LA Angels Monday News Crash: Super Tooz

It looks like the Super 2 cutoff will be around 2.140 years of service time this year.

The Dodgers won the World Series. I guess they are the best team deferred money can buy.

As you probably have heard, the Angels hired Mike Maddux to be their new pitching coach. The Cardinals hired a bunch of front office guys.

The Pirates claimed right-hander Dugan Darnell off waivers from Colorado. Catcher Jorge Alfaro cleared waivers and is now a free agent. Here is the MLBTR take on the top trade candidates of this off season. Here is the time line of the various milestones of the off season. Mark your calendars.

Yoervis Medina passed away at the age of 37. He was a former major league pitcher with the Mariners and Cubs.

Edwin Diaz just opted out and is a free agent

His last salary was $21m, I believe. That isn’t going to happen here. Just my two cents.

He’s certainly looking for more than 2 years 37M which is what he has left.

Good for him. We should sign him so we can complain about him.

only one FA signing seems certain to me: Jansen

Just what we need, a closer for a 5th place team. Jansen on a 1-year would suffice.

Neto is ranging from $4.1 million to $5.2 million. Watch them blow this and low ball him. Then they end up in arbitration – present their case and piss him off. There are times to haggle – and there are times to just get ‘er done. Get him near the top and work on a deal.

F that. It’s time for Perry to buy out his arb years and extend him.

Would be very surprised if Arte allows that. For anyone. Arte needs to re-up his TV deal and MLB needs to announce, at least to the owners, where next media revenue stream is coming from.

It’s my belief that Arte will sell once the trial is over and the new MLB Players Union contract is in place and will tread water until that time.

Does it make me a total lop that I was super excited when we signed Mike Maddox to be our pitching coach? That guy has taken guys with far less ability than Silent C and made them pretty darn good. I think he’ll be great for guys like Jack, Soriano, Detmers who have some MLB mileage on them and need to make a couple changes to hit a new level.

It makes me want to go out and sign guys like Zack Littell, Nabil Crismatt or German Marquez. Guys who could be semi-ace if coaching fixed or unlocked a little extra.

I’m in on Maddox, think he can get the best out of our guys and if not, give us an idea how really bad our pitching staff is.

My secret wish is that he works with the MiLB pitching coaches.

he’ll be working directly with Bremner and Shores in about 100 days.
maybe TGA and DJ too.

but more importantly – Detmers, Soriano, Silseth.

Chase and Bachman…our last hope for the 2021 draft.
I’ll eat 20 hostess Ding Dongs backed by a six-pack of Yoohoo if just one of these guys turn the corner. Mikey Maddux come on, baby.

If he gets cut I say we take a flyer on Stuart Fairchild. Plays all three OF positions, has some pop, has some speed. I liked him at Wake Forest….

Man. How does Dave Roberts and Doyer fan handle the bowel rupturing crucible of hot hot pressure to come through and win despite all the adversity? I can’t imagine how horrible it must be to be in a hotly contested World Series against a team as unstacked and injured as the Blue Jays and have to wonder, “Which pitcher do I use in next? The one with a contract worth almost a billion dollars or just one of the schmucks with a 300M contract or maybe just a schmuck that was the most desirable reliever on the market the year we signed him?” I can’t imagine the strength of character it takes to roll the dice on such hopeless odds all the time and keep pushing towards the impossible dream.

And having a dugout full of castaways no one wanted like Michael Conforto, Miguel Rojas, Hyeseoung Kim, Tommy Edman and Andy Pages to back up a line up that only has Will Smith, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Max Muncy, Teoscar Hernandez and Shohei Ohtani in it? Dave Roberts is the greatest leader since Lord Admiral Nelson! Clearly Doyer fans “did it”.

Most fan bases just don’t understand how horrible it is to be in a position to sign Conforto and Hernandez and then bitch about it like they just drank toilet water to survive. The Blue tread ground where only the most heroic dare show their face.

I don’t care if they have to lose two seasons to a strike. Time for a salary cap and a closing of the loop holes. I don’t know why any of the fanbases in the Central divisions even bother anymore.

Love your takes. You and Joiner are two of the reasons I keep showing up here and am still an Angel fan 51% of the time. (49% goes to hating the MFY)

I hung out with a pile of Tigers, Reds and Pirates fans to watch the last 2 games of the series. A couple A’s, Indians and Royals fans too. Christ it was depressing. Just hate watching the series hoping the Doyers lose. Listening to tyhem discuss which teams will get Skubal, Tyler Soderstrom, Hunter Greene, Paul Skenes and Maikel Garcia off their rosters the next couple years… literally trying to decide if it’s more palatable for their favorite guys to go to the Mets, Doyers or Yankees…. maybe the “scrappy dark horse” Phillies or Red Sox?

I hate where the Angels are at, but at least our situation has hope. There are literally like 12 fan bases out there where they don’t even bother getting attached to favorite players because they’ll be gone in two years. It’s why I love Bobby Witt Jr and his contract with the Royals so much.

I officially hate the Doyers more than even the Yankees at this point….

I could care less about the L’s until L is gone. Just never liked the guy and tbh, basketball just isn’t interesting anymore. I need a Kobe, Shaq or Michael. So yeah, bag of dicks from them and my other ex’s.
I completely understand hating the Doyers. It’s a big part of why I hate the MFY. I did grow up with the Doyers, Soscia was a big part o becoming an Angels fan and just find it hard to hate the Doyers players. They’re just really good guys, and I will always root for the team left, with the players I like the most. It’s an emotional decision that I don’t get to make often in life.

LMAO 😂

Oh yeah. That first ballot, and likely unanimous, HOFer. We’ll keep on the roster and give him a batter.

it definitely could be worse.

in naming rights, the nepotistic Suns owner just named the Suns arena in downtown Phoenix, aka AmericaWest aka Footprint, after his own mortgage company.

So immediately I thought the worst: Welcome to Anaheim, home of Moreno Reality Group Stadium.

At least Guggenheim Stadium is appropriate.

Fantastic World Series. I went to Game 3, which was great second best game I’ve personally attended after Game 6 2002.

Let Minasian’s Off Season of meh officially commence.
