LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Zip-a-Dee-Doo-DAH

Morning Angels fans. Have links.

Angels News

Got more info on that Kikuchi deal. 21M each next 3 years. Plus a trainer, an interpreter, and plane tickets?

With him still at the top of the rotation, how does the ZIPS projections look? Zips is pretty conservative, yet they expect this team to hit like 2024 Boston or Detroit and pitch like 2024 Oakland,

This is using FWAR

Around Baseball

Chapman is now a Red Sox. Very few closers have saves for both teams. And none has made as much money as he has in his career.

Kim is being posted at 9 AM PST. Because that is the timezone that matters. He would be a great fit in the IF especially when Rendon gets hurt again.

Padres are getting pretty popular. They have been top 5 in attendance the last 4 seasons. Pretty big jump from 20th in 2012. Winning matters.

The Royals are stuck with FanDuel. ONE OF US. ONE OF US. It sucks for their fans, but, well, it could be worse.

NL ROY Paul Skenes joins Lt. Dan to raise 100,000 dollars through the Gary Sinise Foundation. Not bad kid…

Farhan Zaidi may go back to the Dodgers. The executive left LA to be the GM of SF until he got fired a few weeks ago.

i know what Drysdale and Gibson would do when the Golden At Bat came up to the plate:

he’d be put on his Golden Ass immediately

Hey Rex. Is it OK for me to use your pictures on our Bluesky posts, as long as I give the usual credit?

I’m trying to understand the Crochet trade rumors. Why would the White Sox trade him? Is it that he’s disgruntled with how bad the team sucked and how they handled his innings usage and he just wants out?

Crochet will be a free agent in 2 seasons. The White Sox will still be bad in 2 seasons.

However, 2 full seasons of Crochet will be quite valuable on the trade market. More valuable than 1 full season of Crochet.

So now is the best time to trade him. Simple market dynamics, not feelings involved.

And the “Feelings” are, sooner than later the Doyers will throw a bunch of overrated minor leaguers to land him, and extend him to a huge deferred contract.

Just like we should be trading our guys but won’t because Arte is convinced we’re going to be competitive.

The White Sox are doing what the Angels should have done with Ohtani in 2021 or 2022.

Today would be an incredible day to sign Shane Bieber.

Can you feel the Burnes!?

Not sure it is perfect for the Angels timeline but signing a guy like Burnes would convince me this team has a shot at relevance. He is the only arm I would be willing to cough up a compensation pick for. Burnes is a No.1 and an anchor on any pitching staff. The last anchor the Angels had was…Weaver? I see Burnes landing in SF or the AL East.

If they signed Burnes and addressed 1st and 3rd base, then they would be relevant. Otherwise it’s all window dressing.

If they signed Burnes and addressed 1B and 3B…. they would still finish behind the Astros and Rangers…. and maybe the Mariners

I actually don’t think so depending on the players but like you’ve been saying, they have so many things to address, they can’t do it in one year and they need to address some of it with young cheap players which hasn’t happened yet and will take some time.

Signing the Bakersfield boy to lead our rotation for the next 6 or 7 years would be a great move IF it comes with other moves.

If the off season is spent signing Burnes and Kikuchi but not improving the offense or bullpen much, that will be trAdition.

Strong pitching is a huge start. I remember plopping down $50 on the 2010 Giants 20-1 shot to win the WS based on their staff alone, could not hit a lick.

On the Padres’ fan support: Also helps when the only other remaining major sports team high-tails it for LA.

You know something, I can’t wrap my head around the idea of 1 billion dollars owed through 2046 to players who played a long time ago. Should there be a cap on deffered monies? Bobby Bonilla must be paid off by now, right? 😊

He’s collecting through 2035.

The value of these contracts in future dollars is not what they are today. In the “contract structuring chess”, the Dodgers are 10 moves ahead of everyone else.

Well, of that deferred money, $680MM goes to one dude.

Notice how worry free you feel that the Angels should sign a bigger name than what we have added up until now, the team sucks and in one winter that is not going to change. It would be kool to trade for Arenado with some sluggo’s though.

Good morning to you all. Everyday it’s where will Soto sign? Does the average fan give a hoot that the Mets are bidding against themselves, noooooo. I still believe that the ghost runner should only show up in the twelfth inning and on. Bigger bases-BS. Teach reading pitchers and foot work and leading off. Clock helped the game a lot in my opinion. 2 throws to 1b with runner on will help the game’s pitchers learn to throw to 1b with slicker moves. Golden bat rule is a deal breaker, enough rule changes please.

After leaving during the 16th inning of a game that lasted 20, I can support the ghost runner rule. That golden bat rule sounds like a marketing ploy rather than a way to increase fan enjoyment.

I’m with you. I understand why the ghost runner is there, but wait till the 12th.

If it’s really for safety reasons, as I believe Manfraud claimed, then return the bases to 12 inches, and add a secondary runthrough base at first.

I’d still like the running game to come back a little more. I love the speed and strategy that used to be small ball.

I like the ghost runner, but I would be OK with waiting a couple of innings.

I’d like to see the softball style base at first base where there’s a base outside the baseline for the runner. Dudes at first are huge and I’m surprised there aren’t more injuries on that play. The outside the line base is only used for running to first after a hit, so it doesn’t impact any other aspects of the game.
