Morning Angels fans, have some links.
Angels News
Perry the GM had a press conference and while he blamed himself for the team’s failings, they will not rebuild in 2024, but compete. Yeah, this has Arte written all over it.
MiLB player Kevin Padlo has become a free agent. Yeah, we really can’t let the farm lose what little it has left.
Around Baseball
Playoff time, which means a chart for everyone.
The Twins have finally won a playoff game after 18 straight losses. Yes, seriously, 18 losses. It also means the Angels have gone the longest since a playoff win.
Rangers won their game 1. It was yet another win for Texas over TB as they seem to have their number. AT least the stadium was mostly empty.
Sneks ate the Brewers in their G1. Brewers really could use Woodruff right now.
Luis Arraez promised the Marlins would win this WC series vs the Phillies. Phillies win game 1.
And the A’s did not thank their fans after all eliminated teams did. Yesh.
Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes.
Did anyone know BIll Haselman is only 57 years old. I honestly thought he was wearing his age on third. He moves out there like a T-Rex trying to tie his shoes.
Yet again, I wondered where everybody went, and just now realized there is probably a new Gamethread active now.
Maybe we should raid our broadcasting team and make Salmon, GA, and Gubi into Managers and coaches. And Pujols while we’re at it. And get Finley and Weave for pitching coaches.
Hell ya. Lets get a bunch of guys that have never coached, let alone managed before. That’ll do the trick. But hey, 2002, right?
Yep.
What has been working well for the past 10 years?
Hey man, it totally worked on this documentary I watched called Ted Lasso!
Puppet in the dugout.
And we crowd source CTPG for the roster building, roster changes, daily lineups, (keep PTP on to do the paperwork) hire Kaiser (after the strike) for the medical, rotation of celebrity chefs, nutritionists, fitness trainers. Have Arte foot the bill, stay within his budget. And…..
Why does no one have fond memories of 2003? It was virtually the same team, minus the winning.
NAR! 2002 was no lucky blip that went all the way because of awesome fan juju! That would mean that Arte had something to do with the team winning post 2002 instead of just inheriting everything from Disney.
Such thoughts are not allowed.
definitely ok with this – other teams put their former stars on the development fields to develop players.
and ours go behind a camera – this has always bugged me.
like who?
Cardinals,Yankees, Dodgers
Gubi as Manager or pitching coach, Langston as a pitching coach, GA/Salmon, Hocking, Bobby V would be step up – impart some pride and a winning culture in the organization instead of what we have.
Talk about Hopium. It’s the same old, tired rant. It’s not 1975 anymore – Sparky, Tommy, and Earl are dead. Managers don’t make a difference like they once could by firing up the troops. That kind of respect for the skipper is long gone.
Do you really think Trout would be intimidated by a “gritty, scrappy, fiery” manager? How about Tony 2Bags? Sit me all season, and I’ll collect my millions…
noteasy.wav – Tommy Lasorda: “This f***ing job is not that f***ing easy!”
TBH, I think Gubi might make a good pitching coach. The way he analyzes what a pitcher is doing makes me think that.
It worked for the Lakers with Pat Riley…
least accurate dream of the year: mine, when we were 55-53. I dreamt (is that an obsolete spelling? dreamed?) that we won 7 in a row, lost a game, then won 6 more in a row to be 68-54. Yes, 13 of 14 wins. Well, no, that didn’t happen.
most memorable managerial quote: (and I mean we’ll talk about it for years) “you can’t go chasing wins every night”
biggest GM disaster: trading away top prospects for “upgrades”, then waiving most of the new vets after 3 weeks.
Worst owner move: not selling the team because of “unfinished business”
Maybe you dream the opposite of what is going to happen?
Whoever is picked, I think it should be outside the organization. We need new blood and fresh ideas. Therefore, no Montgomery or Gil.
No Montgomery unless it was well established that Phillip was ignoring his advice the last 2 years . Because if Phillip was listening to Montgomery, Perry’s Plant is part of the problem not the solution.
Yes to someone from outside the org. Stale shit. Need new stuff.
If the A’s move and new stadium makes them enough money to be competitive, and the ANgels continue their course of action (which there is no reason to believe they won’t) the Angels can look forward to being a last place team in the West until ownership changes.
Up the freeway, Th Dodgers appear to have figured out how to grow a team like Tampa, while spending like big market team. Aside from not winning a real WS, they will be finishing first until ownership changes. I heard on the radio, they actually had more people on the IL than any other team and still won 100 games.
But no hip fractures and less than 17 oblique strains.
Dodgers were #1 in days lost to injuries (2,465), while the Giants were #1 in players placed on the IL (46). The Angels were #2 in both categories (42 players totaling 2,346 days lost).
6 of the 8 teams with the fewest days lost made the playoffs, including Houston, Toronto, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Houston also had the fewest players placed on the IL (13) followed by Arizona, Cleveland, and Seattle (tied for 18).

