The Angels at least got an honorable mention in this article about most promising young cores. The usual negativity was raised about Schanuel. Another member of that young core, Ben Joyce, was placed on the 60 day injured list last Friday. We get Shaun Anderson instead.
Evan Longoria will sign a one day contract with the Rays so he can retire as one of them. A Rafael Devers trade is not far fetched according to Ken Rosenthal. Can he pitch? He’s a Player of the Week. Fangraphs quoted chief baseball officer Craig Breslow as saying “I think it’s No. 1, being honest and open with communication.” while pointing out in elaborate detail that Breslow and Alex Cora have been anything but honest and open in conversations about and with Rafael Devers.
The White Sox just designated infielder Gage Workman for assignment. He is a recently injured Rule 5 guy. It should be interesting to see how this plays out. Eddie Rosario cleared waivers and elected free agency. The Pirates just signed pitcher Beau Burrows, late of los Tecos de los Dos Laredos, to a minor league deal.
Lance McCullers Jr. had a rough start against the Reds on Saturday and death threats were made against his family on social media. Stay classy, Houston.
The Diamondbacks are bringing up top prospect Jordan Lawler. They reinstated Kendall Graveman from the injured list and designated Garrett Hampson and Jose Castillo for assignment. Brandon Bielak had season ending shoulder surgery.
The Dodgers acquired outfielder Steward Berroa from the Blue Jays for cash considerations.

Gawd, How I dislike Manfraud. While I may disagree with the Shoeless Joe Jackson outcome, I was not there in 1920 for the debates that probably took place, but you have to respect that Landis knew what he was doing. I was around for Pete Rose gambling and his lying and while it may be unpopular with many that he be banned, he broke the rules. So does that mean when Bonds, Sheffield, Clemens, Sosa and McGwire pass on they too enter the HOF? Of course it does and that is wrong for a commissioner today to change what a former Commish applied years ago. In today’s world we apply today’s standards whether right or wrong to the standards used in the past and think that is right. Statues torn down, Roe vs Wade changed, and Baseball wanting to say that the sport of Baseball, in it’s past, they got it wrong. Manfred is the worst thing to happen to MLB, well, since Selig, and the two of them are complete A**holes.
If the angels average 10 ks a game, that’s only 5.2 outs left to score runs and get hits. That isn’t going to lead to a bunch of wins.
help me with the math here. Are you saying we have 15.2 outs per game and not 27? Oh…you mean 5 2/3 innings left. I got it. ok….but if we hit 10 line drive outs per game we’d have the same amount of outs left.
I do agree that not striking out gives us a better chance of getting base runners or moving baserunners over…if we have other baserunners.
Other than a DP, or a triple play, a strikeout is the worst possible out.
My bad, I worded that wrong. I’d be ok with anything but strike outs. Atleast line drives have a chance to move a runner or maybe an error happens, but These angel Strike outs look real bad.
The #Angels have transferred the rehab assignment of RHP Sam Bachman to Triple-A @SaltLakeBees.
RHP Robert Stephenson is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Low-A @66ersBaseball tonight.

Definitely nervous about Joyce’s shoulder, but let’s play make believe for a second.
Joyce
Zeferjahn
Stephenson
Fermin
Bachman
Now that’s a premium ⛽️ bullpen.
Yes, all flamethrowers….with a combined ERA north of 4.5 and a WHiP above 1.5
I’m incredibly bored of the velo obsession. Far more of those types fail than succeed and the one’s that show promise are oft-injured. I’m generalizing but. you get my point.
Our best pitcher is Tyler Anderson.
I disagree. There’s a reason why the vast majority of elite pitchers have high velo.
Tyler Anderson is cool tho
I think counting on Joyce is a Fools Errand until proven otherwise. Dude can’t pitch more than 20
innings before imploding.
Bachman and Stephanson too. Pineapple is high on hopeium with this group until they prove themselves. I too hope they all come on strong, ditto for Trouty and everyone else.
Wash is giving us the good lineup tonight.
Neto SS
Schanuel 1B
Moncada 3B
Soler DH
Ward LF
O’Hoppe C
Rengifo 2B
Adell RF
Paris CF
Soriano
BTW, Sasaki not doing so well with the Blew Crue-That’s something to smile about.
