Angels lose game and series to Rangers

As the All Star Game approaches, the Angels desperately need the rest. Not because they earned it or whatever, but because this team needs a restart in any way possible. After finally breaking their 7 game losing streak, the Angels went right back to their losing ways, ways we have become way too comfortable with.

Reid Detmers was a feel good story, a long time ago. Now, he, like pretty much everyone else on this team, is reminding the fans to stop hoping for anything good as long as Arte Moreno is the owner. As such it is no surprise that he went 4 innings giving up 5 runs on 7 hits striking out 6 and walking 1. Three home runs. Ow.

But hey, 6k! That’s all that matters right?

But the real problem of the team has been the offense. Besides yesterday, the team has had a hard time scoring runs at all. So much so that I have lost track of how many games the Angels have scored 2 or fewer. Angels looked that bad for the first 6 innings…

Highlighted Recap

Right away things went south. Texas hit a home run in the first.

1-0 Rangers

And scored another on a single in the same inning.

2-0 Texas

But hey, at least the Angels scored in the third!

3-1 Texas

Only to allow 2 more in the bottom of the inning.

4-1 Texas

And a 3rd home run allowed by Detmers in the 4th.

5-1 Texas

Asking the bullpen to come in for the 5th is a bad sign. But hey, it was ONLY 5-1, surely if it was kept close then the offense can –

6-1 Texas

But hey, that was in the 6th. Suter gave that up. And besides the Angels scored again anyway…

MECKLER WOOOOO

And Nolan drove in 2 more. Maybe this WAS a Ballgame after all.

6-4 Texas

And Soler drove in another!

6-5 Texas

And Adell tied it up! IT IS A TIED GAME!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

Bottom 7 and now both bullpens are in. Tied at 6, who was gonna win it?

No score in the 8th. Or the top of the 9th. 6-6 and the Rangers have the chance to walk it off. And they did. Angels lose the game and the series. But hey it was close! (Coping hard)

Upcoming

One last series before the All Star break. 3 At the Twins and then Mike Trout will go to Philly for the All Star Game.

Patrick Sandoval, released in 2024 with a UCL tear, made his long awaiting debut for the Red Sox tonight. Might recall AM/PM did not want to tender him his $6M during his rehab so they cut him. I’ll write it off as a team building exercise.

Have we reached the absolute bottom yet? How would we know? Does anyone miss Luis Rengifo?

I’m really hoping that this year your wish comes true but I’m not holding my breath.

I was at dinner, thus not commenting but of course I was checking the score every once in awhile. Wow!! (I thought) they tied it! But the next time I checked… we’d been Yates-ified

Once again, the Angels lead mlb in batters striking out, nearly 900 strikeouts this season so far. This is an ongoing calamity. Yet the decision to keep using players with high k percentages continues. It is truly baffling what is going on with this organization.

I’m afraid with this roster, the pickings are slim. But having strikeout prone players like Neto, Trout and Soler occupying three of four top of batting order is a very bad idea.

Mind-numbing what the management of this team is doing. Literally two of the worst players in baseball, Lowe and Soler, both on offense and defense, continue to not only be starters, but on the roster. Further, the insistence of using Yates as a closer is ridiculous.

I’d rather have Walton back. At least he can hit RH pitching, unlike Lowe.

Soler can’t hold Walton’s jock strap. Let that sink in

If they sit Guzman when Moncada is ready, I’ll probably short a fuse.

Unfortunately that is going to happen.

Agree. Lowe is a bad defensive player and woeful hitter. Soler is the same. It is beyond weird what is going on here.

A smart org would release Lowe, Soler, Yates and others now. There is zero reason to play these dudes when we’re a 100 games under .500. Utterly ridiculous.

Call up Dana & Christian Moore and play them the entire 2nd half.

They may actually do that. Thing is, some of the kids I’d really like to see are not exactly lighting the MiLB on fire. No point in bringing them up so they can get their shit pushed in by real MLB players day after day for no good reason.

Soler is in there to ignite a home run barrage and jack up trade interest. Just 3-more weeks. Note: after his hot spring training, many folks on this site were calling for comeback player of the year award.
