23 years after 9/11, we are getting players who weren’t even born yet. Not Jack Kochanowicz, he was less than a year old though. And he went 5 and 2/3 innings, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits, striking out 3 and walking 1. Not bad, not good either.
No, what really was bad was how Burke came in and allowed 2 runs in his 1 inning. Well, he was charged for them, Strickland gave them up on an Almost Grand Slam. SP one day, bullpen the next, both can’t be good at the same time.
At least the young hitters hit well. These young, post 9/11 Angels. Like Nolan, born in 2002. Slightly older than the Angels World Series. Only slightly. Talk about making people feel old. College seniors weren’t alive for 9/11 and soon enough, having players who even remembered it will become a rare sight.
Highlighted Recap
Angels scored first in the first with a Ward solo shot
But that was responded with immediately with a Twins one of their own.
But Nolan hit his 13th of the year in the 3rd to get the lead back!
And it was lost in the 4th
And it got worse
But the Angels hung in there, with Jordyn Adams hitting his first home run ever in the 6th
Alas, in the 7th, Burke loaded them up, and Strickland allowed an almost Grand Slam that ended up ONLY being a double.
Could have been worse. Down 3 was possible to mount a comeback in a way down 5 was less likely, but I would have preferred being down 1.
Not that this team seemed to be capable of doing anything but hit solo shots. That is, until 2 outs in the 9th when Nolan drove in a run on a single!
It wasn’t enough though.
Angels lose 6-4
Upcoming
No game tomorrow. Next series is vs Houston at home this weekend. Ugh.
Time for a change and to go young instead of old and tired. The Twins are 10 games over .500 and Washington backers got what you deserved.
2020 Manager of the Year
💪 💪 💪 👈
Without Wash we’d have 45 wins, a scientifically proven fact
We all know who made the decision to hire Washington and it wasn’t Perry!!!
The season is winding down.
I think we are at where most of the people on the board kind of felt we would end up.
I like some of the young players, though.
That’s our silver lining.
I really like this kid, Adams.
He’s got all of the tools to be an exciting, impactful player.
I look at him and see a better version of Gary Pettis, or a Devon White.
I hope he makes the most of his remaining chances this year.
It would be great to see him shine….
Been awhile since commenting but always lurking.
Just wanted to say now that we have been eliminated…what a pathetic group of upper management and ownership. To have no playoffs and no winning record since 2014 is nothing short of complete ineptitude, care, or both.
What is worse is the prospect system has been bottom tier for the majority of time. The org tries to excite the fan base by calling up kids like Schanuel and Neto like they are the new shiny toys. Dana, Kocha, the Italian, and Moore are next. And you know what…most of them aren’t half bad! Sometimes even great for a few weeks! Problem is all of these guys will be penciled in the starting lineup next year and relied on because our GM doesn’t know how to acquire starting pitching, competent bullpen pieces, or solid roster talent. Good teams don’t ride and die by their prospects out of necessity, but for us, it’s a rite of passage.
This team is an ace, #2, 3 bullpen arms, 3B, RF (sorry, not counting Adell), maybe LF if Ward gets traded, and 2 bench pieces away from even being a respectable club. Might as well strip it all down and rebuild. At least it will give the fanbase a sense of direction that has been missing since they traded for all those guys last TDL just to waive them a month later.
FU training staff for somehow killing Trout this year. (How does he re-tear or discover a new tear in his knee after playing just 2 innings? I’ve torn both of my meniscuses so I know how the process works and I don’t believe that for a second…This doesn’t get talked about enough. Utter incompetence)
FU Perry for not having a clue on how to build a bullpen, sign Quality FAs, or put together a winning team. What good are you for besides drafting and rushing near mlb ready players?
And Fuck You Arte for everything that has your stench on this ball club, including those stanky helmet nachos, over greased hot tenders, cardboard Oggie’s Pizza, and microwave hot dogs. At least give us something good to eat while we watch our team suffer. We deserve better.
September
Other than that things are pretty good. Sounds like It’s good that you took a break. It’s just a sports team. Better to be happy than frustrated.
Life in general is good. Got a raise, hosting a bachelor party as best man this weekend, fantasy football and irl football starting up, hockey around the corner. Plenty of good things around life.
Baseball has always been my favorite sport growing up and Angels my team. But man…these guys have really killed my enthusiasm and passion for it over the last few years. I’ve been tuning these guys out since July…usually they make it to August before I say peace. Even though we got swept in 14, it was an amazing feeling to be relevant for a few games and have false hope to that we were close to glory.
These last few years have just been pathetic. Does ownership not care that the Angels are a laughing matter throughout the league? When everyone, even your rivals, pity your former superstar, that should be your wake up call. But Arte is probably more concerned about strong arming the city for more money and threatening them with the expiring stadium deal.
I just want us to be relevant again, that doesn’t seem like too much to ask.
It’s how a team becomes relevant that matters. Look at Baltimore. The definition of irrelevance until they became relevant.
While it’s a bit harder today with the current draft rules, the more the team can be patient and build the foundation slowly with young players, the more the chance of long term success.
It’s important to have a longer term perspective and be willing to be patient. Hopefully the base is being built and will begin to pay dividends in a few years. Until then, be patient young Jedi.
Having decent food at the Big A would take some of the sting away.
But, you can’t treat a terminal illness with hot dogs…!
Good things from today’s game:
Kavada was 2-3 with a walk and is now up to .207
Schanuel was 3-4 with a homer
Adams was 2-4 with a homer
We were just completely eliminated from the playoffs…magic number was 1.
that’s what I thought. I saw earlier today that we were already out but, if so, it would be on tie-breakers (if that exists). But now it’s for sure, both division and wild card.
They were eliminated in early June, which technically is an upgrade from last year when they were eliminated in May.
