LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Worst team in Baseball

Morning Angels fans, have some links or whatever

Angels News

The Angels lost AGAIN, this time when scoring more than 2 runs. Which is a low bar, but the Angels have scored 2 or fewer runs in 25 of their games this season.

Also, thanks to this loss, the Angels now not only have the worst record in all of baseball, but a worse record than the 2019 Nats, who went 19-31 to start that season on the way to a World Series.

That the Angels are only 7 and a half games out of 1st place really emphasizes that the AL West is BAD this year, not 1994 bad, at least, not yet. But getting there.

Hey, at least the Angels have yet another game of being no hit. 15th longest streak of all time!

Oh and Sunday’s game will be on Peacock. Because we have too many streaming services.

Gubi and a bunch of other guys

Around Baseball

Things were wild yesterday. like an Inside the park GRAND SLAM! That was on the CF tho.

Or how about so many shirtless guys around baseball. Seriously, it is everywhere!

Streaks getting broken, like Mason Miller’s first loss since May 17th 2025. And first as a Padre.

And walk offs like the Cards in Extras and the Sneks in 9. Mariners blow it in the 9th.

Who has been the best and worst at Win Probability added this season? Not the Angels… somehow.

Now, who wants to watch Women’s baseball? Tickets available tomorrow.

Here is the first team ALL MLB team predictions. And 2nd team.

People still believe in Mike Trout. Please stay healthy

What is really surprising is that Jo Adell is in the top 10 with RISP this season. Seriously.

Way to go!

Just a funny farm asterisk for prospect hounds, and those who puzzle over the difference between those who post insane numbers with metal bats in college while struggling with wood bats in the pros.

Ryland Zaborowski is in the house.

Zaborowski led all SEC hitters last year in OBP and OPS, with a video game slash of .370/.500/.788. He was Georgia’s cleanup guy, often at 1B or DHing due to, well, positional ‘limitations’.

I was a little surprised that he wasn’t a day two senior sign, as I figured some team would take a flyer on him in the 9th or 12th or, say, 17th round. But he went undrafted, and the Angels picked him up as a UDFA the week after the draft.

It makes some sense, as he grew up a hardcore Angels fan in Laguna Hills.

He’s 24, recently promoted to low-A Rancho, and is hitting .342/.490/.658 over his first 12 games.

Dream, Angels fans. 🙂

He’s old for Low A, but I’m rooting for him! I don’t know the severity of his autism and it doesn’t matter — what he’s accomplished thus far is incredible and I can’t wait to see what he’s able to do in pro ball. His story hits close to home for me.

Ryland Zaborowski story is pretty great, diagnosed with autism as age of 3, grew up baseball obsessed (and Angels fan), became one of best hitters in college for a half decade

Had a pretty incredible day yesterday. Got to the ballpark about 3 to cover the Angels event with at risk youth. Walked through the tunnels, into the dugout, and onto the field.

Was able to interview Jo Adell and Gubi in the dugout. Walked by Trout so close we almost bumped shoulders, then I walked onto the grass and stood a couple feet from the cage as he took batting practice.

I’m doubling down on Trent Rush being a good guy. He saw me looking a bit lost in the dugout and said “good to see you” and shook my hand. Kind of made me feel like I belong.

Will get more into this in Weekend Links.

Do you get to bring a buddy? Back in hs we had a sports turf management class where we kept up all the baseball fields. The teacher’s best buddy happened to be the angels field manager. Every year he took his class to angel stadium to walk the field and do a meet and greet. The day of the field trip my mom and I get in a huge car accident and I never got to enjoy that trip. As a die hard angel fan that day always sticks with me, lol.

This was back in 1999 off the 210. Crazy my mom was commuting from simi valley to chino to drop me off at hs, then she would drive to work to the city of industry, then drive back to chino to pick me up and head back to simi valley. She was in the process of buying her first condo and lost it all, I feel so bad for my mom.

What the hell happened to Detmers last night? Strikes out 5 of 6 in the first two inning, but can’t but then gets rocked in the 3rd. And it’s not like he was hanging pitches. The A’s got 4 hits on pitches that just barely caught the edge of the zone or were off the plate.

The defensive miscue by Trout really opened up that inning. I had a perfect view of it. Adell had a much better chance at that ball. And Teodosio had a much better chance than Trout. Or even Siri who was in left field.

Love Mike but he needs to move out of CF.

I think Adell has found a home in RF and wouldn’t do as well defensively in CF. But yeah, Trout should be in LF when Teodosio or Siri play, and Lowe should never play.

Agreed. Adell in RF is the way to go. Trout in CF is not the way to go.

On the ball in question last night, it was in right center field and Adell pulled off as Trout charged towards it.

Not playing Teo in CF considering the complete lack of offense we get in LF is criminal, as is playing Moncada at 3B instead of Grissom.

I am perplexed. Detmers has the best K/B ratio on the team. Better than Soriano with an equal strikeout rate and a lower BB rate. He also has the best FIP on the team, 2 points below his ERA which could indicate that he has been very unlucky and a victim of poor defense. His peripherals seem to say he’s a really good pitcher. On a team that walks a lot of people he walks very few and Ks a lot.

