After the fight last night, tensions were slightly higher for this afternoon game at the Big A. Both players were suspended, but of course they would appeal, which meant Soler could still play today. 7 games is a bit much, not that it will change much for the Brave’s pitcher as a SP will really only lose 1 start either way.
But that means that these games with Soler still in the lineup had to count, and, well, today was not a good day for making said game count. Detmers went 4 and a third, giving up 6 runs (5 earned) on 5 hits, striking out 4, and walking 2. It was going decently, until the 3rd when things just escalated.
The offense didn’t help, as besides a Soler bomb, the only other run was a bases loaded walk by Logan that had to be challenged. It wasn’t pleasing to watch at all.
Highlighted Recap
Braves scored first on a sac fly in the first
And they also got one in the 2nd on a double
But Soler stayed hot against Atlanta and hit a home run in the 2nd
Which led to Grant Holmes losing control and walking Logan in with the bases loaded after a review
Despite a bases loaded no outs situation, the Angels did not score again, as their incompetency at the plate was laughable.
It was… ugly from here on out, as the Braves would score 6 unanswered runs, which included some help from bad defense like throwing a ball away
And it wasn’t even without injury as Logan got smacked with a foul ball behind the plate.
The Angels even got shut down by Jose Suarez. Yes. THAT Jose Suarez. It was embarrassing. But hey, at least the Angels beat Sale on Monday, and had a fight yesterday. Affordability and entertainment or something.
Angels lose the game and the series. Pathetic.
Upcoming
Day off tomorrow, and then it is off to Cincinnati and then the Yankees. Could sure use Soler in those games…
Is Rendon still on the roster I think? Can we bring him back?
Weekly Stock Up / Stock Down:
UP = Soriano, Adell and Soler
DOWN = Trout, Neto, Kikuchi & Detmers
Lowe & Moncada aren’t even worth a down rating.
Are we on the road to .400?
I really am dying to hear Neto’s explantion of why he tried to bunt not once but TWICE when the bases were loaded and he’s our best hitter for SLG.
Missed the afternoon affair, did he really try to bunt with the bases loaded? Suzuki putting on safety squeezes? Something is f-d up.
BOTG for me. Killed the inning and momentum.
Yes. That was where the game was decided.
Angels always sink to the occasion. A listless team. Just like it ever was.
Six runs in three games is not gonna win too many MLB games.
Nothing to see here, the team is ultimately performing as expected. Six wins after thirteen games is actually pretty good for this collection of misfits. I’m sure Perry is very happy….
First time I went to a game in probably like 3 or 4 years. I don’t think I’ll go again in another 3 or 4 years. My family all had the same spring break so we thought it’d be fun to do. Nice spending time together but the game sucked.
Angels have a chance to do some damage with the bases loaded and 1 out and our best hitter tries to bunt not once but twice. First of all they have to great defenders on the corners, 2nd of all there is a force at any base so it actually has to be a pretty good bunt to not just have them get the force at home, third, you are our best hitter, we need a big hit there.
Then I don’t need to name names but there are a few guys that are just so so so so bad. Flailing away and having the worst abs I’ve seen in awhile. Like does Perry actually watch these players before he acquires them? I will say, I did see multiple guys in the bullpen go to the mound and purposefully practiced going towards the plate. Never seen that before in 40+ years of going to games.
But yea this team is cooked. Get a haul for Soriano and hope some of the Angels minor league pitchers pan out because this offense is atrocious.
I get the disappointment…. I usually feel this way when I go to games in person and the Angels deliver a stinker. But try not to overreact. Even if we turn out to only be a 70 win team we still should NOT trade Soriano. He is young and a foundational piece of our future. Probably the hardest thing to find or develop is a true Ace. He’s only 27 yrs old and he just may be that guy. Getting a “haul” means nothing if in that haul you don’ t get another Soriano.
So, are you saying that our 3 rd baseman, Moncada, and his .083 BA is not very good?
We are wasting Moncada’s prime! Seriously, DFA this bum
Wait, you’re saying an OPS+ of 35 is “not good”? 🤣
LMAOOO 😂😂😂. At least he’s a good defender, right?
.083 BA is stellar offense from 3rd base.
Ah well. Sometimes I close my eyes and go to a reality in the multiverse where Detmers didn’t get rushed to the majors and doesn’t become a total head case. It’s kind of mind-boggling that we haven’t been able to develop any starting pitching for 10+ years. I thought a broken clock was right twice a day??? Can’t wait for Bremner to get rushed up in June. Gonna be so rad.
day off tomorrow sounds like a good idea
Reid going backwards. It was only a matter of time. I still think he goes back to the pen by July.
That 2020 draft was ugly for us. Right after we took Detmers, Crochet was selected. Our next pick Calabrese.
At least we know Detmers can be effective in the bullpen…..
Senator, name any Minasian draft that wasn’t ugly.
The correct response is:
I had high hopes when I picked him for my fantasy team. I’m gonna drop him for Janson Junk (how’s that for ironic.)
😲 He is getting dropped for Janson Junk? 🤣 Pick him back up for your bullpen when he gets assigned there.
