The minor leaguers win. Their nine year lawsuit against MLB just settled for a bundle.
The Angels just placed Jose Marte on the 60 day injured list. So it begins. It’s not just the Angels, though. The Rangers just put Jake Odorizzi and Glenn Otto on the 60 day IL. Adrian Houser is also going on one of the injured lists. So is Elieser Hernandez of the Mets. I guess, of all the Angels injuries I find Stassi’s hip to be concerning. He just got done having surgery there and now there’s a problem again. This article lists Jake Lamb as part of the opening day roster although the last link said he had glute tightness,
The Athletics traded Christian Pache to the Phillies for minor league right hander Billy Sullivan. The Cardinals designated left hander Anthony Misiewicz for assignment. The Tigers just acquired Grant Witherspoon, a minor league outfielder, from the Rays for cash. They outrighted Rony Garcia after he cleared waivers. They just selected Chasen Shreve and Trey Wingenter. Expect more roster shuffling as they work out their 40 man roster issues. The Guardians extended their second baseman Andres Gimenez for seven years at $106.5 Million.
I guess throwing the ball over the plate is a good thing. Who knew?

I’m overseas and didn’t see the opening game but just read the box scores.
I’m pissed.
How many more Ohtani gems are we going to waste this year?
Nevin using Loup and Tepera to close out a one run lead is a failure of imagination.
The reason that I’m pissed is that this reminds me of last year.
I don’t want to be reminded of last year. In any way….!
I think we all know the bullpen is suspect. Starting pitching looks solid; we’ve better hitting depth.
If we are starting the season with Nevin using Loup and Tepera as our 8th and 9th inning guys, we’re doomed…..
deGrom got tagged for five runs. Lol.
Had a blast watching games at work all day. Surprisingly, I called more leads today than I have in forever. Smiled and dialed.
Loved watching Boston lose after getting their hopes up. A blowout would’ve been nice, but an epic buttercup is even better in a way.
Off to get in some training, probably some light sparring, then watch Ohtani beat up on Oakland.
Good Halo lineup tonight, hope the game gets in due to weather
nice to see the Phils hitting deGrom. Marsh 1 for 1, a triple.
Marsh 2 for 2, a triple, then a double. I hope he does well. O’Hoppe too
He’s off the hook, 5-5 bottom 4
Texas has now come all the way back and tied it 5-5.
Hate to say it but I think the Rangers will win that game.
9 Run 4th.
Stassi is signed thru 2024 with a team option for 2025. O’hoppe is not a FA until 2029 and Thaiss is not a FA until 2028.
IF O’hoppe and Thaiss are serviceable behind the dish and with the bat do the Angels try and trade Stassi this year? If they can find someone to take on his 2024 salary ($7MM) that’s an additional $7MM to sign Ohtani.
Using the need for an additional $20MM/year to sign Ohtani (based on the interview Jeff joiner did with Jeff Fletcher) adding the $7MM from Stassi to the already $15MM mentioned in the interview gives the Angels plenty of room to sign Ohtani, at least financially. 🤔
Interesting to see if they could move that contract, if he gets healthy and plays well, I’d say they could. Controlling payroll with cheap, young players is foreign to the Angels.
Still waiting for that Ohtani extension by 7PM….
How are people in the Orange County/LA markets watching the Angels this year? I was hoping the Bally bankruptcy would lead to MLB streaming them, but I guess they are still making their payments to the Angels, at least.
Lot of changes in MLB in a short amount of time.
Universal DH, expanded playoff teams, pitch clock, bigger bases, shift ban, scheduling changes playing every team, trying to improve Minor leagues ….I’d give them A for effort.
The next thing they will need to fix is the financial gap between the Yankees and the Pirates.
And find out exactly what it is the Doyers inject into their players. Decrease the felony crime rate in their parking lot.
Yahoo. Another Angels opening day. Go Angels!
nothing says Bronx baseball like a 350 ft HR to that band box in RF
Breaking news- Zoolander…low grade teres major strain..feels Les Misérables……do I have a Teres Major? Never heard of those.