Pete Rose is back on the menu boys!
I would disagree with this statement from Manfraud.
“Moreover, it is hard to conceive of a penalty that has more deterrent effect than one that lasts a lifetime with no reprieve”
I can conceive of one and it wasn’t hard to think of it. How about never ever? The way it was yesterday.
didnt it last a lifetime?
yes. But I would have preferred “the Earth’s lifetime”
Just FYI people-I am neutral on Rose’s induction into the HoF. I just have always posited that MLB was going to allow him to go in posthumously. I bet Petey Jr. might have a flambé acceptance speech already in the making.
Shoeless Joe though, I think he should go in the HoF ASAP-That was no sandbag effort on his part.
Just because he’s eligible doesn’t mean he’s getting in first ballot.
Might have to do with the fact you have to sign up to a gambling app to watch your favorite team…. Just spit ballin here
So you can tell the world the rules don’t apply to you because you are a great player with breathtaking skills which means your shit don’t stink. Then, give the finger to everyone by denying it for 20 years, suddenly giving a half-admission when mortality starts to look closer than farther away, while all the time whining about how you are so put upon by “unfairness” because you got caught flaunting the rules.
I’m sure more than 25% of the HoF voters agree with you.
Assuming it’s the veterans committee or whatever it’s called, with 16 members, Jackson and Rose will be linked. The voters won’t want to look like hypocrites by voting in one but not the other
Getting primed for another injury
https://x.com/AngelsMiLB/status/1922386000724079040
I’m cautiously optimistic. His arm swing looks different, doesnt throw from his ear as much. Little less herky jerky as a result too.
Bachman is a non-factor. He’ll be pitching for the Rockies before we know it
Get Dr. Nick ready for when Sam’s arm explodes
https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/breaking-news/article/mlb-removes-pete-rose-shoeless-joe-jackson-from-ineligible-list-in-move-that-can-pave-way-for-hall-of-fame-201601645.html
I was so incensed that I wrote a rant and accidentally lost it. The short version: bad idea. Going to the old timers group of 16 so 12 LaRussa types can decide and if Rose gets in his kids can celebrate. I’m more ok with Jackson. How about Jackson can get in and Rose’s family has to wait another 60 years?
Ok, looked it up. Shoeless Joe died 74 years ago. Put him on the ballot now. I’d prefer if it were the regular ballot with hundreds of voters. Make Rose eligible in 2098 so his family has to wait as long as Jackson’s
Love sports and Baseball. Love movies but couldn’t care less about the actors that make them. Not that into HOF or the Oscars.
But, Rose should be in the degenerate wing, more bothered by the Roiders. With a Giant ❌ ‼️ ☑️ next to his name. Plainly explaining what he did. I’d say a lot of low-character people are in all sports HOF’s and are celebrated, for equally bad things.
Good. This is good. Shoeless Joe first baby.
REC for Shoeless Joe.
Revisionist history at it’s worst. Rose knew beyond a shadow of doubt what would happen if he were caught. Then got caught and was found to be in deep with exactly the type of people who seek to compromise the game. Decisions have consequences and I hope the Vets Committee sees it that way. Great hitter but a complete scumbag if you read the details.
Played with the simulator just for kicks:
Red Sox receive: Nolan Schanuel
Angels receive: Rafael Devers, Marcelo Mayer, Miguel Bleis, Round A Competitive Balance Pick, $20 million in cash.
Devers can mash, Mayer is an absolute stud, Bleis is a lottery ticket, and the extra draft pick is 33rd overall.
I highly doubt either side would entertain this idea, but honestly I’d take it.
So Devers clanks at 1B and loosens Moncada’s car brakes?
Frankly, the BoSox would probably want something like Silent C, another young pitcher and Lugo-Also I wouldn’t expect much cash from Boston.
But if you can make that trade happen, get on the phone please Mr. Joiner.
No one will take Devers without getting a significant portion paid for.
hence he will stay on Bahhhston.
My guess is that if they were to do something like this, it would be Schanuel for Devers and cash with no prospects involved. I don’t think it would happen though because the Red Sox don’t want to limit their chances for this year
That contract is way underwater for a DH/1B guy. Boston would have to sweeten the pot to get somebody to take it.
