Another Day In Hell, aka Texas; Halos Lose 12-0

After facing freshly ex-Met Verlander in Houston, the Angels had to go up against fellow freshly ex-Met Scherzer in Arlington, Texas.

In the first inning the first 3 Halo batters struck out, including a pitch timer violation on Drury, resulting in a technical K.

Patrick Sandoval also pitched a scoreless 1st inning with 3 strikeouts but it was a tad less smooth. Fortunately, he got out of a bases loaded jam unscathed.

In the 2nd, Moose singled and Renfroe walked but no scoring happened. The Rangers half was more successful. After a walk and single to start the inning, followed by a sac bunt (huh, small ball is still alive), Semien singled to center resulting in 2 runs with the assistance of a Moniak bobble in center.

The Angels offense did nothing once again in the 3rd, and the Rangers once again did something. Sandy started the inning with a walk, single, and walk and needed to get out of a bases loaded jam once again, but this time with no outs. Grossman went down on strikes, but J.P. Martinez was able to hit a sac fly to score one run. Another single left the bases loaded once again, this time with 2 outs, but Semien worked a walk to bring in yet another run. That would do it for Sandy after 2.2 innings, but his book was left wide open for Griffin Canning to add a 5th run via a wild pitch. After an intentional walk to Seager, Lowe struck out to end the inning. But now it was a deep hole, 5-0 Texas after 3.

Both teams went scoreless in the middle 2 innings and the Angels added the 6th inning to that as well. However, the Rangers got back on the board when Seager led off with a double, the Garver had a double of his own with 2 outs to make the score 6-0 after 6 innings.

The Angels went down in order in the 7th, but like a broken record, the Rangers did not. Canning’s last hurrah in this game looked like a double, single, and pop out, followed by a backbreaking 3 run homer by Semien.

Aaron Loup come on in “relief” and started with a line out to center, but then a Lowe single set the table for Adolis Garcia to hit a homer of his own, this one of the 2-run variety. 11-0 Texas.

Texas tacked on another run in the 8th to make the score 12-0, which turned out to be the final score.

Watching the ABC newscast as the anchor throws it to the sports guy: ‘Well I guess I could say this on many nights, but what went wrong today?’

Guy wearing tennis shoes with a suit: ‘Well a lot went wrong David…’

Doyers off, excellent job of beating a dead horse when it’s down!

Usually errors involving Semien have 9 months plus 18 years of consequences

On the bright side, I love that KC bunted off the Mariners.

The Mariners must have felt good, down by 5, then scoring 4 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th to take the lead, only to have the Royals tie on a sac fly, then win on a bunt.

This is 100% on Nevin. Clearly, the guys were checked out tonight for whatever reason. It’s his job to keep everyone up and ready to play. I fully expect them to come out tomorrow with some intensity if Nevin did his post-game job tonight.

I had no idea that Nevin could swear in Japanese.

Angels: 0 runs, 1 hit, 3 errors.
Rangers: 12 runs, 13 hits, 11 more LOB.

The only way the Angels could have made it more of a clown show would be if they slipped on banana peels running back to the dugout or tried to squeeze the entire team onto one of those maintenance golf carts.

Or the scorer could change Moose’s base hit to Semien’s error.

I could definitely see this team going on a run late. Possibly winning the last 6-8 games while being about 15 out from a wildcard spot.

Assuming that both Texas and Tampa Bay already securing their playoff spots and playing their secondary players to rest the starters, it is quite possible that the Angels win the last 15 games in a row and end up 15 games behind WC3 on October 1.

yeah that would be trAdition, to drop a few slots in the next year’s draft, tho really it prob doesn’t matter-it just doesn’t matter!-, in the last coupla weeks of the season

This is not a team. It’s a group of embarrassing individual players and coaches collecting paychecks along with a few talented players. Bye Ohtani, it’s been a fun 3/4 year watching you play.

I thought after last year we made some improvements and had more depth. Yet here we are like Ground Hog Day with Squid and Renjifo in our infield just like last year.

The depth the team need is at the minor league level. Guys in the Org who can fill in. The Angels farm is a joke.

Ohtani trade could have fixed some of that. Too late now

All the seasons run together. Can’t tell one from the other, no real time frame of beginning or ending. If it never ends does it really ever begin? But I guess we will look forward to spring training in 2024, Right?
With a new coaching staff, possibly a new GM, new team, no Shohei, wouldn’t be shocked if Trout is gone, still hurt or hurt again. But Arte will be around for us to beat up on and blame, we at least have that going for us. Good times! Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

See you then.

Sandoval is a mental case. Worst body language of anyone on the team. Driveline can’t do anything about his head.

Serious question: hindsight 20/20, but was it the right move in a 5 run game to put Canning in?

No, not at all. Short sighted move by a very very very mediocre coach.

Totally wrong move particularly with bases loaded. Talk about straining a young pitcher who has been injured.

Nevin just announced that Detmers will pitch on Wednesday since he did not pitch many innings at his last outing. The Angels are in real danger of being swept in this current series. Perhaps, the Angels should play the role of a spoiler rather than trying not to lose.

Or the Dancing Barria. He’ll be rested and ready to give up 5 in 2 innings again.

That’s barria’s role, but he was used yesterday and canning needed some work. That’s my guess.

This team officially gave up today.

I hope having a month and a half of revenue for a worn out Ohtani was worth it asshole!

Arte will collect his revenue with huge crowds of folks showing up to buy all the merchandise possible. Lines for the Team Store are unbelievable at the games. It’s actually kind of annoying.

Then things will quiet down, Ohtani will likely announce he’s a Dodger and hopefully this causes Arte to move forward with selling the team.

8-35 last 4 games. Amazing they won one of those.

I recall a 4 game series against Texas in 1998 (I think) where they came into Anaheim and outscored the Angels like 44-3.
