LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Inconsistent Angels

Good morning Angels fans! How are you today? Oh, well, uh, have some links!

Angels News

So, the Angels lost to the White Sox, somehow. While not A’s level bad, the White Sox haven’t been… good. After sweeping Boston, you would think this team was going on the up and up…

Hey, at least the AA team knows how to score runs! They came back to win after being down 12-0. Yes, the Trash Pandas win 15-12 after losing 12-0 in the 3rd.

Can the Angels stay out of legal trouble? No. A fan sues the team after getting hurt by a thrown ball. Is it frivolous? Probably. Will the fan win? No idea. Maybe Charles knows.

Angels have injuries this year again, but for once, the team is able to absorb them. Chad and Matt have filled in for Logan very well this year.

Meanwhile Rendon is still injured and his timetable is ‘no clue.’ Good thing Gio is on the team.

Around Baseball

A’s have been a sad sack this year. So much so that pitchcom is loud enough for the fans to hear, all 12 that show up. But hey, they won yet another series vs the Braves somehow! It was their 5th walkoff win of the year.

Padres games will be on tv again! I wish I didn’t need cable to watch sports, if only there was another way…

Speaking of San Diego, they have Gary Sanchez now and he will wear 99. Remember when the Angels were going to sign him? Dodged a bullet there.

Jesse Winker is hurt and will go on the IL. Maybe that brawl was cursed…

Tigers send 2 players to the IL. No need to one up them, Detroit…

For MLB player Mike Young has passed away. He played mostly for Baltimore, and Angels fans would remember him as the guy who hit 2 extra inning home runs off of the Angels in 1987.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes!

In Oakland, not so bad of a stadium. I’d put it even with LAD and we got seats five rows behind home plate after the 6th inning. 2nd best sausage I’ve had at a stadium and the fans start cheering with 2 strikes. Outside the stadium, we drove through a street with so much homeless junk that I wouldn’t touch it with somebody else’s 10 foot pole.

Rendon expected to return during the Cubs series.

Season is on the line today’s game + Houston series. Can we survive the next 5 games? Only time will tell

The “hope” is that our $37M per year albatross will be back in 5 games? Then what – the guy breaks wind and fractures a femur?

“No bags” Rendon is dead to me.

I don’t like Rendone either, just reporting the reporter’s report.

The femur bone is connected to the ass bone…the ass bone is connected to the Tommy John bone…and so on.

In my previous posts touting CtPG as passionate and entertaining, I forgot to add another adjective.

Educational.

I don’t think there is another baseball site that teaches Gross Anatomy.

Tommy John bone weakness is apparently a draft day priority.

In the 1858 edition of Gray’s Anatomy, the chapter on the “inter-connective tissues of the gluteal region” clearly illustrates how under extreme strain and stress the tensor fasciae latae could cause the femur to be damaged.

So yes, “IR List Tony” could expell wind and break a bone.

Plenty of rest, works 10-12 weeks a year and makes $37MM a year. If not for the abject shame attached, I’d feel amazing too.

$120M after taxes – he could live richly on the interest and suit up when he feels like it.

Nevin’s zaniness continues with today’s starting lineup:

Moniak RF
Trout CF
Ohtani DH
Ward LF
Thaiss C
Urshela 3B
Walsh 1B
Neto SS
Soto 2B

I wouldn’t have even come close to the lineup in my wildest dream. Out of convention method will turn Angels momentum today?

I will keep doing it as long as Angels win. If they lose, please do it in my stead.

I would have expected today to be Ohtani’s rest day, given it’s a morning getaway game and he got hit painfully in the leg the other game, and then Trout will DH. But maybe Nevin is hoping that Shohei’s HR last night is a slump-breaker and he wants to get the momentum going.

I don’t think I’ve seen both Renfroe and Drury rested together, but now that Walsh is back, Nevin is probably more comfortable doing it.

Drury’s probably busy getting an X-ray.

Don’t know whether this is another reason, but batters like Steven Kwan or Mark Canha did really well against Lynn while power hitters like Nolan Arenado, JD Martinez, or Miguel Cabrera have done miserably below the Mendoza line batting average. That might explain Soto being in the lineup.

I kinda like the lineup lol.

Ward and Urshela should be flipped. Other than that, looks good considering the day off for Renfroe and Drury.

