Angels lose to Mets 3-2

The Angels are the AL Mets. It has been known. The first expansion teams, always in the shadow of the baseball giants of NY and LA, injured all the time with wasted talent, they are the same.

Canning was on the mound and he did great. 7 innings of 1 run ball and 9 K with only 1 walk. Excellent. Unfortunately, his opponent matched him exactly as offense was rare today.

Indeed the Angels on;y mustered up 4 hits today and Rengifo had 2 of them. You need more than that to win games but that ship has sailed, really.

Highlighted Recap

It was a low scoring affair today with no one scoring in the first 3 innings. Mets score first in the 4th.

1-0 Mets

But the Angels tie it up in the 7th thanks to CHAD being back!

1-1

International fugitive Luis Rengifo gave the Angels the lead with a home run in the 8th!

2-1 Angels

But the Mets tie it up right away.

2-2

And Lopez couldn’t get anyone out in the 9th, Angels lose on walkoff.

Ugh

Upcoming

Angels lose and will play more games this year, not that we would like to watch them. Phillies up next though, with no Mike Trout which means everyone will talk about Mike Trout and football season. Ugh.

Yo! Mariners, is it lonely at the top? Congrads Jedi, you do know what you’re doing, but you still are a quitter.

I hate the quitting aspect and have always been critical of it. But maybe we also need to take a broader perspective and consider Arte’s role (and the Organization’s) in Dipoto getting that frustrated.

I could see with the Mariners making the post season 2-years in a row, Ohtani considers them an option. I’d hate it for sure.

Had a big event at Church today and dinner afterwards so, I missed today’s game, it happens. Tough loss really, Blowpen came out in force. Feeling bad for Canning. Lineup can muster only 4 hits? Hope we get some new hitting coaching over the Winter Break.

Besides Rengifo and Ohtani, here is what the line up that Phil rolled out is hitting for the month of August. Just like the GPAs in Animal House. A new low.

Drury .234
Escobar .185
Grichuk .133
Renfroe .182
Moniak .178
Wallach .167
Velasquez .125

.
Can’t give away the game before it starts by starting Squid. 0 for 3.
Pop out 0 for 1
Stuck out on a bunt attempt 0 for 2 to end the inning
Line out to 1B with runners on 2nd and 3rd to end the inning. Rally killer

Only use him in the 9th as defense replacement or pinch runner. Let him hold Ippei’s sunflower seeds or just DFA him already!

August: .105/.190/.316

His defense does NOT make up for that deplorable batting slashline.

With only 4 hits do you really think one hitter is at fault? Both the Pen and the Lineup cost the team a “W”.

When you lose by 1 run, yes, 1 hitter can be at fault.

There were others who went 0 for the game. But Squid was the one everyone knew had the best chance at a hitless game before it even started. I liked Squid and even hoped he’d learn to hit like Simba did. Nope, Squid just inked himself.

His batting avg speaks for itself and his more recent avg is even worse. Plus throw in a few errors on defense and there is no question why he need to be DFA’D.

We are playing a man Millions to play in AAA. I would rather have Fletch up than watch Squid ink.

Im shocked the Angels have still kept squid on the roster. his bat is atrocious and hes defense at SS is only mildly better than Rengifo ( who is among the league’s worst according to The Fielding Bible)

I get Neto will be coming back soon but it’s time to move on.The Plumber still leads the PCL in hitting and in his small MLB sample size at second base (per the fielding bible) hes outperformed everyone including Drury. But since that would leave us short at short, another option would be bringing back Luis Soto who has finally got enfuego at the Lago. In his last 64 PAs hes slashing .386/.453/.662 for the Bees. Although his strikeout rate is still astronomical , he’d fit right in here.

Not that well. His range has deteriorated immensely in the last 2 years.

Very true. Fletcher looked terrible last time up. Erick Aybar is 39 and he would be better at SS.

To develop the Plumber & Soto at the major league level? I think that would be importantt for next year and this offseason if we can work on it now.

Yeah, Squid needs to go. Plumbers a nice story but he is no major leaguer. I’d take him over Escobar though.

Phil Nevin is so incredibly unfit for the job its remarkable.

One of the more frustrating losses in a season full of them.

Live by the long ball, die by the long ball. Every batter from the 8th on was trying to hit a HR…. what happened to small ball?
