Jose Soriano got the chance to start and he looked electric. Electric in the sense that it was fascinating and terrifying at the same time. His stuff looked great, but his command did not. Like a jagged line, his pitches were all over the place. All in all, he went 4 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits, striking out 6 and walking none. Not the most ideal first start, but it could have been worse.
Unfortunately, the Angels bats couldn’t capitalize on the opposing pitcher’s bad pitching. Like Soriano, he also had trouble with command, even walking the bases loaded. Yet somehow, he went through 4 and a third only allowing 1. Blowing golden opportunities, that’s Angels baseball.
That’s a Series Loss and it stings since it could have very well gone the other way.
Highlighted Recap
Soriano blew it with a wild pitch in the first. That was a bit unfair, as Logan could have maybe kept that from getting by him.
A sac fly makes it worse.
solo shot in the 2nd makes it a big 4-0 hole for the Angels early.
But the Angels do score, getting their first in the 4th with a Neto RBI single.
Things get closer in the 6th when Jo Adell hits a home run!
With 1 on in the 8th, there was a chance to tie the gam-WHAT ARE YOU DOING JO!?
Angels lose 4-2.
Upcoming
No game tomorrow, but guess who the Angels face this weekend? Yes, the Red Sox. AGAIN. At least it will be over with soon.
Ok, now tell me how you don’t believe the feds either…

All part of falling on the sword for Ohtani
😂
The danger of believing in single stories…. Ménage a toris for me, good! For you, shame!! Gamble for me, good! For you, bhhhaaaad! Unicorn horn falleth off, I don’t see I’ll super glue it back on!
#FREEIPPEI April 27th!!
Is a Ménage a tori a Ménage a trois with Tori as the third?
And the feds are just playing along. That MLB deep state.
Ohtani lost me when he said he knew nothing about it in March while in Korea when ESPN knew about the money transfers 2-3 months earlier. I read where CBS is in contact with Ippei’s reps for a up and coming TV mystery series remake, The Fall Guy.
#FreeIppei
I have a hard time believing anything that says that it is 100% on Ippei. Neither Ippei nor Oswald acted alone.
I mean, if you refuse to believe sourcing from some of the biggest publications in the country idk what to tell you.
I guess if you try hard enough you can find a conspiracy under any rock. God knows it’s en vogue to go against the narrative these days. People like feeling like they see the truth while everyone else just mindlessly believes.
Believe what you will, just sharing the reporting that cites multiple sources.
I rarely believe the feds, but it’s not because of this.
If it doesn’t come from homeland security, I just don’t believe it!
Trust the feds is … something.
It’s funny to me that the same users who will argue until they are blue in the face that we should sign Bauer because he was cleared, are the same ones that refuse to believe it when it’s Ohtani being cleared.
They’d have me believe the authorites in one case, but not the other.
Quite curious.
When the video drops of ippei with a shit eating grin stuffing a duffle bag full of cash while ohtani is sound asleep, I’ll gladly change my stance.
Does the bag say ACME on the side? 😂
There are millions of reasons for zipper to fall on the sword. MLB and the Dodgers are not going to let their golden child get any bad press if they can help it Too much money involved for Shohei’s perceived perfectness to be discredited by natural human failings. Remember nobody is perfect and that is okay. What is not ok is letting your friend take the fall so the lie can continue so MLB and the Dodgers can make their Asian money.
What I find funny is the idea that the feds just go along with it.
You’re one of the few people here who always gave Shohei the benefit of the doubt, despite being put down by almost everyone else. Maybe men (I assume) are more susceptible to conspiracy theories. Anyway, much less of a fan of the Angels now. I sympathize with you (and Trout) in your loyalty.
I think a lot of people here are more hurt over him leaving than they’d care to admit. And believing he is a villain now is easier on their minds.
I think we just enjoy seeing the Dodgers squirming for once.

@SamBlum
It’s pretty hard to get Mike Trout out right now.
