Angels Pitching N/A 14-3 Loss in Houston

The Angels are in Houston, and it is the perfect time for this. Houston is off to a slow start, the Angels are on fire, and you miss both of Houston’s best pitchers. So how does Jack Kochanowicz do? He goes 4 and 2/3 innings giving up 6 (3 while on the mound) runs on 6 hits striking out 1 and walking 3. Yeesh. Not good. Not at all. And Daniels giving up that Grand Slam really did not help at all.

But this was the 2025 Angels. They don’t go down quietly. Not with this offense. Paris stayed hot. Trout hit a home run again. And… Yeah. Not this time. Too big of a deficit. Too little game left. Turn the page. Get ready for the next day. You can

Highlighted Recap

Houston got the first run on a sac fly in the 2nd.

1-0 Trashos

But hey, a nice catch by Ward to end that inning

Yay

And Mike Trout hit a solo shot in the 4th to tie the game!

1-1

And then took the lead in the top of the 5th!

2-1 Angels

Lowlighted Recap

Everything was looking good. And then, with 2 outs in the 5th, things just… Unraveled. Jack gave up 2 runs. And then Daniels came in to stop the fire. Instead he gave up a grand slam.

7-2 Trashos

Oh no. Yeah. That was very bad but this is a small park. There was still time to come back. As long as the bullpen didn’t allow any more runs.

So… It really sucked when Darrell-Hicks made his MLB debut and give up 4 runs in the 6th. You don’t need to see that. It was now 11-2 in the 7th and things were bleak. Time to turn the page, focus on the next 2 games of the series.

But at least the Angels scored again to make it 11-3 on an infield hit by Soler. Yay~

And Houston scored 3 more right after. 14-3 Houston.

Ugh. Angels lose. Turn page. Let’s forget about this game.

Upcoming

2 more games in Houston, no Monday game. And then 3 up the road against Texas.

So only “sort of” Angels related but my son played Beckham Trout’s team today in LL. We went from pitch coach to the machine today. Big jump for the kiddos

I like the team winning 2 games every series, but these first game blowouts are hard on the old ticker.

Unfortunately, they are not gonna win 2 games this series. In fact, this is the series where Lucy pulls the football out. We get SWEPT and many people will begin to reevaluate their early season optimism.

Altuve and Yordan Alvarez hit HRs and Astros win again today.

I call BS on that. Canning had an okay game to start the season against a struggling Astros team, pitched 4 good innings against Toronto, and kind of sucked against the As his last start (Game Score of 38). Canning may turn it around with the Mets, but I don’t think he has yet.

In 7 innings of relief with the Braves over 3 games he has walked 7 batters. So you know it’s coming.

But only a 1.364 WHIP which would be third best of all OF our relievers to date behind Kenley Jansen ( 1.00) and Ryan Zeferjahn ( 1.091)

Zach Neto is playing SS tonight. This is the first time in his rehab assignment he’s played SS on back-to-back days. He played 6 innings last night. The most he’s played is 7.

Ron Washington says he needs to play 9 innings at SS on back-to-bac

Even then, it’s not like playing 6 in a row. I think Anderson will be giving him breaks for a while.

So Neto has a restriction on how many tosses he has to make in a given night or innings played? Certainly cannot be an inning thing so not sure how the 9-inning benchmark comes into play here. No matter, it will be great to have him back. For me, Anderson has been terrible on both sides of the ball. Did not look good last night.

It is an inning thing. Someone posts all of his defensive chances each time hes been at shortstop and most nights he makes very little throws

Well I dont think it matters because right now hes DHing not sure why ( maybe because it’s a day game after a night game?) so at this rate it may not be until the team returns home next Friday before Zach gets activated.

Why would they activate him before he can actually play every day or at least most days? It could be a few weeks.

I’m assuming it’s more harnessing the amount of throws he has to make over a short recovery period than swings in the batters box. I dunno. I get it if they are being cautious.

Kept getting notifications about the score.

Not a happy jazz director while counting off tunes last night.

Game was closer than the score if you remove 2 players who should not be on the roster, McDaniels and Hicks. Let’s get the next one.

Play the kids. We will now get a glimpse into their mental maturity and competitive spirit.

People need to chill on the Patty O’Neil hate. Is he a good play by play guy? No. Does Gubie want to stab him every time he talks over him? Yes. But he’s a try hard and I legit feel that he wants the Halos to be good. Am I delusional? Are these tariffs gonna kick in?
