Trout Gives Fish Ol’ 1-2, Angels Come Back Big

7-4 Angels

We truly are going back to our 2010s roots in the wake of Ohtani. Shades of 2017 were visible as the rotation promptly gave up a sizable lead, the offense painstakingly scraped together a few runs one by one, and the bullpen did its damnedest to shut the door. Well, the good parts of 2017, I mean.

Chase Silseth did his best to inspire a lack of confidence in the team in the first inning against the winless Marlins, allowing 4 consecutive baserunners (one of which was not his fault) and a two-run double to an offense that has been less than stellar. A 4-run deficit to kick off the game was exactly what we were aiming for though, apparently.

Taylor Ward would answer back the next inning by pushing across a run on the back of a leadoff double and a bit of decent decision-making on the basepaths, but Mike Trout stepped up in the 4th inning to really give the Angels the feeling that they were back in it.

The Angels were pitching around trouble all night long, and seemed to be putting up big hits without anyone on. Frankly, I’d rather see what happened in the 6th for the Angels though over the full basepaths with nothing crossing the plate the Marlins were.

Some fantastic plate discipline from Anthony Rendon and some good luck would give the Angels a lead that they would further build on in the 9th.

On the pitching side, Cisnero and Suarez combined to allow a whole bunch of baserunners but no runs while Cimber and Moore were lights out. Estevez would allow the first runner in a handful of innings, but the lead would not be relinquished as Josh Bell and Jake Burger would quickly end the evening for Floridians. That’s two wins in a row!

I’m thinking that some drunk in the cantina there saw other patrons reaching/tracking the ball and he/she cluelessly thought, or said, “Idiots, we’re way up here.”

If Trout would’ve hit a fastball on that bomb, the pitcher would’ve been billed for someone’s vehicle damage.

We will see 3 HRs all off speed pitches down in the zone. I dont think his lone single was on a fastball.

Nice for the Halo’s offense to show up and grind.

Adell had two steals in one half inning-Nice broken bat RBI single too.

BTW, you know a balk is pretty bad when neither the pitcher, catcher or manager says a word.

Granted, it’s only been four games but it feels like Trout has taken back the lead dog position with this team. I hope it’s the spark he needs and can stay healthy this year.

I think a lot of it is Shohei not being there to overshadow him. He has his team back.

Nice theory but I’m not sure I’m ready to blame Shohei for Trouts real problem which has been his health issues. Prior to last year , In their first five seasons together , Trout still AVERAGED on OPS of 1.054. That included Ohtani’s first MVP year as well as another one where the unicorn got ripped off by the New York Cabal.

Trout sucked because of Shohei.

Right because Trout never hit 2 home runs in one game and never came out of a slump in all the years Ohtani was on the team.

Thinking the same thing, maybe they will do something as the season goes on. Hopefully not contrived or forced. Told Lana maybe it’s time to adopt a dugout dog.

I was just about to ask if they were still doing that. I am very glad they aren’t. If anything, maybe save it for homers that tie the game, or that are hit while they’re ahead. Stupid to do some dumbass hat celebration when you’re down by 8 runs.

I know they hit 3 HRs tonight, but dare I say tonight’s game reminded me of SothBall?! Chip, chip, chip away, tie, take a small lead, and lock it down with a closer.

Truly 2010s again. And to think, that period was also Wash’ heyday as a manager in the same division as Soth.

Trout had another sh*t game by K’ing in the 1st and not coming thru in the 8th with ducks on the pond. Washed?

On a serious note. Lot’s of positives. Silseth’s stat line is bad, but after going full Sandoval in the 1st, he bounced back and throwing 2 scoreless innings. He battled.

Shanny with the streak that Shall Not Die.

Trout with a bomb and an Atomic Bomb for the tie. Plus a BB.

Ward is all the way back. Good for him and us.

Jo Adell with a much deserved feel good game.

I’d leadoff & start Rengifo tomorrow. Ditto for Adell over Hicks. Slide Mickey to CF and let Trout continue to rake as the DH.

Mickey ain’t starting against Luzardo . I’m guessing Rendone will probably get the day off . Rengifo at third and Hicks in CF ( who like Rengifo crushes LHP) while Mikey gets a DH day on the turf. and Jo Adell starts in RF.

BTW you forgot about O’Hoppe coming in late with a huge triple and a Catcher Interference free behind-the plate-performance.

And to think, just a day ago some people here were talking about Trout not being able to “see the ball” and that he was basically washed up.

Lmao.

I hope he is back we need him. I stated he still has plenty of power but can’t see the ball as well. Was great he jumped on two pitches left in middle of the plate. But his strikeout rate is starting out really high this year. Hoping it’s just rust from being out so long. Get a better idea how his batting avg is after the first month.

That second HR was not “left over the middle of plate.” It was down low. Mike went down and got it. And hit an absolute BOMB.

Last season he did that against the Guardians closer Clase ; it was 98 mph I think. Trout ripped a double into the LCF gap… I believe that lead to a comeback in the 9th in which the Angels tied and eventually won the game …

No there’s a wall back there but I’ve ordered beer at that bar before it’s a looong way to home plate . To hit the ball 20′ above the bar is an epic shot.

37 stadiums including 28 of the current stadiums and 9 that have closed. The 2 stadiums I have not seen are Globe Life Field and Target Field in Minnehaha. Ironically the Angels have a short trip to Arlington and Minnesota scheduled for early September. I’m hoping to complete that circle this year. (until new parks open in Las Vegas, Kansas City & St Pete.) We try to see the Angels play on the road and have in most of the parks. the 9 closed stadiums I saw games in were:

Yankee Stadium
Shea Stadium
Veterans Stadium
Candlestick
Jack Murphy
Exhibition Stadium ( Blue Jays old stadium)
Old Comiskey
Globe Life Stadium
Olympic Stadium (Expos stadium)