He’s on a 12-for-33 stretch that includes 5 homers and 5 walks, as well. Perhaps most notable, he has just 3 strikeouts in his last 39 plate appearances.
Maybe he really relishes being THE MAN again.
Maybe he was always the Man, he was just hurt. This is Trout without a freak calf injury, or a hurt hamete bone.
Nice day at the stadium, what a horrid way to start the game, instant buzz kill. Sano batting 5th hurt, guy is so washed. We need Drury to hit. Continuous problem to hit with men on really hurt a winnable game today. We’ll see what happens in Boston but I’m concerned since we showed last week we can’t hit any of their starting pitchers while they blast HRs off almost all of ours.
Just saw the highlights. I don’t think Angel stadium has been that empty since the days of Von Hayes and Damion Easley.
Since the days of Luis Polonia’s Jheri curl roaming the outfield and the football press box in the upper level third base upper deck blocking the view of that one seat in the corner.
I think it has been said by someone on here but I’d be happy with a .500 record deep in the month of July.
I would as will but I don’t see that happening.
Come on Roy Hobbs, they said that about the Knights too.
It wasn’t a win, but I did have fun today at the game. I didn’t like being right that Soriano was going to be bad. Moore, Adell, Trout and Estevez were solid. I will probably be going to more games this year than the last five combined.
A mid-week day game is Nirvana on so many levels.
On the flip side of you in 322 today. We had fun!
I was in in 331. Such a great day for baseball.
A few foul balls landed your way!! We’ll be back 4/24, maybe 26th and 27th (CtPG rise up!!). Nothing beats a day/night at the Big A. We enjoy trying to find it on the 22 on our way in, getting a treat (sundae helmet, cotton candy, etc) and just having fun. JoJo (DJ) is right there and played 3 of our song requests!
After that shaky (and extremely flukey) 1st inning, Soriano looked good.
Adell looked good. Rengifo had some awesome ABs. Bullpen looked good.
A lot of positives, and most importantly this is the best baseball Trout has played in years.
10 games in 10 straight days on the road — @ BOS, TB, CIN will be an indicator to evaluate how serious we will be this season. Anything over .500 deserves a moderate celebration.
Adell looked mixed. Some terrible at bats and a dumb base running gaffe to go with a solid single and an Oppo Jack. He should play more, for sure.
The SB gaffe was pretty funny lol. The natural abilities he has are simply too electric to keep benched.
Not that Jo *deserves* anything, but 186 games over 5 years isn’t necessarily fair to his development.
I fall somewhere between your high ceiling optimism and his basement level detractors. The only way to find out is to see him get at a minimum of 400 AB’s over the course of this season. Who is “blocking” Hicks? Sano? GTFOH
You and I will always disagree on Rengifo. He gives me great pain. Soriano was horrible. You and I must have watched a different game.
Let me guess, David Fletcher stan?
I was a Fletcher fan because he played solid defense. Rengifo is obviously a better hitter, but if he can up his defense, you won’t hear negative comments from me again.
Sans the 1st inning, Soriano was good.
I see how Rengifo can frustrate you but stats don’t lie — he’s good !
Like a Erick Aybar knock-off, not quite as good
And yet he’s a better baseball player than half our squad. Hating on Rengifo is so tired when the issue is on the franchise failing to draft-develop better players.
Back when the Halos picked him up, he was an Fangraphs sleeper selection along with fellow Angel, Fletcher. Looks like Luis outlasted him. Agree, I am hoping he ends up playing full time. Thinking the Wash-effect will raise his level of focus.
I liked the Soriano appearance after that inning, love that life on his pitches. I’m digging it.
😆

The teams need to start sending game video to the commissioner’s office.
We always find our way to .500, don’t we?
Tampa is consistently good. We are “this close” to being solid ourselves.