About 2 years ago, I was buying into the notion that we had an emerging core: Neto, O’Hoppe, Adell, Schaneul….I remained hopeful that the Angels would get better. As you mentioned to me in a comment, with Arte, this team was a dead end. I eventually figured it out. I thank you for that.

AnAngelsFan

It’s absurd to say Neto sucks when he put up back-to-back 3.0 WAR seasons. Just because he is struggling now doesn’t mean he sucks.

And frankly, Adell’s splits against righties suck, so at best he looks to be a platoon RF and backup OF.

Angels2020Champs

In person, Neto hasn’t done anything but strike out in the lead off spot. He did hit a solo HR for the 1-0 win I was at. I don’t like his personality, swag, or style of play.

In person Adell has 3 home run robberies and plays the game the way I like to see it played.

AnAngelsFan

I like Adell and am rooting for him, but I don’t think it is fair to base an opinion of players’ overall ability on anecdotal evidence from games you have personally attended.

I bet seeing Adell do that in person was so much fun.

Angels2020Champs
Legend

Reply to  AnAngelsFan

Games I attend, which is usually 10+ and includes trips on the road, isn’t crazy imo. Stats in baseball, generally, are absurd. How many runs did Ryan Johnson give up yesterday, those sure pad stats and aren’t indicative of many factors. Adell has how many DRS yet I’ve watched him rob a minimum of 4 actual runs. FWIW if I was there in person last night and adell didn’t come through in the field or batters box (like the first inning) I’d think differently. Overall the entire team is trash and diaper trash at home. If I’m going to be selective on who I give a hard time to, the ‘winner’ is going to be those that suck when I’m there.

Pineapple12

Everyone knows how much I love Jo but objectively Neto is the better player.

It’s easier to dunk of Neto right now because he’s been put in the impossible position to lead the franchise forward and he’s failing at it.

Hard to argue when you saw the 3 HR robberies in-person haha

5 WAR seasons and he’s on pace for 4-5 this season. He’s a very good player but he’s the only one. I like Adell defensively but he can’t hit.

Senator_John_Blutarsky

Adell is a “feast or famine” hitter. When he gets in a groove, he’s a special player. It’s unfortunate that he has more “off” games than “groove” games.

He’s a starter on the Halos, on a contender he’s a platoon player until he’s more consistent.

Roy Hobbs

Sadly, the fact is Adell has never hit better than 10% below average other than last year during his 7 year major league career.

AnAngelsFan
Super Member
Reply to  Roy Hobbs

But he’s been 40-60% above average vs. lefties since 2024 and 13% better vs. lefties over his career. On the short side of a platoon, he’d be a good.

Imagine pairing him with someone like Brandon Marsh, who hits 20% better than average against righties (40% better in 2026) but struggles against lefties. Too bad those two will never end up on the same team.

This team sucks balls in a lot of ways but they truly suck in the one new thing that’s supposed to help players – the ABS system! Even “good eye” Trout has been horrible in his non-challenges.

So what if you lose the first one?! There’s still another one. And as long as you get it right, you keep the challenges in the game. Do these players know that these unused challenges do not get carried over to the next game?!

This team isn’t going anywhere this year so why be gun shy about using those challenges? Do they think they get these unused challenges in the playoffs?!

It appears to me that the Angels have no plan on the use of ABS challenges. They all seem to just be winging it individually. Those challenges need to be managed just like every other facet of the game.

They’re trying Grissom in LF too. The refusal to commit to playing Peraza full-time makes me think we’ll eventually see CMo at 2nd, Guzman at 3rd, Grissom in LF, Peraza as the utility IFer.

Matter of time. How much time? That depends on when Perry ends his ménage à trois with Moncada and Lowe

It’s moronic because Peraza is still the 2nd best hitter on the team after Trout more than a quarter of the way through the season and a very solid defensive 2B. CMo is light years away from being a productive major leaguer. CMo at 2nd would be a bad decision but consistent with the other bad decisions made by the organization.

FWIW, Denzer saw the majority of his appearances in AAA last season at third base, and they had him there with the Pandas before his promotion to Salt Lake. BA projects him as the team’s regular 3B by 2028.

That’s just to say that this isn’t a new experiment – I think he’s received more SS appearances this year only because the depth chart is so thin at short on the Bees. When Guzman slides over to the hot corner, they have 33-yr-old Yolmer Sanchez playing SS.

Similar story in AA – first man up is Mac McCroskey. Not much of a depth chart at the moment.

Getting a “nationally televised” Peacock game might dovetail nicely with all the shirt-waving, “Sell the Team,” and “Arte Sucks” energy that’s been bubbling around the Big rÅt this week. Plus, there’s a planned demonstration Friday night and then the protest outside the stadium on Saturday. What else is the Peacock commentary team going to talk about? It’s not going to be the product on the field.

Hopefully we get 2.5 hours of shart-stain shame. We know Ratty Moreno doesn’t care, but maybe if this becomes more of a viral/national media story, it will at least give MLB the impetus to nudge the auld “see you next Tuesday” into strongly considering a Joe Lacob bid.

Shame, shame, shame until Moreno reaches Frank McCourt/Donald Sterling levels of humiliation.

HEY! It could happen…?