Judge homers his first AB. Unreal.
I wonder what baseball’s Manfred is using in this game?
I mean, it’s a fair question.
This issue is basically why I answered no to whether an Angel would win MVP. The east coast writers will be slobbering all over Judge and perhaps one or two other east coast players. MLB will do its part.
I think both Trout and Ohtani will be competitive but jilted.
but can he pitch?
But…
Does he have an Ippei?
Yankee fans are wild. On their feet for the third out of the first inning of the season.
So they will all be calling for Cashman’s and Boone’s firing in about a week?
Probably
its their announcers that i really enjoy, both radio and TV
they are my usual follow at 4pm before Angels games at 7pm
And have numerical issues…poor Yankees

I know. Just have them wear a circle with an asterisk in the middle on their back. Problem solved.
I’m surprised Matty V won’t be in Oakland tonight with his favorite team….he’s calling the Yankee game, his other favorite team. We will have to wait to hear what Matty V has to say about Matty V.
He should call ALL of the Yankee games.
i thought the Phillies were his favorite team. and the Mets.
Yes, those are also on his list. But, his all-time-favorite team is Team Matty V.
Happy Opening Day! Would love to start the season by thumping the A’s!
If we get 400 games from the Three Horseman of the Apocalypse (Trout, Ohtani, Rendon), we will win at least 90 games.
Yep – around 130-140 games with all 3 in the lineup and that’s a distinct possibility.

Others will join in throughout the season such as Soto, Neto, Moniak, Adell, Stassi, among even others. Another catcher or 2 promoted upwards or traded for. This is the most powerful hitting Angels team ever, potential to get to 300 HRs. The injury bug notwithstanding, then this team is strong with the bat. Overall weak on defense. Our last 3 managers have not understood how to use David Fletcher and it won’t be until just prior to All Stars that David Fletcher’s value is recognized. Let’s kick some ass!
You wake and bake this morning grandpa? You are essentially predicting 50-55 WAR from the first 8 players you list.
Walsh with 27HRs in a part time role?
This is like me predicting 4 twenty game winners with one of those being Ramon Ortiz.
GPB might be in an identity theft ring…those look like SS numbers and account information?
Those are credit card numbers and passwords! 😂
It’s either Morse Code or the measurements of the Playmate of the Month
Putting it another way, if what Grandpa predict occurs, the Angels will win approximately 110 games with even average pitching. They would average 6-7 runs per game. Grandpa has then scoring over 1000 runs.
Maybe those Coors Lights have already been cracked?
With GPB you must take every thing with a grain of salt. I mean, he might as well predict the Angels will go 162-0 since he picks them to win every single game prior to that game.
but only 89 wins?
Go figure
87-75 presuming no major injuries. Could compete for a wildcard.
If Ohtani, Trout or Rendon go down for any appreciable period of time, likely under .500.
If Rendon goes down, there are those that can cover for him. If Ohtani or Trout or Ward or O’Hoppe go down, then oh NO.
Clearly health and the bullpen are the two biggest question marks for this season. Our depth is better than it has been in years, which is nice, but
(even have OF reinforcements in the minors. Moniak etc) as you said, none of that depth compensates for losing either Shohei or Mike for an extended period.
I’m giddy about this evening’s first Angels game of the official 2023 season. I’m not too concerned with Stassi’s injury as we have O’Hoppe, I think he’ll do just fine. I’m calling an 87 to 92 win team barring any major injuries. Making the postseason.
Let’s get some runs!
I have more concern than most, since we are facing a young “Cy Lefty” tonight in Muller. These young, no-name left-handers have a way of shutting our bats down. It is obvious Oakland knows this and thus chose Muller as the Opening Day starter. Hopefully this season the “Cy Lefty” trend that punishes us wilI change. But I do suspect that this game will be lower scoring than most expect.
I’m hoping with our new additions, Renfroe, Drury, and with Ward proving that he has all star caliber bat and glove in the field, the old
“Soft tossing Cy Lefty” narrative disappears forever.
This is my primary reason for optimism this year. We will score some runs (if we stay healthy). It will take some pressure off the pitching. The lineup looks stacked enough that we will be the ones wearing out teams..we will be the ones causing the bodily fluids to flow on the mound..pitchers will not have their way with us this year.
Yes – the lineup is stacked presuming health. I think the team could average 5 runs per game staying healthy.
Starting pitching is good. Relief pitching is below average.
My concern is we will lose games in the late innings. Losing 8-6 after being ahead 5-3 is still losing.
Winning 90 games in MLB is hard to do. A lot of things have to go right. That said, this team could do that for sure.