Damn. Yeah, I’d do that. I mean, Devers is annoying as fk, but he mashes, Marcelo + Neto + Logan makes me happy and the draft pick… sure…
As long as we realize Boston inflates hitter stats and Devers would bat .255 or so in Anaheim but would still hit HRs
Is this JJ or P12 ????
There’s no chance Boston would do that lol
I wonder if Yankee fans are pissed that Oswaldo Cabrera broke his ankle and they put him on the ten day injured list…. clearly bullshit.
why is it bullshit?
He’s not coming back from a broken ankle in ten days.
that’s not really how that works. I understand what your thinking, but the logic is off. By that same standard, the Angels should place Trout on the 60 day because he wouldn’t be back in 10 days.
He could be back in 6 weeks. That’s roughly 40-45 days. They can always see how he is doing in 2-3 weeks and place him on the 60 then ( a la Ben Joyce). It’s a pretty common practice. If he had a torn ACL or Achilles, sure.
Trout’s coming back from a broken knee in 12 days.
Why do we care what MFY fans think?
Cause Yankees.
I could not say it enough last season (and the seasons prior) that they needed to trade Rengifo. Yeah, I have a personal vendetta against him, but mostly I despised his lackadaisical defense.
Now that he isn’t hitting either, his value has plummeted, not that Perry would have actually have received anything of value for him. Maybe he’ll get warm before the trade deadline and the Halos can get some bottles of car wax for him.
Pederson and the ghost of Ross Stripling.
Personal vendetta? Like Marine Layer and the handsome and wealthy Rendon? Is Rengifo’s ex-wife your sister? Spill the tea. Drink the pink wine.
I read somewhere about the possibility of domestic abuse, but I can’t find that article, so I don’t bring that up anymore. Classless act trying to defraud his ex. That’s not the mentor I want for a youth movement.
I heard from voices inside my brain that his ex wife was the one committing the domestic abuse.
that’s what we are basing things on nowadays? Damn
Yeah. I think Rengifo might have had rumors. I know he just strait up abandoned his pregers wife…. he’s a real gem of a guy.
He got his dad thrown in jail in the bargain.
One of my best buds is the MLB replay guy for some Halos games, and he goes early before games and sets up wires and chords and whatever. Last season Rengifo approached him to chat in Spanish, but my buddy doesn’t speak any even though his last name is Ramirez. Rengifo even said “but your name is Ramirez?” Ever since my buddy told me this story, I’ve had a soft spot for Rengifo, picturing his confusion at my white-washed Mexican friend.
That’s excellent.
LMAOOOO
SL Bee Dana in 3rd with 3.03 era.
https://x.com/tschulmanreport/status/1922260538161008996
The league has a whopping six qualified starters with an ERA under 4.00. And that list has a bunch of names who play at sea level. Fun league.
I looked around the farm a bit yesterday; besides Dana, I see Nelson Rada, and the rest, is nada.
No more Connor Brogdon’s that we can call up to save us?
The Owls of the Two Laredos have a cool hat. So do the Pirates. So Burrows is OK on the hat game at least….
Anyone still advocating for Paris at leadoff? Haha
Poor kid is one more 0-4 game away from dropping below .200.
All that being said, we might as well keep running him out there, just as we’ve been doing with Jo Adell. This is the perfect season for projects getting looooong looks.
Speaking of sub .200 hitters, the latest Trout injury is seemingly taking it’s predictable course from “he’s playing tomorrow”, to “brief 10 day IL” to cryptic language like “feeling better but, not quite ready” blah, blah, blah.
The unofficial odds of seeing him play this week against SD are -1000 and perhaps -750 versus the doyers. Sigh.
Paris is playing over Adell in CF because of defense, which Paris deserves a lot of credit for btw, but I don’t like how Wash is starting to let Adell rot on the bench.
I’m sure Trout is rushing himself back for the LAD series. If trAdition has its way, it will be the final series Trout plays in 2025.
Paris defense has been subpar
Statistically he’s been better than Jo in CF
That’s not saying much. I’d move on from ward and put rada in cf and adell in LF next year.
theres a “next year” for adell?
Unless lugo goes off, the angels don’t really have the depth at OF to not keep adell for another year.
