1-0 Loss Postgame

In the first inning the Angels hitters went down in order. The Mariners loaded the bases on a walk, a throwing error, and a hit batter. Urena retired the Mariners without allowing a run.

Nobody from either team even got on base in the second inning. The Angels went down in order in the third inning. They had no hits and five strikeouts at that point. Urena hit his second Mariner batter in the third inning. He retired the Mariners side without a hit. Neither team had a hit at this point.

In the fourth inning, Denzer Guzman reached second base on a throwing error. The Angels left him there stranded. The Mariners did squat; thereby sending the game into the fifth inning with competing no-hitters.

Going into the sixth inning, neither team had a hit or a run. The Angels did not get a hit in the sixth. J.P. Crawford doubled in the Mariners half to break up Urena’s no-hit bid. Urena then issued two straight walks to load the bases with one out. Cal Raleigh walked to drive in a run. 1-0 Mariners. At this point, Samy Natera Jr. came in to pitch. He got out of the inning with no further scoring.

In the seventh inning, Nolan Schanuel singled to break up the Mariners bid for a no-hitter.

Denzer Guzman also singled. Jorge Soler contributed a strikeout. Wade Meckler flied out and Jo Adell grounded out. Still 1-0 Mariners.

It was still 1-0 Mariners after the Angels half of the eighth inning. The Mariners did nothing in the bottom of the eighth. In the ninth, Zach Neto led off with a walk. Nolan Schanuel singled, but in the process Zach Neto got himself picked off. Jorge Soler got a two out single to put men at first and second. Wade Meckler gounded out to end the game. The Angels lost 1-0.

My disenchantment with Neto isn’t about talent. He doesn’t appear to be a team first guy in my view. Selfish and stupid are hard to fix. I do think that he’s valuable, as a trade chip.

I don’t think Neto is selfish or stupid. I think baseball is hard and he’s a mess. But I have seen selfish and stupid, I watched Rengifo for years. Neto aint it.

Whether it be a 1st year or veteran, I hope the next manager is able to command the respect of his players.

Neto continues to do dumb moves, make errors, get caught stealing in the 9th, but nothing will change because he knows Kurt will not do anything to discipline him. He should be benched tomorrow and hitting 8th the next day…but he won’t.

Fast forward to the lockout please.
