And with the 12th pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, the Halos pick a high school relief pitcher.
Gitcho goes nuts and is the happiest he’s ever been.
Sad to see Jackson go. Had the highest upside of the vanishingly few bats the Angels drafted last summer. Was looking forward to his first full season of ball, as the club has a very light OF pipeline after Rio Foster’s car accident. Rada in AAA, Raudi in A+, and Alvarez in low-A at this point. Not much else.
Agree that this looks like a dupe of the Peraza pickup.
My whole draft series was focused on ‘rebalancing’ the farm to create positional depth. Perry took the opposite approach and emphasized prep arms and college relievers.
Would be healthy to see them deal from the areas they’re overweight in instead of further subtracting from the little positional prospect talent they have.
A detail I’ve brought up before. Sure, we need all the pitching prospects we can get. I understand. But as far as trade bait goes hot young pitchers are just not attractive to other teams as much as position players. So even if we have six arms in the top 100 prospect list some day it’s less valuable than position bats.
I liked Jackson. I also liked Grissom a lot back when. Meh.
Jesus Christ CtPG. Reading comprehension guys. Fking try it some time.
VAUGHN GRISSOM. Click the link if you want to actually know stuff instead of reading the bummblefk understanding failures that half the comments so far seem to include.
He is NOT arb eligible until 2028.
He IS currently making the league minimum.
He is NOT anywhere near free agency till 2031.
He was NOT from the Braves, we got him from the Red Sox.
He IS 24 years old.
He WAS a top 100 prospect.
He IS out of minor league options so if we try to send him down he has to pass through waivers.
There you go. Took 30 second on Google.
Wait – I thought Virgil was part of the “Mercury 7” team, and went by the name “Gus”?
Some teams make tsunami-like BIG SPLASHES
others make little splashes in a toilet bowl
We just tipped over one of them soy sauce plates at the sushi restaurant.
I’m ok with that. Fun times ahead.
The rich get richer. Edwin Diaz to LA 3yr/$69MM
silver lining… they must have one of the worst farms in MLB… a punishment for division dominance.
i can sleep soundly knowing that.
That would be logical but they also kick the Angels ass in prospect rankings. Just kicking the can here but, perhaps a coherent organizational philosophy might help. Adopting a scouting and minor league development structure that emulates what the Dodgers are doing might be prudent. The Angels have been upper tier spenders but were foolish in how they spent it.
It worked before with the 2002 WS Championship which was mostly built by the Ex-Dodger brain trust, along with Stoneman who had similar views.
Soo exciting, why this immediately turns us into a contender, as for being better than Pereza, yep that is a low bar to fly over, so yes that can be done. gee-whiz PTP is so awesome. Glad we saved money at the top of the draft to pay more for the lower rds of the draft just to trade them away.
Is this a Howie Kendrick like bat to ball skills? It gives us added depth but I’m seeing a $5million salary with arbitration correct?
This is surely the end of Reefo as well now in Anaheim
Grissom was Wash’s protege that was supposed to be the heir apparent for Dansby Swanson that never panned out.
Just another AA/PTP trade that this time went through Boston but took 2 years to consummate.
hes got to better than Oswald Pereza as a backup infielder. Not sure I want him as our starting second basemen even if they move C Moore to Third.
That was my thoughts as well, ties to the Braves farm system. Perry must have liked what he saw there. Never emerged as higher than 7th rank in their pipeline..
All I know is this guy has failed to make the leap. Boston has clearly moved on and gave up on their primary trade piece from the Chris Sale (The Atlanta Braves Cy Young winner) trade.
I have no issue with it as I see it as pretty much a big nothing move although I am ignorant about the guy we gave up for him and we don’t currently have enough major league infielders. He is not part of any youth movement though if he is already arb eligible meaning he costs money and has only 3 years of control. Perry does like players from Atlanta who everyone has given up on. Other teams are not stupid, there is very little chance he is worth anything. Just another example of Perry having no clue what he’s doing, Arte as well.
Thanks for the update. The 5 years is very good. If we keep trading guys though before we know if their good or not for guys other teams have decided are not, we are never going to get to the point of accumulating young talent. You have to trade something to get something but we keep nosing through the trash hoping to find gold. I have no way to judge this trade at this time. Maybe it will work out.
I can dig it. Low risk. Semi-low probability of this working. But the reward could be high, especially if this makes Moore a LF with a developed bat…. or something.
Scouting grades from back when he was a prospect in 2022 were what I’d want. Good bat to ball skills. Has the arm to play 3B if they want to try it. I liked Jackson, but I get the idea here…
Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 50 | Arm: 55 | Field: 45 | Overall: 55

Angels Acquire Vaughn Grissom
Angels GM Perry Minasian made his first move at the Winter Meetings, snagging infielder Vaughn Grissom from the Red Sox. Grissom went to the Sox in a trade that sent Chris Sale to the Braves. So he checks the all important “Former Brave” box.
The return for Boston is 2025 8th rounder Isaiah Jackson who was drafted out of Arizona State as a centerfielder.
This trade opens up a roster spot for Boston and essentially flips a near MLB ready prospect for one further from the Show. Boston has been active this off season and could be adding a free agent or simply giving themselves the option to grab a player in the Rule V draft tomorrow.
But what about the Angels side of things?
Grissom is only 24 years old and has appeared in each of the last 3 MLB seasons, with declining results each year. He’s spent the bulk of his professional career playing shortstop and second base. And while he’s struggled in limited at bats at the MLB level, he’s produced strong results in the minors.
Last year Grissom put up a .270/.342/.441 slash line in AAA with 24 doubles and 13 home runs in 418 plate appearances.
Like utility pickup Oswald Peraza last year, Grissom is out of options and must stick with the MLB club. And like Peraza he’s a multiple position player with a high prospect pedigree who simply hasn’t put it together at the MLB level.
Grissom currently sits atop the second base depth chart which will give Christian Moore time to develop in the minors. If Moore forces his way onto the team, Grissom is nice bench piece who can cover multiple positions on the dirt.
The Angels are obviously hoping Grissom can fulfill his promise and become part of a young core of players with Zach Neto, Nolan Schanuel, and Logan O’Hoppe. The fact of the matter is the Angels need to take gambles like these due to a lack of organizational depth. Most of them won’t work out, but the ones that do will be a huge boon towards future success.
At this point, I’d love to keep the youth/upside movement going and sign a young third baseman like Song Sung-mun.