I agree that we have some good pieces, but we are incomplete. We need two good starting pitchers and some multi-inning relief in the bull pen. We need a run producing 1B, a real 2B, a run producing 3B, and a solid Right Fielder. It’s possible that some of those holes can be filled by players currently on the roster, but not all. I am not a fan of Sano or Hicks taking playing time away from Moniak, Adell, or Rengifo. I would prefer a Moniak/Adell platoon in right and Renjifo and Drury covering 2B and DH with our current roster. Hicks and Sano can play once a week.
It’s amazing to think what a DH and a starter could have done for this team.
Until the last month of the season, then they climb up 2 feet, and drop down 3 feet.
Yep. We’ll be full of hope at the deadline and then be truly buttercupped.
if we’re lucky
Hoping to be there again all time-wise. I think we were above it briefly in the Scioscia years
Being 6-6/.500 after 4 series with 2023 playoff contenders – I say it’s much more than what I expected from this team. I honestly expected 2-10 (swept by Baltimore and Rays, and one win each from the Miami and Sox series).
Oh, and Adell hit a HR today.
So….silver linings?
Definitely silver linings.
I mean they are really 3-6 against good teams.
And 3-0 against a bad team that was playing very poorly.
So? I don’t see anything wrong with that. I mean, weren’t there basically zero expectations of this team doing anything good anyway?!
Did people suddenly have playoff aspirations????
Again, so what though? They beat a team they were supposed to beat. Isn’t that a good thing?
If this team loses to teams better than they are, but they beat the teams worse than them, that’s really an 81-81 record right there, .500, or maybe 80-82, 79-83, which is where a lot of people expected them anyway (putting aside the, IMO, extreme predictions they will end up with <70 wins.)
Rational take. Thanks.
Imagine – if the Halos were undefeated all these same teams would all of a sudden be all bad teams. They’re only good because they beat us and only suck because we beat them. Logics is coo!
Not quite. They beat us because they are good. Their not good because they beat us. All three of those teams will finish the season 15-20 games better than us.
I mean sure. But realistically they aren’t going to always sweep bad teams. And they will be swept by some good teams. And I really don’t think the RedSox and Rays are elite.
4-6 is is what I expect out of every 10 games (approximately).
What I have seen from the first 12 games does not alter my opinion that this is a 68 win team.
I agree. There are some players who are currently exceeding my expectations like Trout, Ward, O’Hoppe, Detmers, and Anderson. At the same time, there are some who are failing to meet expectations, in some cases by a lot. That’s the rub, we kind of need everyone meeting and exceeding for us to have the team we hope for. Just having everyone’s average performance on this team is not enough because we are deficient in talent. Also, the performances of the guys who are exceeding are not sustainable.
Except it’s not 81-81 because there are not very many teams that are worse than us. Most are at least equal or better but generally as Banned said, it’s a rational take and I agree with your thinking. I just don’t think that 65-70 wins is extreme. There aren’t many Marlins. Right now, our starting pitching and hitting are not consistent enough to play .500 across 162 games. The bigger issue is that Perry and Arte don’t seem committed at all to even trying to win. Under the circumstance, I’m happy with the effort of the staff and players.
I’m looking at it in starting pitching terms.
Detmers and Anderson, 4-0
all others 2-6
That’s actually a really good way of putting it. And that 4-0 from Detmers and Anderson were really great, masterful pitching, not just “lucky” wins.
I expected Detmers to improve from last season. He clearly has ace potential, just needs to be more consistent.
Anderson has been a pleasant surprise. Hope he keeps this up.
The rest is just about what I expected from them.
All in all, it’s what we expected as fans – mediocre starting pitching staff.
Trevor Bauer is like:

What a stylish broad BTW.
19 years later and Doug Eddings is still a jackass
Some things never change.
When do we play the Marlins again?
Matt Thaiss and Jo Adell… come on man…
Fuck it, UFC 300 is nearly here….
It’s been around for 300 years? WOW!
Dude. It’s going to be a beautiful symphony of violence over all 13 fights…
The Rays, Rayed all over us. Frustrating game.
Good thing we only have 49 hours to think this one over.
we’ll be at least a .500 club til then
We still have a shot at 6-and-14.
WS dreams survive!