Which proves the point that you can never have too much depth. And when your farm system has sucked giant balls for 12 straight years it doesn’t matter what you spend on free agents.
i remember how happy we all were in March cuz we signed DEPTH! this year instead of the big FA contracts
but it has to come from the farm too
It’s never enough with the Angels. It’s part of being bad.
“Sup bruh.
I think the key is to have as much complaining about just about everything we can think of to bitch about while the team is fighting to stay at or above .500. You know, demand accountability and call guys out. Suck the life out of things before anything good can get going. Then sit back and watch the bones break and tendons snap. Never change Real Angels Fanz.”
I’m liking these creepy-old-timey-Indian pictures. What tribe are they from? I’m thinking O’Hoppe might like to make a catchers helmet out of that mask. One other thought, if the Cleveland Indians had a bad ass traditional Indian like that for a mascot instead of the that cartoonish Indian would they still be the Indians?
Free the Indian medicine man for trainer next year! I’m sure he’s got some sweet as Wild Berry and a Tree Bark tea that would stop all the oblique tears.
Ohhhhhhh…. you might be the genius we need. HIRE THE WITCH DOCTOR. Full seasons for all the important players. Championshits everywhere.
I’m curious how many days Freddy Freeman and Mookie Betts lost. Not that it matters, because if you demand a champion hard enough then you just pick one team that makes your bitch stiff and ignore that whole pesky 6 out of 8 excuse making.
Do you need me to post a link to the Dodgers Vox site again so you can find it, follow your heart, and go Blue?
Arte and his merry gang have used the words ‘compete’ and ‘competitive’ to describe the team’s focus for at least the last 10 seasons. How is that going? My definition of those words must be different than theirs.
You posted it before I could.
Translation: Another losing season with no change in sight.
Didn’t love Perry’s presser yesterday. Fortunately, Dipoto’s comments to the media were even worse lol.
Jerry Dipoto says he operates with a 10-year plan to win 54% of the time.
“We’re actually doing the fanbase a favor in asking for their patience to win the World Series while we continue to build a sustainably good roster.”
https://twitter.com/Jake_M_Garcia/status/1709331367862124898?t=0qFY5Mke5sJ4RiRAfU3KDQ&s=19
Well, at least they have a plan.
The Fan base better do what he says or he’ll walk out on them too.
This year he helped Arizona build a sustainably good roster by trading them a key bullpen piece. 2024 will be year 9 with Jer Jer at the helm.
What a Douche.
He used the word “sustainably” for reason. It’s a soothing, calming phrase for the hippie’s up there. A sustainable baseball farm system is nice….Think of the Angels system with all the waste. The constant air travel, the perpetual roster re-buildings, all the processed food, poor nutrition leading to the many pelvic fractures, the sleep deprived, poor mental health from dealing with daily failures, the poor coaching and training. That’s not sustainable.
To state the obvious, there seems to be a disconnect between Perry’s expectations and the actual results of losing 16 more games than you win (17 games short of a playoff spot). That’s a big miss and a giant overestimation of your talent. And after these results, Perry and Phil are still saying “We think we’re real close.” The organization’s performance is disgraceful. Since 2015, the trend has been downward.
87 wins sounds pretty good to me right now!
hah hah hah hah
Will never understand the leash Dipoto has up there. Sure, the roster looks pretty good but that better be the case after he was afforded 2 different tear downs and has traded a closer in 2 of the last 3 seasons when they were in contention.
Dude is the definition of mediocre yet he gets some kind of mad genius reputation because of his roster ADHD.

99-63 and $79M payroll lost to TX Rangers at 90-72 BUT WITH A $251M PAYROLL.
Plus the Milwaukee Brewers with their loss to the AZ D-Backs. Expect 2 out of first round small market teams to get knocked out. None will win the World Series, so congrats still to the 2015 Kansas City Royals
BOTTOMLINE SMALL MARKET LOW OPERATING BUDGET TEAMS STILL DON’T WIN IN THE MLB POST SEASON.
lol it’s been 1 game, holy smokes
Yeah, but how else can he justify posting random uncaptioned headshots?
lol ok.
Yeah, okay, and Kevin Padlo is a World Series MVP.
We have rules and this post should be deleted.
For those that think overwhelming talent in a lineup is necessary to make the playoffs, take a look at the lineups that played yesterday for the DBacks and Brewers. It’s about pitching and timely hitting.
TB Rays exemplify what you’re talking best with 99 wins and a $79M payroll, however these teams you’re mentioning ain’t winning the WS either. Until they go up against the Astros, Braves, Dodgers, Phillies, and Rangers. All 5 of these teams have big budgets and payrolls over $220M.
Appreciate what the Rays are doing but there is no reason to have a $79M payroll. They do show that good management and coaching can help maximize what you can do with the talent you have.
Kind of condemning of the Halos organization in that they have pretty high payroll every year and yet can’t even finish with a winning record, much less make the playoffs.
“Kind of”? The Angels Org is fully condemned not just within the confines of CTPG but within the general baseball community. They are widely viewed as a joke of an Organization.