I don’t understand Ward 4th (move him to 6/7/8) or Neto 8th (move him to 6/9). The rest seems fine.

Ward has faced Lynn 4 times and hit 2 doubles. Very small sample.

They are really clinging to the very brief “great Ward” from last year. Shoving 5 pounds of sausage into a 25-pound bag.

Hope I’m wrong. Go Ward.

Jack Mayfield hit cleanup last year so there is precedent established.

Back to Sad Donkey…🫏❄️💩🚽

I’m sure Cy-Lynn with his near 6 era will have a strong start today.

And the Dancing Bear pitching well in his last outing, is probably why he won’t pitch well this outing. trAdition

Trout faced Lynn 31 times, 28 AB, 0.214/0.290/0,429 2HR 8SO Right under his name is Geraldo Parra, (well known for single handedly raising Baby Shark on Billboard top 10). He faced Lynn 30 times, 28 AB, 0,500/0,533/1.214 3HR 3SO.

Angels should have had Parra instead of Rendon. 😄

Good morning and how the heck did we manage to lose last night? Has Shohei, Trout and Renfroe all forgot how to hit and stay away from low and away? I have to say that the top half of the order makes me excited to see the bottom 4 so we can score more. I am very concerned about Shohei and Trouty not producing, although that diving Trout catch was a huge surprise, but will he be out for a week or 2? I sure don’t want to hear about Trout and Shohei complaining how they want to make playoffs, well it’s time to put up numbers and lead the pulling of the wagon.

I’m starting to question my time and energy investment (again) to watch almost every game this year. Another mediocre year of Angels baseball seems to be the most likely outcome and that just feels like a scene from Groundhog Day. I’ve spent 50 years of watching this team with truly good squads for maybe 15 years in that time. .

Not doom or gloom here but instead a slow awakening to a less desired reality. They will still win lots of games but despite my fandom, I don’t see a playoff run as a reasonable expectation.

Fortunately there are tons of great things to do outdoors in Oregon while it’s nice out and I bought a new boat over the winter. I will still watch of course but will try to be more conditional and pick my spots.

We live in the same state! I am looking forward to picking Oregon strawberry soon because they are the best in the world bar none. I will not allow any argument about my love for Oregon Strawberry (especially Shuksen variant).

I have not been Angels fan as long as you have been, but I can imagine what prolonged futility can do to one’s mentality. It is human nature to taper his or her expectations to prepare for possibility of being severely disappointed. I sincerely hope that Angels will have a strong run for play off spot to run counter all these east coast pundits who have declared that Ohtani is going to Dodgers since the end of April and have said the same everyday since then.

P.S. I have not watched Mr. Baseball yet. I guess I was little bit pissed off last night. But, as I was reading more about the movie on internet, your user name turns out to be one of main characters in Major League. A huge lightbulb lit in my brain!

My teammates dropped that nickname on me back in my playing days when that movie came out. I really liked swinging hard and punishing fastballs but “balls that bend” not so much.

I was exact opposite of you, always looking for contact, rarely struck out, dropped many safety bunts, and was used as pinch runner a lot when I played on rec level over 35 adult baseball league team. You would have been a great clean up hitter and teammate for us, but you would have been frustrated with some of our creative errors that we committed.

I’ll complain about the lack of situational hitting in the game and how guys refuse to cut down their swings when they just need contact for an easy RBI while watching games. My wife, who was there for much of my baseball life never forgets to remind me that I swung as hard as I could as often as I could.

I used to joke that with talent like mine you can make hundreds of dollars 🙂

I’m not sure I take comfort in the fact that Anderson went from 3.19 ERA, 1.49 WHIP in his last 5 starts to 13.5 ERA and 2.0 WHIP last night instead of Loup blowing the game and getting DFA’d.

That said, Anderson has been inconsistent throughout his career, so hopefully this was his terrible start that will be followed by another 5 good-to-mediocre ones.

Plus he won’t even comment about his injury, giving the appearance he doesn’t give a crap. Not that I care, since I’m happy with Gio starting over him anyway.

He must read fan sites. Wasn’t he known for a pleasant disposition in Washington? And wasn’t his lack of grittiness one of the complaints against him?

Now all of a sudden he’s attacking fans and refusing to talk to reporters. He’s probably frustrated with his own health issues and feeling old, which isn’t a good sign.
