The bats were out in force early but the game lasted 9 innings and Cleveland came back late.
The big story of the day was Mike Trout, who was a monster at the plate.
Also deserving some love is Jo Adell, who absolutely smoked this ball.
Yoan Moncada and Taylor Ward kicked off the scoring with back to back solo home runs in the top of the third inning.
But, as the game wore on Cleveland kept scoring here and there and was able to pull it out late against the Angels bullpen.
Rubber game tomorrow.
Is anyone having issues with the menu covering half the screen and not closing?

Ryan Johnson on fire last night in High A… 10 Ks/1 ER in 6 innings. Seems to be slowly recovering from that idiotic bullpen detour in Anaheim.
Moore 2-4 with a double in Salt Lake…
Lineup for today – sans Mike Trout. I get the logic in giving him an off day. Besides, having Soler in the field is not ideal I suppose.

They are so guarded with injury info, hope it is just an off day.

I think it’s a case of easing him back. Or at least I hope that’s the case.
His swing looks locked in and they need a series win. Bad move imo.
Side note: The ‘Guardians’ is an absolutely awful name (along with the Washington Commanders). They should lose today for that reason alone.
Makes ’em sound like a frigging street militia.
And let’s face it : Is there anything in Cleveland worth guarding? Is there? Is there really?
they are guarding the USA against a naval attack from Canadia
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
the home of burning lakes.

I was thinking of one of those awful Marvel/DC movies.
Damn, now I have to go and actually scour the interwebz for the Soler diving “super man” highlight. Listening on the radio, it sounded like a gaff for the ages.
Did you find it ??
Not yet, but when/if I do, I will link it.

Found it here. I sure am glad that Ron Washington is a defensive wizard manager, otherwise there might have been 3 or 4 Little League home runs yesterday!
Thanks. I missed it live, and yeah, it was pretty bad.
Possibly changed the course of the game.
I only heard it on the radio as I was driving. I blurted out “Oh shit”.
I was going to say thanks for sharing, but after watching it I don’t feel very thankful for anything
Minasian once again screws up a bad roster with horrible roster management. He has two DH’s, only one of whom is healthy enough to play right field. There is no backup outfielder who can actually feel the position currently.. One of the infielders needs to be able to be versatile enough to play the outfield. We paid for that with tonight’s loss. We won’t even get into the bullpen which was supposed to be a strength, but is it usual terrible self. All in all, a very deflating and unnecessary loss.
Kingery has to be a better defender than Ole’Soler. But him in center and Jo in right
If you came down from another planet, all you would need to do is watch this one game to understand why the angels are so terrible.
Jamie Arnold’s day is done. 7 ip, 13 strikeouts, 3 ERs allowed. Florida State up 7-3 in the eighth.
Watching the Florida State and North Carolina games simultaneously right now.
Jamie Arnold with 10 Ks through six, though he’s surrendered two HRs and hasn’t exactly been unhittable, but he’s facing a good Mississippi State team.
Meanwhile, Kyson Witherspoon had a nightmare first inning against North Carolina. He would have got through the inning on nine pitches but his 3b botched a routine play, then a cascade of singles and a HR led to six unearned runs. Not the (potentially) final impression you want to leave before the draft.
Little bit lower down the draft board, Kade Anderson going tonight, 3-K’s first inning
Yeah, I’m watching LSU right now. All of the top four college arms either went tonight (Arnold, Anderson, Witherspoon) or last night (Doyle).
Kade’s actually right up there in the rankings – #3 at MLB Pipeline, #5 at ESPN, #6 at Baseball America. He has as much a shot at being the first college arm off the board as anyone else at this point. Been going to head to head with Doyle for the national K leader for the past month.
Please no Arquette, rather have David than Aiva. Don’t get the buzz, looks like Schanuel from the right side
I’d be happy with Avila –
he’s seems to be clearly the #1 college position player – is there anyone else close to him in this category?
No elite level OFs, one at SS, one pretty good hitter at C and that’s it. #10 seems likely at end of September. Only the NFL NY Jets have the same streak of losing seasons.
Remember a week ago when everyone was talking about playoffs?
The signature move of a pitiful franchise is to find new and exciting ways to inspire hope and then pull the rug once you find a way to trick fans into believing again.
Doggone it. I thought we had that game.
I’m still here.
Wash is a feelings manager
I think you mean guessing manager
Wash felt that Z was going to get it done no matter what the circumstances were
Well at least we lost by 2. I had a rant ready about Shanuel’s miss hap on the bases that cost a run. Still not sure if it was him or the 3b coach fault but someone with concrete shoes should probably just take the given base and chill.
Still stuck at 3 hrs and 14 RBIs too.
We scored two runs on HR’s after that, so it was inconsequential. In fact, in a strange way it helped us… but it was aggravating when it happened.
Pretty sure 3 runs on 2 HRs is better than 2 runs on 2 HRs but butterfly effect and all. Who knows what would have happened if he wasn’t out and not why they lost. I like Shanuel a lot but the lead feet can be a bit frustrating is all
You can’t assume those HR’s would have even happened if Schanuel is on third. First off, the pitcher would be pitching differently. This is a logical mistake people make all the time when discussing events in a game.
Which also means if Schanuel in on 3rd, we could’ve score 5 instead of 2.
Yeah, we could have scored 10 or we could have scored 0.
Hence the butterfly effect acknowledgment.
This was a team effort lose. Trouty had very good game with Adell and Ward and Moncada chipping in to make a game out of it. Trout came this close to one more hit blasting a shot at Ramirez. Just a thought here, Trout in RF and Adell in CF with Soler at DH. Actually, anything that keeps Soler out of the OF.
I’m really hoping that Trout embraces the DH role. Become David Ortiz.
I hope O’ Hoppe can play 1B just like Scott Hatteberg did for the A’s. At some point a 1B has to hit a HR or 2b with RISP.😡😡😡
Wash’s decision to roll with Hendricks for as long as possible makes sense given the dearth of options in the BP.
Win tomorrow and we get a series win.
Trout looking good.
No it doesn’t. He ended up gong with Nerris anyways but only let him pitch to one batter. Nerris could have take an inning from Hendricks.
You can’t assume that Nerris will pitch a clean inning based on getting one out.
This BP has numerous crappy parts. Including Nerris.
You weren’t talking about quality, you were talking about the bullpen being tired and overused…. I only pointed out that it would not have been unrealistic for Nerris to pitch one inning.
I personally think that Nerris for 1 or 1.33 innings would have been better than a tired Hendricks whom Cleveland had a good look at over 5 innings. There is no way of knowing now who is right…
I agree that he might as well have run Nerris out for the 7th since he’d only pitched to one guy in the 6th.
My main point is that Wash’s decision to try & squeeze 6 innings out of Kyle makes sense. As mediocre as Hendricks and our starters are, every out they can get to minimize exposing our bad BP, the better.
He still excited the game up 5-4.
Came down to good team beat no so good team, not the umps. Tomorrow.