Cost controlled 4/5th OFer.
Oh man. I hope not
Yes, with the Rockies
Rada really needs time to develop in AA. Kid is only 19.
If we have to take some lumps this year to get prospects ready to succeed at the MLB level when they arrive, I’m all for it.
Trout returns. Trout plays a couple games on TV. Trout hurts himself even worse while eating a sandwich. Trout makes grit boys happy by declaring he’s unhappy so no one confuses him with the players who love being injured. Trout goes and plays with his kids and millions of dollars. Go Eagles.
Sigh.
I don’t think Trout will ever come back. I expect an emotional press conference where he announces his retirement
I believe that Tim Salmon retired due to a similar bone on bone dynamic in his knees. The meniscus surgery is at best a stopgap measure especially for someone who runs so heavily.
Perhaps the DH thing plays, but he aggravated it trying to beat out an infield hit.
Can’t we all agree? They both suck.
Placed my wager at Ippei/Betts.com $10,000,000 Ippei Bucks he does not see the field in SD….betting the same for the LA series. Running on an anti-gravity treadmill for the first time, is a step in a much longer recovery. Doesn’t scream of an almost ready and coming back soon.
I think I’m seeing Paris not overly bothered (no negative body language) by his alarming K rate. Not in a, I don’t give a shit or unawareness in the problem, but I have confidence in my approach, and I’m figuring this shit out and will get better….maybe that’s just the Hopium, lots of coffee and too many Zyn’s the morning after a great win.
Yeah. A bone bruise in your knee joint? Doesn’t sound like a ten day affair to me. And I still want to know. How does that happen if you have any cartilage in your knee? That’s what that shit’s there for.
I played over a 1,000 games in the outfield between high school, college, ML and unaffiliated ball and I while I need the exercise, I never run anymore. Whatever combination of Meniscus and Cartilage remaining is fine if I don’t push it, but if I do, I know it immediately.
Trout is an elite athlete who by all accounts, worked as hard as anybody. Unfortunately we all have a finite amount of weightlifting, stress, sprints and reps within us, but it’s hard to know your limits until your body tells you no more.
BTW: Technically, Meniscus is cartilage but there is also a cartilage on the bottom of the femur that they also call cartilage.
sheesh, I didn’t know you balled like that PC 🫡
I had the kind of a talent that could pay hundreds of dollars lol
LOL, nice.
I caught a lot in my career and played a lot @ 2B and corner OFs, but my knees are okay as I listened to Bob Boone on how to stretch and do non-baseball activity (Not Karate like Bonnie) like swimming and only running on grass during the off-season. Plus I managed my weight very well all the way up to my final season.
Of course, since my playing days, I’m not managing so well……
*Boonie
Always a challenge.
Hell yeah. PC is like Jake Taylor from Major League but with his shit together.
Just don’t ask my wife. Whenever I’m spouting off about guys who seemingly always swing too hard and try to hit 12 run homers in a three run game, she hits my pause button. She then gently reminds me that I was that guy.
Yes, but you’re much more charismatic.
I need an anti-gravity field here at work….
Good stuff. If Adell gets the better part of a “Fourth Turning” to figure it out, I’m 100%
OK with Paris Is Burning getting 500 AB’s in 2025.
Exactly. It was a total “Internet Expert Moron” move to start declaring Ron Washington an idiot who can’t manage a line up at the very beginning of the season because he won’t deploy the mighty Kyreeen Paris the way we thought he should. Complete with lame excuses like “buh duh Doyers do it” like it’s the same situation.
But this is the perfect season to let him, Schanuel and Adell, and eventually some other guys like Lugo, Kavadas, or who ever does well in MiLB by August have a good long run of failing and hopefully developing for us all to bitch about.
Trout. I just don’t care anymore. It’s like when one of my junkie friends declares they are cleaning up. I sure hope they do. I’m not really gonna even think about it though cause I’m over worrying about it. I care more about not drafting Doyle with the second pick at this point.
Haha, yes. Re: Wash, there isn’t a manager on this planet or the next that would turn this squad into a winner. My critique of him 2 weeks ago was the RIDICULOUS statement that “Trout is playing” tomorrow or whatever the heck he said.
Speaking of 1 Day contacts

LOL, that leer.
