Relentless Runs Postgame

Doug Eddings is umpiring second base tonight. There will be review plays on stolen bases again, I predict. OK, so I was wrong.

Inning #1

The Rays went three up three down. Anthony Rendon singled on the ground to left on the second pitch he saw. Mickey Moniak flied out to the shortstop in shallow right center. Mike Trout tripled, easily scoring Rendon. 1-0 Angels.

Taylor Ward grounded one through to left field for an RBI single. 2-0 Angels.

Taylor Ward then proceeded to steal second base. Miguel Sano flied out without advancing Ward. Brandon Drury struck out looking.

Inning #2

Curtis Mead got a two out single for the Rays. Jose Siri flied out to Moniak to end the top of the second inning. Luis Rengifo flied out to center. Logan O’Hoppe grounded out to short. Zach Neto struck out swinging. This was definitely not as fun as the first inning.

Inning # 3

Anderson retired the Rays in order again. He had 34 pitches at this point. Anthony Rendon flied out to the warning track in center field. Mickey Moniak grounded out to first. Mike Trout hit his fifth homer of the season to center field. 3-0 Angels.

Taylor Ward followed that up with a line drive base hit to center. Ward took second on a wild pitch. Unfortunately, Miguel Sano struck out swinging to end the inning.

Inning#4

Harold Ramirez flied out but Randy Arozarena walked. Isaac Paredes doubled to put Rays at second and third with one out. Amed Rosario lined out to first. Curtis Mead then hit a fly ball out to Mike Trout to end the threat. The Angels went three up three down in this inning. Nothing to see here. Move on.

Inning #5

Jose Siri struck out but Jose Caballero singled. He tried to steal second but was gunned down by Logan O’Hoppe. Rene Pinto then struck out. Zach Neto grounded out but Anthony Rendon got another single. Mickey Moniak doubled to put men at second and third with one out. Mike Trout grounded out this time. Taylor Ward singled to drive in both Anthony Rendon and Mickey Moniak. 5-0 Angels.

Miguel Sano singled to send Ward to second. Brandon Drury lined out to end the inning.

Inning #6

Tyler Anderson again retired the Rays in order. He was up to 77 pitches at this point. The Angels were in a position to avoid the dreaded middle inning guys. Jacob Waguespack came in to replace Zach Eflin and Luis Rengifo drew a walk. Logan O’Hoppe struck out but Rengifo stole second base. Zach Neto also walked. At this point there were men on first and second with one out. Anthony Rendon popped out to the second baseman and the infield fly rule was applied. Mickey Moniak was batting when a wild pitch advanced Rengifo to third. Unfortunately, Moniak struck out.

Inning #7

Three up three down for the Rays. Seventh inning stretch, Yo! Mike Trout then came up and grounded out to short. Taylor Ward grounded out to second. Miguel Sano walked. At this point Drury and O’Hoppe were the only two guys who hadn’t reached base safely. Drury stepped up and singled Sano over to second. Luis Rengifo singled to right to score Sano and send Drury to third. 6-0 Angels.

Logan O’Hoppe grounded out to end the inning.

Inning #8

Jose Siri singled to Ward whereupon Adam Cimber came in to replace Tyler Anderson. He got Jose Caballero to ground into a double play. Unfortunately, Rene Pinto singled to right to keep the inning alive. Yandy Diaz grounded into a force out to end the top of the eighth inning. Zach Neto grounded out. Anthony Rendon hit a ground rule double and the hits just keep on coming. Mickey Moniak drove in Rendon with a single to right. 7-0 Angels.

Mike Trout singled as well, but Mickey Moniak was out at third on the throw. Taylor Ward grounded out to end the inning.

Inning #9

Newly called up Hunter Strickland came in to replace Adam Cimber on the mound. This was not a save situation. Harold Ramirez singled to left. Randy Arozarena also singled to left driving Ramirez to third. Isaac Paredes grounded into a double play scoring Ramirez. Amed Rosario singled to keep the inning alive. He advanced to second base on defensive indifference. Curtis Mead lined out to right to end the game.

I guess you might say this was a pretty good start for Tyler Anderson. The Angels won 7-1 against the mighty Tampa Bay Rays.

Great game, but now we need to go on a 10 game losing streak in order to fulfill that magical destiny record of starting the season 6-14.

So there’s that.

Nice win.

Rendon and Trout are locked in.

Ward is on a hot streak.

At some point Drury and Sano will go on hot streaks.

I would stop short of saying that Rendon is “locked in.” He is still only hitting .162, lol.

