We Lost Postgame

This was Yusei Kikuchi’s day to start.

Kikuchi got into a jam in the first and pitched right back out of it. Mike Trout got a one out double. Nolan Schanuel drove him in to make it 1-0 Angels.

Taylor Ward also had a hit but Yoan Moncada grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Now the Angels seemed to have settled into the non-scoring portion of the game. That held until Julio Rodriguez homered in the top of the fifth inning to make it a 1-1 tie. Cal Raleigh singled and Randy Arozarena homered. 3-1 Mariners. Mitch Garver only doubled. It didn’t matter.

Luis Rengifo followed up a Mariner three spot in the fifth inning by grounding out to second. Zach Neto also grounded out. Mike Trout walked but Nolan Schanuel struck out.

Enter Quijada! He had a scoreless inning. Enter Bachman! Scoreless inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Luis Rengifo singled and advanced to second on a balk. Zach Neto singled to score Rengifo and took second on the throw. 3-2 Mariners.

Mike Trout flied out to end the inning.

Enter Jose Fermin who gave up a homer to Jorge Polanco to make it 4-2 Mariners. He got some other guys out and ended up only giving up one run in the inning. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Nolan Schanuel singled on a liner to center. Taylor Ward grounded into a force out and then pinch hitter Chris Taylor struck out. There was no joy in Mudville. Jo Adell also struck out.

Carson Fulmer came in to anti-close. He pitched a scoreless ninth, including striking out Cal Raleigh.

Travis d’Arnaud grounded out. LaMonte Wade Jr. reached first on a strikeout/wild pitch. Luis Rengifo grounded into a force out. Zach Neto singled and drove Rengifo to second. Mike Trout took a walk instead of gobbling up his thousandth RBI. The pitches were pretty bad. Nolan Schanuel lined out with the bases loaded to end the game. The Angels lose 4-2.

Three playoffs teams in a row. The games are close on the score card but, they don’t seem all that competitive. At least the last two.

Damn, it’s the Mariners. This one stings, wanted to take the 1st game and set the tone.

Ok is anyone left on Team Playoffs or are we all comfortable with selling now? As long as they seem like reasonable trades 🤞🏼

5.5 back in WC.
Our run differential is +5 better than the White Sox (37-66).

One thing Bill James wrote a long time ago is that if run differential doesn’t match won-loss record then the following season will even out. Like the Padres had a . 500 season with a good run differential and then bounced back the next year. Or if we’re outplaying the run differential we are likely to go backwards in 2026… according to Bill James, anyway
