Alton Davis, P. Did Perry look at his 5-0 record or his 8.14 ERA and 1.952 whip?

If the Cubs do trade for Yoan, I think Pedro Ramirez (2B/3B with their AA team) might be a good return. The MLB.COM site rates him as their 16th best prospect and reminds me of Rengifo as a switch hitter with a bit of power and able to steal 20 or more based.

Hi everybody, Angie here. I’m new. I want to make a compilation video for my boyfriend of some of the Angels’ best moments of the first half.

Can many of you please respond here by listing the date,,score and opponent of a really great Angels win this season?

Thanks so much!

So I am confused. If he was saving money for later rounds to pick hs hitters to keep them from college why is he picking college hitters

I will be the first to predict that Chase Shores will turn into the next Paul Skenes.

The resemblance is uncanny! Except 2 inches taller!

Plus Chase has a similar delivery and four pitch mix.

He just came back from TJ this season so expect to be amazed by him next year!

I actually like Jackson fine for a later round pick. He has power. He’s semi-fast. Not a total head scratcher.

He’s a good baseball player.

Andre Ethier – another nice recent Devil OF.

WAIT! THIS is actually a guy I looked at for a “down there in the dirty rounds” pick. Holy crap. A guy I would have taken where I would have taken him. Unpossible.

I would love to get those diamonds in the rough – Howie Kendrick, Mark Trumbo, Peter Bourjos, David Fletcher, etc.

It’s just that they also had a chance to hit in the earlier rounds and did not.

You’d think the Angels would realize by now that drafting relievers just doesn’t work. A lot of MLB relievers are actually failed starters. Heck look at Detmers. Angels have drafted a lot of very successful college relievers only to see them fizzle out as soon as they get to AA. Probably because unless you have tremendous stuff, you need at least 3 pitches to get people out, which college relievers simply don’t have.

Exactly. If the Angels were drafting guys like Sawyer Hawks and Aiden Haugh right now I’d be annoyed, but at least they are starters in good college programs who, if they wash out, can be pen arms. We aren’t even doing that. Taking a reliever with your SECOND PICK?

We don’t need no stinking hitters. We will win every game 1-0 and lose every game 13-1

I honestly can’t imagine how Perry can see the state of the farm in terms of hitters/position players, and be like “We’re good!”

No secret of my disdain for Perry, he is in over his head. He comes off as someone who is smarter than all other GMs, he’s now back to revisiting his all-pitcher philosophy which bombed the 1st time.

It’s like Perry was driven mad by all the shit talk over the “pitcher draft” and has gone all Captain Ahab and is now going to sink his ship trying to prove that white whale is out there and he can be stretched into a starter.

This draft is so amazingly bad that Q Anon people are gonna start investigating if PTP is a spy for the A’s sent to deliberately destroy our farm system. It is a mind bogglingly bad draft.

This is what’s left of MLB’s top 100 that are undrafted. Probably due to signability issues. Also not sure if anyone dropped off from the draft on this list. At Round 7, might as well pull the trigger:

This all started because Arte Moreno thought he was smarter than everyone and that his team didn’t even need a GM, they’d just put an intern into the position that was so bad at his job that when the Angels mercifully took him out of his misery as GM, he did not even try to get another FO job but immediately took a DEI position withing MLB.

Righthander who had one of the best seasons by a Tiger reliever in history in 2025 … had a sidearm delivery … one of the team’s top relievers in 2024 … three-time Academic All-District by CSC … in 216.1 innings pitched over 103 appearances (two starts) and four seasons, including two at Wofford and two at Clemson, he had a 17-5 record, 22 saves and a 4.08 ERA while allowing 225 hits (.271 opponents’ batting average) and 52 walks with 197 strikeouts … fourth in Tiger history in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.35), sixth in walks per nine innings pitched (2.04) and tied for sixth in saves … had 100 strikeouts against 23 walks as a Tiger.

Another fucking reliever??? Are they going to change the rules of baseball by changing the 26 man active roster to 42 men so you can bring in a different relief pitcher for every inning???

I’m on the side that Arte doesn’t really have much to do with the draft, except for general directives (i.e. no Boras clients, etc.). The draft just doesn’t seem like something that interests him.

So that’s where the FO steps in. Unlike the trades and FA signings, I’m having a hard time believing Perry is somehow hamstrung by Arte.

This shitshow is all Perry.

Yea Arte might have an effect on the no Boras clients early in the draft but the rest of this draft is solely on Perry being a friggin idiot

So here is my “this almost makes sense” scenario albeit wild speculation.

Perry wants to take either Holliday or Kade. He goes to his boss. Arte says “no way” because of Boras. Perry pleads with him to no avail.

So Perry passive-aggressively gets back at his boss by laying turds all over the Angels draft board. Basically saying “please fire me!”

That’s all I got.

I agree, the lack of diversification is just throttling. No positional players to groom.

Look beyond Rada (international signee) and Lugo (acquired via trade), Angels have no OFs in their top 25 prospect list.

Past the first round, who is the last positional player that Perry drafted to some modicum of success?

These are the post-Round 1 positional players under Perry’s draft that I could think of:

Fontanelle
Calabrese
Chiara
Rios

I think I want to cry.

yea its really hard to fathom exactly how bad they’ve been for Top 100 draft picks. Calabrese can’t hit at all, Rios is even worse. Angels have no idea about batted ball data, and they think they can help anyone with even the slightest set of tools.

And those are projected to be in the fringes, not even a decent everyday OF’er

gitchogritchoffmypettis

I’m not even upset about Bremner and I still hate this draft SO MUCH.

Look at it this way. Right now it’s a flaming turd of a draft. BUT yes, maybe some of these guys will work out.

BUT BUT even if we are lucky that way this basically makes us the Pirates system without their #1 prospect Konnor Griffin. Even with blazing success we are a system full of solid pitching prospects with zero hitters. It’s just stupid.

Fansince1971

Well if the Angels are fortunate enough to have these guys all develop into good pitching prospects they theoretically could be traded for position players. But chances of that aren’t very good. I certainly wouldn’t bet on it.

And it’s also about 4 steps of “success” that need to fall into place in order to get what we would already have if we just threw a few Young/Turley picks into a draft.

If perry was going to fatten his treasure chest up with middle relievers, should have took an F-ing bat at No. 2.

Remember that draft when the Angels used a high pick for some guy from the southwest who had a scouting report that said, “he doesn’t even make good contact in batting practice” Well shocking he never did anything and I think he wound up shot and killed? Yea this draft is worse than that one.