Mike, on the other hand, yeah, you could say that. Tied for MLB lead in HR with 5.

He’s locked in since the standing ovation.

I only was able to follow the game on mlb.com with GameDay.

Was there actually an ovation or is this a joke ?

During his first at-bat at the Big A against the Red Sox about half the crowd gave him a standing ovation and others booed.

Ha ha. I hardly call that a standing ovation.

I mean, if half the people are booing it is sort of a reverse ovation.

It was 40% BOO , 30% Positive ovation and 30% were zombies on their phones

Let me guess, of the zombies on their phones 80% of those people were in the 100 Section ?

I imagine we can wait to see who is hot at AAA. But yes, bullpen help is (still) needed. Thank you Anderson for going deep in the game and putting this off another day.

2 seasons ago he had an ERA under 4 and was an above average pitcher (ERA+ at 101), and even better the season before.

He is still only 26, so I am guessing they are hoping he can recover his mojo – but the leash has to be short by now.

Man. Anderson must have worn a whole string of Hofey Ballpark franks around his neck all off season or something to ward off the Angel Fan shit juju cause he looks unsullied. Last season we managed to bitch like a bunch of kids who got bought a Sega instead of a Nintendo II as soon as we signed him instead of (insert failed FA pitcher here) till the juju drowned his ability to throw a baseball but this year he looks like he found some sort of garlic or something.

Maybe he can share his recipe for donkey repellant with the rest of the team?

This apparently multiple personality laden team….

Well, would you look at that ! Mike Trout is tied for the Major League lead in HR’s with 5.

He is tied with a guy named Mookie (the eventual MVP in NL) and two others …

You mean

Mike Trout (the eventual MVP in the AL) is tied with a guy named Mookie Betts (the eventual MVP in the NL), right?

JackFrost

Hmmm. Well, based on recent seasons and his injuries I’d say Trout is more of a longshot to win it then Betts is. I would be thrilled to see a return of 2014 Trout, but I will have to be a bit hesitant until I see 3-4 months of solid production.

Here are the current MVP odds via MyBookie :

Odds to Win NL MVP Award :

Betts (+400)

Odds to Win AL MPV Award :

Trout (+1300)

Mookie is the odds on favorite to win in the NL, with Acuna being a distant second at (+525) while Mike has five people in front of him, with Soto being the favorite. I would love to see it, but it is not likely. At least not right now.

Trout is on pace for 16 WAR and 80 HR. Sounds like MVP pace to me. Sure, wait for the freak injuries – but those can hit anyone.

The “pace” discussions on this site have been pure comedy the last two or three seasons… just ask Eric who started that ball rolling.

He was doing that in regards to the Angels season record early last year and look how far off that was. “Pace” means very little. Of course it it better to start fast than slow, but it doesn’t anywhere near guarantee final season numbers.

That should be clear to everyone by now. And not just in regards to Trout but for all players…

LTBU !!!

Easy to find positives and harder to find negatives in a game like this.

Perry built solid position player depth. I want to complain about Adell not getting PT, but who exactly is he supposed to replace in the lineup? Exactly.

Hoping for the best on Silseth’s MRI.

I think it is time to release Hicks ; never should have been picked up to begin with when BOTH Mickey and Jo need AB’s. Unfortunately for Jo I suspect Mickey is ready to turn things around and we’ll be seeing him in the OF on most nights now…. At least that is what should happen.

I looked through the box score and didn’t find Hicks in there.

Yes, that is a positive. But he is still a threat to steal playing time from the kids if he is on the roster.

Sano. While not terrible, would like to get Jo’s speed on the basepaths in the game. That is, if he can get on base.

If Sano only has (mostly) warning track power remaining, his reason for taking up the DH spot is significantly lessened.

Fun game tonight. Let’s all hope for more like this one and less like yesterday. Once Drury starts hitting, that will help too.

Moar Hey Mickey & Rengifo. Stat.

Rendon slapping singles & clogging the base paths like a true leadoff batter.

Anderson is our best starter after two games. No one called that one.

Ward is looking like 2022 Ward.

Too bad Trout is completely spent.

Actually, it struck me the other night (as he ran out a groundout no less) and again tonight when he actually went 1st to 3rd…. Rendon’s never gonna be mistaken for Devon White but he actually look HEALTHY running and he isn’t super slow. I guess I am surprised by his lack of slowness?

Or get boat raced tomorrow and then take Wednesday’s game 3-2 via walk off error

All things seem not only plausible, but probable.
