Angels Out Tank the Royals 7-6

What a game. Normally I start writing these in the 7th inning and the game has a theme. As of now, that theme is a seesaw.

Grayson Rodriguez got what he wanted in a new pitching coach and access to more data. It didn’t really help. He gave up 3 runs in the third inning and threw somewhere around 834 pitches doing so. But the Royals pitching is also bad, and it gave the lead right back.

A beautiful bunt by Wade Meckler loaded the bases. Seth Lugo and Mike Trout waged an epic 11 pitch battle that ended with a K. And then the contact king came to bat.

Keeping the two out rally going on his own t shirt promo night was Zach Neto. Not known for making contact, he did against Lugo and put the Angels up 4-3.

Never one to look for a shutdown inning, Kurt Suzuki put Sammy Peralta in the game in the top of the 5th inning. His ERA in AAA was closer to 20 than 10 and he gave up 2 runs before he recorded 3 outs. The Angels got back one of them in the bottom of the 5th then took the lead in the 6th.

Tyler Saucedo is the exactly the guy you need to cough up a 7th inning lead, and he did it. He gave up 1 and left a couple of baserunners for Luke Murphy. One of those scored and that pushed the Royals ahead 7-6 heading into the stretch.

Running low on scrubs, Suzuki had to keep the promising youngster on the hill and Murphy pitched a scoreless frame. The Royals 7-6 lead held as the Angels were running out of time. Somehow the Royals put up more late zeroes than the Angels and won it by that score.

7-6 Royals. We out tanked them!

All the words are hurting my brain and all that said was shit that’s already been said.

I know it’s a long article to have posted.

Locking in my final answer —
Moz as POBO, Randy Flores as GM.

The young relief corps is getting me all hot and bothered. Joyce (if he still counts) plus Natera and Murphy. Can probably add Fermin to that list too.

Someone in the Dodgers FO needs to take the fall for the Diaz and Tucker signings. I know they can shrug the cost off but still nice to see these guys fail. Tucker so overrated for the past 3-years.

I’ll call this a moral win. It wasn’t the kids that lost us the game but the 28 and 33 year old journeymen arms.

Willing to give GRod the season to work out the kinks and rust from his injury. But man, he stinks.

You got it, I’m gonna give him a kitchen pass this year. Still holding hope and much better than hanging onto Ward.

He will get there. His stuff looks legit. His command sucks.

Pitch shapes look ok to me but he just can’t locate them where they won’t get smacked around.

I feel the same way. He Ks guys. He doesn’t walk a ton. But he just throws too many pitches where the bat is gonna be.

Rengifo battled Adell tonight.
Adell 0-for-1 with a K
Rengifo 1-for-4 with 3K’s

The Halo K effect ripples outward.

Meckler has been the big, happy surprise of this season, hope he returns very soon.

Wally is the biggest surprise. Meck can be #2 though.

Dealing with a loss is OK if both teams play hard as happened tonight, but with bad umpiring in bottom of ninth it leaves a bad taste.

Foul ball HARD off his ankle. Stayed in and hustled out a potential double play and he ended up safe. He came out after reaching first.
