runs in 5 innings. Neither great nor horrible. Giving up a bomb to the struggling Christian Vasquez was not great. But he did punch out 7 Astros.
And for a brief while he had a 2-1 lead thanks to a Denzer Guzman double that was initially ruled a home run.
Urena took the loss because he was losing 3-2 when he left after five innings. The score did not change for the rest of the game.
For real, it is frustrating when Mike Trout refuses to challenge bad strike calls. He took two consecutive pitches above the zone to K and leave the tying run at second base.
It was cool to see Fulmer and and Saucedo put up zeroes but the one that really mattered came from Luke Murphy. The kid is looking good early.
Rubber match in the series is tomorrow at 5:10.
