The Trade Deadline was good for the Angels. For the first time in Arte Moreno history, the team was actual, real sellers at the deadline. No just doing small deals, as big names Jose Soriano and Jo Adell were traded. Industry pros and our own Turks’ Teeth like what the Angels have done, and while we do not have the biggest names coming back, in the modern era of prospect hoarding, the Angels did do very good.
Soriano, Suter, Adell, Zeferjahn, and Yates are gone. Along with O’Hoppe and Silseth from a few days ago, the Angels trade 7 MLB players, their best SP, 4 RP, starting C, and starting RF. While this will sting, and make this team even worse this season, the Angels are not going to turn it around in 2027 anyway. Or even 2028 either. This is a tear down for the future, and while Detmers and Neto were not traded, the shopping around makes them prime offseason candidates for trades.
Jose Soriano is going to Toronto for prospects Arjun Nimmala (SS), Eddie Micheeletti (OF) and Angel Rivero (RHP).
Angels traded Brent Suter for an IF named Nacho Alvarez jr. Helmet Nachos with his name on it if he is any good.
Then, at 9:20 AM, the Angels traded Jo Adell to Cleveland. Guards are actually buying, and Jo Adell, the 3 home run robber himself, is gone. Jacob Cozart (C) is what the Angels get back.
Cubs deal with Detmers falls through. Still get Zeferjahn from the Angels. And for Moises Ballesteros (C) and Mason McGwire (RHP).
Kirby Yates to the pirates right as the buzzer goes off. Kyle Robinson (RHP) is the return.
While all this was going on, the Cubs and Angels were rumored to trade Detmers, but it fell through. Wee do not know why, but Cubs fans are disappointed. Again, Detmers can be traded this offseason, no need to rush.

As things wrap up, I am sure the comments will have even more to say, and for the first time in a long time, things look up for this team. By 2030. In the meantime, ESPN has ranked the prospects traded this deadline.
Now, hopefully, the team will invest some of the savings in player development and coaching.

Interesting. For all the head scratching about the Silseth deal, ESPN ranked the prospect we received as the 21st best out of 48 moved at the deadline.
Which means what exactly?
He’ll make it to AAA before he flames out?
Just that everyone seemed to think it was an absolute nobody but he is better than over half of who was moved.

I see 3 ways to look at these deals
1) as they are, what are our hopes now with these new players?
2) what would we have done if Perry were still the GM? How much worse would it be? Therefore how much better is it?
3) what if no deals were made? Could a team that still had Soriano, Adell, Zef compete if we filled other positions in free agency?
I’ll muse on that
I am looking forward to the next few games.
I want to see if the players run out ground balls, when a ball is hit to the outfield do the infielders cover a base or cut off position, do a few players finally play like their pants are on fire, can the pitchers throw strikes, can the batters only swing at pitches “near or in” the strike zone, etc.
I enjoy good baseball even when the result are not always a win. I have seen a lot of lousy baseball from the 2026 Angels.

Absolutely. Great comment Tex44. The easiet thing to do in sports, no matter the sport or the level, is to hustle all the time.
Hustling all the time is not “easy.” It is hard. That is what makes it valuable.
The trade deadline is over so no one has to worry about looking good. Plus they don’t have a manager who will look them in the eye. And this manager has not impressed me with trying to win games. I’d be surprised if this team all of a sudden plays great fundamental baseball.
And hitting 95+mph pitches that move half a foot or more is really hard.
Have stayed away from baseball as a whole this season but took a lot of interest in this deadline. Happy to see it finally happen.
Cynically think Arte chose to allow this now and not at any point over the last 8 years because the possibility of a salary cap AND a less barren farm system will drive up the sale price of the Angels.
If thats the case, thats a massive win-win. If Arte doesnt intend to sell, I’ll still take the committed rebuild I wanted for 8 years. Hopefully they can figure out the whole developing part now.

Concerning a “rebuild.” I was a Rangers fan going back to Ted Williams as manager. But when the Astros began losing 100 games a year, I decided to follow the rebuild. ( I saw Moneyball the movie but didn’t follow Beane.) After watching Luhnow, I followed David Stearns BRIEFLY to Milwaukee. I quickly determined he didn’t learn much in Houston. He is a perfect fit for the Mets. Then it was on to Elias in Baltimore. I thought he might have learned but found out he obviously didn’t. Now it is on to watch what happens with the Angels.
All of this is to say a complete “rebuild” is difficult. Luhnow started with a young Altuve at 2nd, Keuchel, and George Springer in AAA. He made many blunders but he appeared heartless. He didn’t fall in love with any player or any decision he made.
I hope the Angels are just as successful and interesting – without a trash can and broken bat.

I hope the players traded have good seasons and help their careers moving forward. I really hope Adell turns it on to get paid well. Always liked the guy – always seemed so close to turn the corner but it was time for both he and the team to move on.

I was wrong about Moz. I have been so rooted in disappointment for over a decade, I refused to let myself believe in anything positive. Good for you guys for still having some hope.
I have never heard of any of the players that the Halos acquired today, so I will just have to be patient for many years and see what happens.
However, I still think they got hosed on the Silseth deal. I couldn’t find one article that thought that the Halos didn’t take get smoked.
Bummed Adell is gone, but more bummed that Neto is still here.
Someone mentioned that Caden Dana’s walk rate is too high, but, I still hope he gets the call.
Slot him in the rotation for the next two months. Sink or Swim time IMO.
He is only 22 but 5.9 walks/9 is definitely too high.
He’s really not ready. His season got delayed due to mono, had a setback early on, multiple other minor injuries, walks, and hasn’t been able to get deep into games

Let’s remember – Detmers and Neto will still have very good value next year and at the Winter Meetings (assuming they have them)- potentially more – though now seemed to be the best it would get.
Well probably never know, but I’m curious about Moz saying he wasn’t comfortable with the offers received for Neto and Reid.
Did the Red Sox offer to the Angels what they ended up giving for Adley, but Moz thought it should still have been more? If that was not offered to the Angels, would he have hypothetically accept it?
What held up Reid’s trade, considering it was (incorrectly) published and reported, and he ended up doing a trade with the Cubs anyway?

since Neto and Detmers are still here, I’m honestly not sure that the current team is much worse after all this and the farm system is certainly better. The bullpen obviously will look really different without Silseth, Suter, Zef, Yates. I assume that Klassen will replace Soriano. We have a new 22 year old DH/C on the big league roster. Adell is gone, but that should open playing time to Meckler who has played better at least against RHP. If Soler is out of the lineup, so much the better.
i look forward to seeing who gets called up. I think it’s 4 roster spots to fill.
The final 2 months of the season will be significantly more interesting now that we’ve made so many roster moves.
Hopefully Klassen, Dana and perhaps Rada get called up and start for this final quarter of the campaign.
it’ll make us more tolerant of whatever we do on the field.
