First full weekend of farm action has been tough sledding thus far.

Klassen and Vargas shelled, Urena and Gordon were wild in short stints. Moore, Lugo and Rada struggling to hit.

No appearances by Jowsa yet – he’s probably tagged for Arizona mid season.

We’ll see what Aldegheri and Cortez manage today.

Yikes! Guzman 6 Ks in 8 ABs and Fontenelle 6 Ks in 7 ABs.

But Guzman also hit a the walk off 3 run HR in the bottom of the ninth. After staking the Lookouts to a 6-0 lead, our Trashers battled back to win 8-6 . It’s as a team effort . Christian Moore & Nelson Rada both had rbi singles and Moore missed a HR by a few feet in an earlier at bat so there’s definitely encouraging signs.

Like command with Urena, I’m not evaluating Guzman on game power – he’s already shown he has that, which is why he’s rated as high as he is among Angels prospects. But it’s his swing decisions and chase rate that are holding him back, so occasional HRs are entirely overshadowed by the 6Ks in 8PAs. (And I’m higher on Guzman than most.)

Actually Urena’s start was not that bad. I wouldn’t say he was “shelled” He was wild with 3 walks and a HBP and his defense ( including himself) let him down with 2 big errors and questionable defense but he did have 5 strikeouts and seemed to calm down after a wild first inning. Of course by that time he had thrown almost 70 pitches. I was more concerned with Klassen & Vargas performances they didnt seem to fooling anyone.

Didn’t say Urena was shelled – I said he was wild in a short stint. He was that – and control and better efficiency is what he needs to show progress on.

He has bat missing stuff, so I don’t really evaluate his progress on whether he can rack up the Ks, but whether he can command the zone and make it into the sixth inning. He’s averaged 6 BB/9 since arriving, and often has no clue where his FB is going – in A+ last year, he’d alternate very promising outings with ones where he’d walk a batter per inning. If he wants to be more than an up and down reliever, he needs to show more of the former, and greater consistency.

Yes, control seems to be an issue. Perry will promote him soon.

Ovi just got 895 about 15 minutes ago; beautiful wrist shot from the left flank on a power play …. Ceremony was great too.

Yep. That is when I first became a fan. I haven’t followed as closely the last decade or so… As a teenager I was a big Kings fan and went to alot of games.

Did you see that Canning has a nice, low ERA with the Mets? Also, Suarez with the Braves has a 2.08 ERA as a reliever. Humorous.

Small sample size but would have preferred Canning over a .non-versatile 240 Ave (best case)

Yeah, Canning has a 2.79 ERA and has given up only three runs total over two starts and 9.2 innings..

The big question is would he have those same numbers if he were with us?

Hard to say with the Angels defense but has some good swing and miss stuff to negate Angels shortcomings. Most importantly to me, 2024 was his first year he made it through a year without setbacks. 170 innings pitched and 31 starts. He should have stayed at in favor of Tyler Anderson.

I probably would have done that as well. Both had one year left I believe.

But of course Griff had to get pulled after only 4 innings in his last start after amassing 89 pitches .

I’ll take a quality start any day over that

That was a big issue last year for Him and Sandoval, Too many pitches, 100 through 5 almost every time.

Did he tear his UCL, never did see a report. Local product, was hoping to see him come back after McClintock is dropped.

I’m not as familiar with MLB rules but I know in the NFL you cannot do this.

You are allowed to reach an injury settlement and if they agree they can be released, but you are on the hook if they get hurt while playing for you.

Regardless, that’s a bad look. He was my favorite reliever on the farm too so I was bummed he got hurt.

Perry’s a bit wormy and seems like he wanted to let him go before any official announcement on the extent of the concerning injury. Obviously, he has inside info.

1st 4 hitters in our line up

.212
.241
.172
.207
Next 4
.320
.290
.429
.250

It was nice to the 1st 4 at least hit some HRs. I’m a little concerned about Trout being a 3 true outcome player, which is still valuable but not vintage Trout.

1st 4 hitters in our line up from last night
Ward 212/250/242/492
Rengifo 241/313/414/726
Trout. 172/278/517/795
Soler. 207/294/345/639
Next 4
O’Hoppe 320/346/800/1.146
Schanuel 290/353/387/740
Paris. 429/556/786/1.341
Adell. 250/318/300/618

It’s only been a week.

Based on their on base% they all seem to be seeing the ball fine, hits should start falling soon.

Except Ward, he’s too streaky to predict.

Roy Hobbs

That’s why I prefer him around 6th. I might put Paris at 1 and put Ward between O’Hoppe and Schanuel. That gives the line up a lot of balance and Schanuel seems to hit better down in the line up. O’Hoppe, Ward, Schanuel and Adell is a very sold second half. When Neto comes back, we could hit him 3rd and push everyone down one slot. That’s a nice deep line up.

If Paris has discovered how to hit consistently (that’s a big if when considering his scouting report grades him at 30 for his hit tool) when combined with the 12% MiLB walk rate, he could be a solid solid lead off for this season.

I would put Schanuel in the 2 spot for his ability to hit the ball all over. Keep Trout & Soler together followed by Neto, O’hoppe, Ward, Adell, Rengifo.

Roy Hobbs

That works. I agree Paris is still an unknown. Neto doesn’t walk a lot, which is his big weakness so far and both Trout and Soler have historically gotten on base more often so that makes sense.

FungoAle

I like that approach and agree that Paris is still a big “IF” Nice story thus far but call me in July.

Was definitely lit. DJ plays just the first part of Snoop and Dre’s The Next Episode. Whole crowd proceeds to rap the next few bars after it shuts off lol. Had to remember where the hell I was. Few minutes later Same thing with Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing.. Followed by another Halo Tank shot to dead center. Solid night. Only gripe was can beers were far too not ice cold enough. I Need my hand in jeopardy of frost bite when I grip that thing.