They are
widelyviewed as a joke of an Organization.I’ve made up my mind and conceded that with this owner (since we don’t have Stan Kroenke) that I’ll take what TB does any day over what we’ve done since 2015. Quite frankly I’m also confident that the fans would still show up to see this team with a bunch of obscure no name players like TB, if they’re winning and in the playoffs. Sadly I don’t think our owner believes that however.
Noted. But after making the playoffs a couple years in a row, we can reach the next threshold of whether there is enough talent to win it all. Progress would be helpful. BTW the Royals won it all within the last ten years and didn’t have overwhelming talent. Pitching was key.
After a decade plus of underwhelming talent around Trout and Ohtani, I’m ready to give overwhelming talent a try.
And defense!
Kevin Padlo taking the field was when I knew this team had no chance at the postseason.
Is he the only one. I’m sure I culd think of more but. I’m trying to forget everyone in what I call theCaptain Jack brigade.
What a brutal stat of having the longest playoff win drought now. Yeeesh.
For all his douchiness, the way Bryce Harper plays the game is exactly what the Halos need. If only MNT could…….
What’s the difference in how they play? Trout plays the harder position.
This isn’t about playing CF vs. any other position. I’m talking about attitude. I’m talking about aggressiveness in the clubhouse and on the field. I’m talking about hating to lose and visibly showing it.
Well I think trout plays the game fine. Just because he isn’t a loud mouth or aggressive towards his teammates doesn’t take away his impact on the game. Harper has been this way since his team has been relevant/making the playoffs where as trout’s team really hasn’t.
Bryce has got The Grit! I have great respect for him. I’d trade Trout for him in a second, not that it would ever happen.
Bryce is also the inferior player.
So You’re talking about Logan O’Hoppe.
Got it.
I think Harper has matured quite a bit over the years. He was a young, entitled guy early in his career but I actually like him now.
And he plays the game the right way.
Yeah. Harper was annoying years ago but he’s been a perfectly fine baseball man for a while now.
Possible Halo managers with odds.
One name is conspicuously missing.
https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/article280087824.html
I can’t wait until they announce the next manager. “Ladies and gentlemen, May I introduce the next manager of your Los Angeles Angels. …………. Jose Conseco!!! We really believe he has a winning pedigree and know he can lead this team to the playoffs and a championship. “0
Not getting the Ray Montgomery love. Dudes been bench coach on historically awful angel teams.
But he’s prob cheap so whatever.
Albert Pujols is already under contract, so Arte may look at that as cost savings.
Bruce Bochy? Didn’t know there were two in MLB.
Should have signed him last year. Don’t understand why he’d be on the list when he’s busy with his current team…..a playoff series in TB, with 2 years remaining on his contract.
So tell me again why the Angels are getting their managerial replacement odds form a Texas Rangers newspaper?
Ah, they know something! Not good enough for the Rangers, diminished skills, senility setting in…..they are baiting us to sign him to a 10 year “Soth” like contract…. Genius!
Definitely not Bochy…guess again.
Think getting the band back together.
I’m asking why is on this list?
You’re right!!
So is Anthony Rendon
He’s the guy…connection with PTP, cheap, moldable, familiar with the bullshit in the organization, absolutely no other team is considering him, yeah, it’s him.
Just get it over with, sign him so he can get his new laptop and start the onboarding process. Give him his new, shiny “lucky coin” so he can start practicing for next year’s in-game coin flipping/computer-added decision-making.
https://youtu.be/UZ3svOE9ZQ0?si=5uEXM7NMqvLQw921
I’ll take this guy as the owner, at least I’m confident he would do what ever it takes to win!!
Unfortunately that would likely mean Suarez and Dia-Berria will remain on the team….seen enough of them
The only two I would want on that list are Bruce, who is not available, and Buck. Ray Montgomery has been helping Phil make decisions all year, so if you didn’t like Phil’s decisions, you shouldn’t be hiring Ray Montgomery. Not saying I want him, but Buck would provide professionalism, stability and credibility, and would be a good guy to mentor the next manager. I don’t know much about the Astro’s bench coach.
Hey, where is Ron Washington’s name on that list? He is very familiar with motels on Katella Ave!
Tony Phillips reference.
I don’t see Ron Gardenhire on the list either.
No love for Napoli being on this list? It’s a two-fer, we get his mom as well!
😆
Napoli’s mom, Shohei’s mom, Vlad’s mom used to feed the team……..
We are gonna need a new team mom for 2024……
Maybe the “Kelce Brothers” mom could come onboard in an honorary position until we find a new one.
Which begs the question: Where is Jeff “Premium” Mathis name on the list?
Come on Benji Gil!
If they are willing to consider a Benji, then Molina would like to throw his name in the hat.
Let’s get a staff of Molina, Molina, Napoli and Matthas!
😄
Sounds like a personal injury law firm.
What would it take to get Larry H Parker?
A retainer fee.
Here
Is he on his way?
Then we’d be out on Wilson.
