Angels Lose Badly Sans Perry

Firing your lame duck GM mid season is certainly a move. But having the old Cards guy ho ripped the Angels off constantly in the 2010s just fell into Arte’s lap. Even if he is only here to draft well, things may be looking up for this sorry franchise.

Of course, that doesn’t mean the team will magically be better. Things take time, and short of replacing half the team, there isn’t much that the new guy can do right now. Maybe he will be the one to trade players, if Arte will let him.

That’s the real question. If Arte will let him. On the one hand, Arte Moreno has knee capped GM after GM for 16 years. On the other hand, this is not a newbie. This is the best GM in the NL in the 2010s. A world series winner, and someone who had one of the best farms in Baseball. He can maybe do what he wants, as that may even be a part of his deal to even come on.

Jeff better ask good questions

Anyway, how does the team do in the new era? Walbert Urena went 4 and 1/3 innings, giving up 7 runs on 6 hits striking out 5 and walking 2. Wow that’s bad. And it was all in a horrible 5th inning with 1 out. Nothing more than walks and singles through the infield. BABIP to death.

This is why people want pitchers who K

Highlighted Recap

It was a pitching duel, with the first run being a single by Walton in the 3rd.

Meanwhile, Urena was cruising, 4 perfect innings. And then the 5th happened.

7-1 A’s

Yikes. Well, the Angels did not give up, as they made it a game again thanks to Jo Adell.

7-3 A’s

However, the A’s got those back thanks to a questionable catcher’s interference

Suzuki ejected

8-3 A’s

And a double

9-3 A’s

The Angels tried, even getting the bases loaded, but they strike out too much and lost the first game with the new GM.

Upcoming

More games vs A’s up next. After that, 3 in Seattle.

With Pazuzu not in the lineup, Suzuki officially becomes the worst Halo coach ever. Lowe and Soler are awful.

On April 17th, the Angels record was 11-10. Since then they are 23-39. 23 wins since since mid April.ugh. Meanwhile the very low budget Marlins have the mlb best 17-5 in June so far. Dumping the GM is a start, but this road has been traveled before, changing GMs. Let’s see if the place keeper GM has the backbone to rid the team of overpaid, very underforming roster taking deadweights andmake sensible trades and draft wisely.
Meanwhile Pujols is clamoring for the Mets managers gig. Better there than Anaheim.

Don’t forget that Perry started by shedding underperforming players with bloated contracts – Pujols and Upton.

He waited far too long in both cases.

I don’t want him at all. Hated him as a player here. Just another bad contract, we paid for his HOF career elsewhere and he left under bad circumstances.

I hate this fucking team

Terry Smith on AM830: “the other thing that was announced today was that Kurt Suzuki will stay on as the Angels manager until the end of the season.”

If Kurt was being constrained, he could have made a statement with the line up but he didn’t.

I want to give Suzuki another chance. Hopefully, he has had a chance to discuss lineups with the new interim and will pleasantly surprise us.

Walton at 2nd base threw the game away

This doesn’t bother me as much. We need to tank for draft position and he’s the perfect imbecile for the job.

The important thing is we don’t have Perry the Pathetic making any more roster decisions.

I won’t argue this point, although I’m little nervous that this move doesn’t indicate an Arte sale is on the horizon

Probably not but on the other hand a new owner would want to name his own GM, his own manager. What good manager would agree to come in for a short term job? So, being optimistic, letting Suzuki stay for the year could actually be a sign that Arte will sell after the season

When GMs get fired, managers are usually spared of the stray rounds. Makes little sense to fire the manager at this point.

Don’t forget the tank, embrace it

I wonder if Perry wanted to trade Soriano, Detmers, Adell and some sort of disagreement with Arte led to the firing.

Perry sucked but it’s out of character of Arte to fire a front office exec mid season. Feels somewhat similar to the Dipoto situation

If Perry was fired because he was attempting to do something good instead of just for his poor performance, he should say so. Arte needs to have no one who wants to work for him.

It would be really interesting if he came out and said this.

I bet the fan base would lose their minds if this kind of news broke. Hard confirmation that Arte is a meddling idiot and this team will never win until he dies.

problem is that saying something like that would be cutting his own throat in terms of any high level MLB job in the future ; as bad as Arte’s reputation is around the League, insubordination and especially speaking out against your boss in the media is a no, no that other owner’s would take note of …..

I have trouble believing Perry was going to do anything that would make sense.

We have seen Perry’s player evaluations. Thank goodness he didn’t gave the chance to make more trades

Could be that Arte just lost confidence in Perry and his ability to put together a cohesive plan to get the team back to relevance. His poor record in trades, FA signings and roster construction scared the shit out of Arte and was not going to let him send off valuable trade assets for other assets.

This is what I am thinking. His off season moves this year have been an absolute disaster with the exception of adding respectable AAA depth.

I think Arte sucks, but if he realized he can’t possibly let Perry run another trade deadline and acted on it, then good for him.

Six in the morning gave me no warning that I had to be on my way. The Brothers Minasian run has finally ended. Kurt is packing lightly and ready for the phone call. Does this mean that Arturo is going to listen to someone who knows better than himself, someone who is going to clean house moving forward, let’s all hope so. Yahoo Baby.

Considering he was Perry’s guy, his days might be numbered. Not sure I would do it now though, unless he has lost the locker room.

I would have been fine canning Perry and Kurt at the same time, but don’t think that should be laid into the hands of an interim GM.

Can you lose something you never had? The players might like him but they certainly don’t respect him. He’s a dope and a pushover.

Kurt stays as long as the consultant determines he has value.

The over/under is 72 hours.
