How the Top NCAA Prospects Week 1

Now that the first weekend of College Baseball is behind us, I’d like to inform everyone about how some of the top prospects performed during their first few games.

Starting with Texas A&M’s Center Fielder Jace LaViolette. Friday for the number 1 ranked guy in the Nation didn’t go quite how he wanted it to, starting the year going 0-3 on Friday. But that’s just one game. Jace bounced back on Saturday going 2-4 with 2 HRs, 5 RBI along with 1 BB. Building off of Saturday’s performance he backed it up again on Sunday. Going 1-3, with 1 HR and 2 BBs. Jace had a solid first weekend starting the year hitting .300 along with 7 RBIs. I’m excited to see how his season goes, so stay tuned.

Moving on to our second star of the weekend, Jamie Arnold out of Florida State University. Jamie had an excellent outing Friday and to my surprise, he threw a lot more innings than I thought he would have. His stat line of the weekend. 6IP, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 BB, and 8 strikeouts. To me, two things are eye-opening, and in a good way. Jamie had 8 strikeouts through 6 innings which would be 12 K/9 and gave up 0 free bases. He should get even better as the season goes on and make sure to keep your eye on him.

Now with one of the most electric pitchers in all of College Baseball, UC Santa Barbara’s Tyler Bremner. Bremner was held short in his first outing, and for good reason. There should be no rush in getting him innings and letting his arm catch up and get in mid season shape will be key to UCSB’s success. Tyler’s final stat line was 3IP, No hits, No walks, no runs, 1HBP and 2K’s in a Gaucho victory. Nothing much to cover here except that he will start to get more and more innings and get more and more impressive.

Also really impressive for UCSB is Jackson Flora. The scouts were there for Bremner but Flora is making his case to also be a first rounder. He might be a name to keep an eye on for the second round pick.

Stay tuned for weekly updates on some of the best players in the country.

Love how easy Arnold’s delivery is. He’s something else.

I could see Holliday falling this spring without more consistent contact – he’s beginning to really divide scouts.

Dean Curley had quite the start: 10 Rs, 7 RBIs, 3 HRs, only 1 K vs 5 BBs in 17 PAs. He’s already a first round target, but he’s going to get top ten consideration soon if he keeps this up. Tennessee just owned the competition this week.

Sounds like he got the “don’t let him beat us” approach.

One week in and the top of the board looks solid. I’m curious about guys who play their way into the first round, as well.

Jackson Flora looked incredible on Saturday.

Trent Caraway and the entire Oregon State offense looked great over the weekend.

My guy Murf Gray hit a ball that might not have landed over the weekend.

I’m kind of to the point where I know we’ll get a stud at #2 and am looking at 47. Would kill for a competitive balance pick through a trade.
