Ah the Mets, the NL Angels. Overshadowed by their in market other league rival and the OG Expansion teams, constantly injured and making their fans cry. At least the Mets’ owner is not cheap at all. In fact there are new tax rules because of him. One day, the Angels will have a new owner as well. One day…
Right, the game. Well it was Tyler Anderson’s turn. He went 6+ innings, giving up 4 runs (Only 2 while on the mound) on 4 hits, striking out 4 and walking 5. A No Decision and a shoulda woulda coulda.
Highlighted Recap
The Angels struck first in the 2nd with an O’Hoppe Home run!
In the 3rd, Ward doubled in 2.
And Adell drove him in
Unfortunately, this is odd year Anderson and so he gave up a 2 run shot in the 4th.
Good thing Ward drove in a run in the 7th.
Would have been more but Mike Trout was not fast enough.
Anderson went out for the 7th, but did not retire a batter and so Detmers came in, hit a batter, and then allowed a run to score.
And then 2 more on a single. Tied game.
Mets scored in the 8th to get the lead thanks to Moncada being unable to throw out the runner at home.
And then allowed another.
Then they failed to score again. Angels lose.
Upcoming
2 more in NY and then back home for a long homestead. 13 straight home games! And CtPG will be at the Big A on Saturday August 2nd. Sign up if you want to sit with us!
Welp. we lost a solidly contested game to a good team. It’s almost as if, call me crazy, this isn’t that good a team yet.
I really enjoy the strides these boys have made. But I watch a few teams. All of them are better than this team. Even the Reds are better. They just are. I was saying it when man bitch was bitching about losses, I’ll say it when man bitch doesn’t want to give up on making the play offs because HEEEE NEEEEDS IT that bad.
This team is still not GOOD. They are just less bad and still have a shit farm.
You all seem to hate Arte/Eppler logic, with all the maybes and the squinting. Stop indulging the same shit in yourselves. Sure, Arte will probably fk up and “go for it” this year…. or puss out on both ends and stand pat. So which of you simps is gonna come out and say Arte’s right when he does it? And defend him when we shockingly finish out of the play offs? Or worse, get our salads tossed in the first round and suck for another three years?
Were you talking shit about 2023s trades but NOW we need to go for it? Do you still ask yourself “Why does this Gitcho fellow seem to have so little respect for my brain puffs?”
Well fellas, next time you ponder my disdain remember the next ten days and what you were pushing for, because even if we enjoy a miracle run to the post season we will be in trouble in a year with no one to trade but guys you really want to keep.
A ton of hyperbole here. The vast majority on this board are firmly in the “sell” camp – particularly Ward, Jansen, Moncada, Tyler Anderson, The Heef, etc.
At the same time, most are enjoying the relative competitiveness of the squad and there is nothing wrong with that, either. And if they somehow sneak into the playoffs without making the same mistakes as 2023, hell, that’s like “two chics at the same time, man”.
The debates around here are on the margins: Management & Tyler Ward.
Personally, Ward & Jansen arr the only chips of value and if we’re moving them, I’d prefer a couple of league average players with multiple years of control and a couple of lottery ticket minor leaguers thrown in.
We’re not going to land top organizational prospects with our chips and we have holes ro fill.
Yes. Lot’s of folks are hoping for trades. They can just ignore the shit out of me. I must not be talking about them. The only inclusive I used was that the Arte/Eppler era “maybe this idea could maybe work if seven things go right” thinking is generally railed against around here.
And those that are engaging in it now are some of the loudest protestors of these past instances…. at least with the magic of hindsight. Arte and friends have a lot of ways to suck, but you can’t beat a dog for being too loud and then beat him for not barking. It’s an asshole move.
Bad juju.
Since we often have problems scoring RISP with 2 outs and since our pitchers seem to lose focus with 2 outs, maybe we should get Manfraud to change half innings to 2 outs instead of 3. It would shorten games, too
Fletcher plays devil’s advocate on the issue of trading Ward:
So unimaginative. Why can’t Ward bring back a cheaper controllable outfield prospect?
I mention this in today’s news crash open thread, but the Cubs have three completely blocked OF prospects in AAA – Owen Caissie probably the best of them – and could use an upgrade in LF.
They’re not the only ones.
Sooooo we can kick the can he just outlined down the road one more year, then either get stuck paying Ward, paying someone who produces like Ward, or losing his production but also have no new position prospects and a team that is one year older.
But we didn’t give up on 2026. That’s pretty cool.
What was frustrating about this game was that the Angels got through to the hardest part early – they actually chased Kodai Senga after 3 innings!!! That’s a huge accomplishment in itself, and frankly, should have been enough to win. Got their stud ace out in 3 innings. All the team needed to do the rest of the game, is bend, but don’t break.
But Logan not being able to handle that throw home is the very definition of “break”.
Yes Logan wasn’t able to handle the throw but from the angle behind O’Hoppe, it was a pretty poor throw to say the least. Maybe an mlb average third baseman could have made a throw that was a bit more on target.
Could have swept the Phillies.
Could have won Game 1 of this series.
As much as we want to believe they can compete with the big boys, they’re not quite there yet. I hope Perry doesn’t chase the new shiny thing.
geez, won the series vs Philly! Not good enough?
Not if you continue just hovering around .500 but having big dreams of a playoff push, which would also dictate the buy or sell strategy in 10 days.
Like Montgomery said, every game matters now. It’s the difference between that 2 GB vs 4 GB on the WC standings.
Why did Anderson start the 7th??? I expect him to be done once he got out of the sixth.
he was at about 80 pitches which isn’t a critical number….except it was
its been over three months since TA won a game.
So you’re saying there’s still a chance?
Two wins in April, and then his next two will be in October. Baseball.
LOL

Just don’t buy rentals (unlike the 2023 deadline)
I’m not endorsing the message if the lol wasn’t signal enough. 🙂
But hype men gonna hype.
lol
Not like our catching prospect at the time was Cal Raleigh.
Biggest winners of that game are those on Team Sell. Ward with a good game in an epic meltdown loss.
Giffy ❤ NY too
3-4
Yessir. Ward did well to keep his trade value at an all time peak.
let’s win the next two. Why not?
The team is no better than its last loss, and no worse than its last win. The problem is that too many were starting to believe this was a team of destiny – when it’s nothing more than a group of overachievers having fun.
Don’t get too high or too low. Just roll with it.
The truth is ; with a halfway decent manager the Angels would be well over .500….
The talent is there. The leadership is not.
But Perry doesn’t want a strong manager to challenge his authority.
That’s the truth is it? I am laughing at the way you put things. It amuses me.
The talent isn’t there.
Get a clue dude. You make too big a deal about BS.
Perry can’t help himself – he won’t stop believing there’s a chance. He’s going to buy.
I’d go big, Paul Skenes, empty the farm and toss in Ward.
Pittsburgh’s new GM: “wow, we could get Dana, Klassen, Rada, Aldegheri! I can’t wait to make it official!”
Dante’s Inferno?
My fear is that he may not even be the one making the call.