May 12th top prospect performance goes to 2024 5th round pick, Dylan Jordan –
4 innings
0 earned runs
2 hits
2 strikeouts
On the season-
8 innings
0 ERA
0.63 WHIP
Wonder how long Joswa Lugo stays in Arizona Rookie Ball? This kid is good!
30 PA
.433 / .433 / .633
Checking in on Nelson Rada –
127 PA
.279 / .392 / .327
10 stolen bases (71.4% success rate)
No power whatsoever, but good gawd look at that OBP. Paris and Adell are keeping CF warm (or cold lol) for Rada.
Rada’s never gonna be a power hitter and I don’t care. Willie Wilson had five seasons with a WAR over 4 and never hit more than 9 home runs. Willie McGee had three. He’s such a good center fielder, we can get home runs elsewhere. Just make good contact and get on base my young friend.
Joswa is desperate to get to San Bernardino before the chance to play in that fine city slips away. He’s gonna be fun to watch develop.
Jordan early returns exciting.
Taylor Blake Ward compared Rada to Denard Span and I just can’t shake that comparison.
Span retired with a .281/374/.397 slash line and played solid defense into his early 30s. He was good for about 3.5 WAR per year until he hit 31 and started to slow down a bit.
Rada is only 19 so if the team lets him develop this year at AA and gives him a taste of AAA next year, he’d still only be 21 by the time he made it to MLB.
Soriano vs. Cease should be electric. I want to see Sori begin to up both his slider and splitter usage.
Side note– I really like Jose Fermin. He’s starting to solidify the 7th inning and heaven knows we need that lol.
Yeah. Fermin may join Zeferjahn in the “solid random pick up” category.
BTW-I didn’t like Paris’ expression in the dugout. He seemed disconnected in the ninth, especially when the grand slam cleared the fence. Yes, he is a young player and was pulled for a PH, but even the pitchers in the dugout were ecstatic, he was just…..meh.
Anyone catch that?
Yea. Not reading too much into it, but I caught it too
Yeah, I saw that too. It was weird. Plus, he is still swinging out of his shoes on every pitch. Someone needs to talk to him about that…. Hmmm. Maaaybe, someone like the hitting coach ???
Do you think our hitting coaches are giving Paris the silent treatment? They can’t control what Paris does in the batters box
He’s a rookie. As such I doubt he would ignore suggestions or advice if given.
Not if he likes that good MLB minimum wage and $400ish a day per diem.
I think it’s likely that they have seen it, hell he sees it on his own, and they have talked about it. And yet he keeps doing it because it’s hard to stop, or he vapor locks because MLB is hard, or he’s just failing. But they won’t hold him accountable and bench him, which is fine cause why mess with him, let him play and learn. I wonder if he looks different in BP?
Or, obviously, the hitting coach just hasn’t brought it up over the last few weeks.
I’m pretty sure you’re right. We can all see Paris swinging like a third grader, but the entire Angels video staff and coaching staff can’t. And if they have noticed it, they just shrugged their shoulders and cracked open another bottle of Yoo-hoo. They have all the analysis, but Washington doesn’t let Paris see it because Wash hates data. Clearly they are stupid. There is no possible way they have talked to Kyreeeen about this and he’s not doing what they tell him to do. That just doesn’t happen.
I missed that.. just commented above I thought his body language looked pretty good while K’ing at an alarming rate. But I agree with Banned, just put him in the lineup and see if he gets it. No better time than 2025 for that with this organization.
Yep, let the kids (mis)play.
Nice game, nice to see Ward starting to heat up?
Let’s make things hard tonight for the Friars.
Go Halos!
Let the kids play!
The Devers article feels like the team is floating up a trial balloon to see if they can garner any phone calls from other teams about a possible Devers trade.
I hope Minasian doesn’t bite.
Devers would still end up at 1B.
Maybe, but Devers is sure showing that he’ll be quite an ass
etto his new team.I think they are also seeing if SAWKS NAYSHUN will have a cow if they bench or trade him at some point and eat a bunch of his money. The nation has been kind of touchy about how the Sox, until Bregman, had a lot of money but weren’t really spending…. and they may get pissy about Dever’s money and how the FO may get cheap if he becomes an Angels type dead weight.
