Baseball is a funny game and it has a special way of bringing you back down to Earth. After over a week of absolutely mashing the ball, the Angels offense was due for a dud. And it came tonight.
8 wins in a row were fun but when the team collectively slugs over .500 for 8 games just enjoy those 8 games. A 9th isn’t guaranteed or even likely.
Cal Quantrill was the beneficiary of the Angels offense running out of magic bullets and shooting blanks. He only lasted 3 and a 1/3rd but got a ton of soft contact.
Cy Quantrill left with a 1-0 lead that was erased on a Taylor Ward sacrifice fly to punch in Neto. During a win streak that’s a hit somehow, but tonight it was a flyout.
Janson Junk started the 5th inning and made continued to make it look easy for two innings . He was horrid as an Angel but put up really nice numbers in AAA this year. Hopefully Junk is somewhat decent now and this loss looks a little better in hindsight.
Junk got into a little trouble in the bottom of the 7th, allowing runners on first and second with only one out. Jo Adell absolutely ripped a ball down the line, right into the glove of the third baseman who relayed to second base for a quick double play.
It was that kind of night.
Probably the most notable development in the game was Caden Dana looking pretty bad, walking three in a long 7th inning and giving up a 3 run bomb. The score was 3-1 Miami when Dana entered and 6-1 as it headed to the 7th inning stretch. The kid rebounded nicely in the 8th but the damage was done.
Enjoy the fact there were 8 and let’s hope they start another win streak tomorrow.
Maybe Eder can be an inning Eater?

Neto and Logan being rested on the same day. Real Mensa move, Washington.
This convinces me Wash is truly an idiot. I mean, I get having to rest guys, but it would have been very easy to rest O’Hoppe last night and then play him today with Neto out.
Now it is just like conceding the game, and series too I might add…
Don’t forget, this team is an injury waiting to happen. Hoping neither is hurt should probably be our #1 concern
-trAdition
mmmm… I doubt it. We likely would have heard something if either were injured. This is a day game and the odds are that it is a normal rest day, which Neto definitely needs. O’Hoppe has been rested fairly well up to this point, which I give the Angels brass credit for… It just seems like we are so far behind the competition when it comes to strategy and preparation… It seems like these decisions are made on the fly..
Now, if it comes out that O’Hoppe does have an injury of some sort that was not made public, then I of course reserve the right to withdraw this critique.
But this team is very sketchy when it comes to providing info about injuries, another thing I dislike.
Not that any of need a reminder, he was fine, day to day… this has been the trend with him, for almost all of his past injuries over the last 5 years. And most injuries with them aren’t accurate with there initial diagnosis as far as severity and timeline for recovery. The Dodgers don’t do this, we all follow them. They’re either clueless or they’re doing it on purpose or they just don’t care about giving injury information

after the all-star break. No….September….no, ST.
I’m hoping the organization is trending in an upward direction, seems to be slowly…. but one thing that hasn’t changed, is there inability or willingness to diagnose, rehab, and convey to its fanbase the seriousness is f’ing injuries. It’s obviously done on purpose. It’s not the norm.
It infuriates me. It’s hard to throw myself back into us even thinking about winning when they do stuff like this.
Yeah, this is a real head-scratcher. As was pitching Dana last night in a close game (3-1 Marlins lead). We could have used Strickland for one and then Brogdon, and even that would have been better than Dana.
I agree. Supposedly we’re trying to develop him into an ace and he gets mop up duty. Another head scratcher.
Last night was not mop of duty — it was a close and winnable game. AsTT pointed out he is not ready for big spots or tight games. He has alot of work to do. Let’s not let him get that work in the Show where it costs us games/wins.
Maybe Washington subscribes to the “You can’t chase wins every night” philosophy.
I said last night that I would never complain about Wash again, but here we are…

Obvious weaknesses:
Middle inning relief corp.
Little production from RF, CF and 2b.
Starting pitching lack of inning eaters.
Losing a game isn’t “terrible”. Getting shut down by Janson Junk is.
I don’t mind the loss as long as the Angels take the series. Pitchers definitely need to step up. Way too many base runners.
Win 2 of 3…that’s all we ask.
Unfortunately that may be asking too much.
Wash chose today to rest BOTH Neto and O’Hoppe. And to top it off Tim Anderson is batting lead-off !
Automatic loss. Angels lose series.
I feel bad for Pineapple that he goes to this game with neither Neto or O’Hoppe playing and not enough offense to make up for the runs that Hendricks is sure to surrender.
They do need some rest, been a long stretch, and I have no idea the best way to go about giving it to them…..but agreed, probably an L.
You rest one today and the other COULD HAVE been rested yesterday…it doesn’t take a genius to figure this stuff out.
Signs do point to the Angels losing, but Miami is due for low run support. Angels did only score just 2 runs yesterday so they got their low score game out the way. Baseball is sometimes like that so hopefully it is true today.
you must have forgotten how bad Miami is. I think we’ll win today as Hendricks pitches well against a bad team….or at least well enough
I would like Soriano to step up against bad teams. We need a ace and he is our best shot at that for now.
5/24 Top Prospect Performance: Chris Cortez.

The boy Cortez is cooking!
That was an awesome 8-game win streak! Not being able to knock around Quantrill really doomed us—serious shoutout to the Marlins’ manager for going to his bullpen early.
Time to start a new streak.
@ErSTAN, hit me up later! If anyone else wants to meet at the game, I’ll be in section 524.
Nice! We’re in 518! Washing these emotionally draining children now. Let’s get this series!
We outside and HIGH Mr. Pina. Chilling in the 518 shade with some lemon-aid.

Amazing song. Found my way into 521.
I’ll come say hi! What are ya wearing? Fyi, I’ll be the white dude in a pink hoodie and Angels hat
I will. I’m due for a $17 tip-up. I’ll swing by during Calling All Angels—I hate that song. I’m the white boy in a sea of other whites. A needle in a stack of needles. The wife’s wearing yellow and black flannel
😂. Forsure. I’m in the 2nd to last row in 521
Sorry, Pineapple.
Looks like you are gonna be seeing a loss….. check out the Angels lineup:
MLB Gameday: Marlins at Angels, Probable Pitchers, Lineups, and more
Goonies never say die ☠️
Real quiet around here…
For a team that has/had Trout, Pujols, Hamilton, Ohtani, Glaus, GA, Salmon, Vlad… who would have thought that the XBH franchise record owner would be one Taylor Ward, a catcher turned OF?! One whose drafting prompted a lot of thousand ires and fires toward Dipoto?! Congrats Taylor!
I don’t follow the farm much, but is it time to worry about Caden Dana?! His cup of coffee last year wasn’t very impressive either.
Glad TT said it last night because I was thinking it: Caden Dana is not ready for MLB.
I know we’re anxious, but he only recently turned 21.
I said he is not READY. That does not mean he will never be ready. It means he is not ready right now.
Junk owned us. A humiliating way to lose.
One man’s trash…
Soriano’s command was bad. Marlins were fed up amd punchy. Let’s score a million billion runs for Hendricks tomorrow.
Live by the solo home run(s) die by the (lack of) solo home run(s)
Ugly loss, but can’t win ’em all.
Even #1 LSU and #4 Oregon lost in tournament play today. Tennessee got slaughtered 10-0, and looks like Irvine is going to get taken out by Cal Poly.
Lots of big dogs going down on upstart Saturday.
Good things: Ward with another game with an extra base hit. Dana’s 8th inning.
Bad things: Sori couldn’t put them away when he had 2 outs. Dana’s 7th inning and the 9th was iffy, too.
😂😂😂
