The Angels made a bunch of roster moves, of course, but David Fletcher and Max Stassi getting injured were not part of the plan. Do you think Mike Trout excited will be better than Mike Trout unexcited? He powered the Angels to number one on the Fangraphs center field power rankings. Michael Corneluis Scipio Trout Africanus? What? Logan O’Hoppe got a lot of attention in this article.
We’re doomed! Hunter Renfroe, Taylor Ward, and Mike Trout are all ranked in the top thirty starting outfielders in MLB.
Julio Teheran got reassigned to minor league camp by the Padres. The Athletics just signed Jeurys Familia.
The Yankees won’t have Luis Severino at the start of the season due to a lat strain. Rhys Hoskins has a torn ACL and might miss the entire 2023 season.

Keston Hiura DFAd from the Brewers, man that was sure a quick descent. Someone will snag him and see if he can straighten himself out.

Jeez thats a new one
I’d rather break an arm than deal with headaches and insomnia. That stuff can fck you up mentally. Up there with bad tooth pain.
It’s the equivalent of a brain Tommy John strain.
So it begins. TrAdition. Same as it ever was. Perfectly normal, Perfectly natural.
Even Kawhi Leonard agrees….
JuJu bruh
Lamb’s opportunity to shine. Will he capitalize on it?
Like a lamb to slaughter
The linked article (which does not mention Fletch) has Lamb out of tonight’s game with glute tightness.
“Two-week program” is pretty vague….headaches and insomnia can be symptoms of many things – including emotional issues and mental health disorders. To say he is doing a 2-week program really gives no insight – probably intentionally.
You’re likely right. Hope he can get right soon. His spring was so encouraging.
He probably cracked his skull smiling…. cause grit!
If only he’d be more transparent and tell us what’s going on inside him.
Yeah – I’m meh about actually knowing, particularly if it’s a mental health issue. It’s pretty irrelevant what it actually is. But I’d like to know if this is something new or whether he has dealt with it before.
They just updated recently that Palmeiro will be at 1st instead of Lamb.
Orlando?
Nope, his look alike son.
Depth mothaf***er!
Man. I hope he recovers well. I just want him to have a good year. I just want Jared to smile and have fun hitting dingerz for the ladies.
Where does that leave us in terms of pitchers? Tucker D, Canning, Barria? Do we have to run anyone through waivers?
Luis Severino…. the Yankees Garrit Richards.
Evidently on the Dodgers broadcast last night, the announcers called Nevin our “interim manager.” My Dodgers fan neighbor texted me asking why we still had an interim manager and why the Angels were starting the season without hiring someone new.
To the Dodgers, we’ve been an interim team since 1961.
You tell your Doyer friends to win a WS once in a while. The 2020 spring training championship doesn’t count. Haven’t won since 1988. Dinosaurs still roamed the planet back in 1988.
Eat it Doyers!
I would say that to my other doyer friends but this neighbor is so nice, such a sweetheart, that I never say anything rude like that to her. She only says nice and complimentary things about the Angels. She does not know how I feel about the dodgers.
Los Angeles:
Hobo poop. Hollywood dirtbags. Kids who go to USC. Fake boobs. Fake everything. Not biological woman at all. Fake river. Mamba mentality. Maserati mentality. Maroon 5. Good tacos. Bubble champions.
Well, um, I like Maroon 5
I finally found a flaw in Lana ha ha.
🤣 I have many more that you have evidently overlooked.
They are all overridden by the mere fact of your Halo fandom.
That it. 😀
I’ll let this one go
people had homes in Chavez Ravine in the 1950s.
The Dodgers said “No, those are interim homes”
Full of “3/4 people”. But don’t worry, we’ll bring up one of “them” twenty years later and own their souls… (villainous Arte laugh)
Wait, Moreno! Oh nOOO!
Except they didn’t. Most of it was cleared for the Elysian Park Heights public housing project long before O’Malley ever flew over it in a helicopter. But that doesn’t fit the horrible Doyers, who “took advantage” of kindly old Gene Autry
narrative, does it?
So you are saying that the Dodgers STARTED the current housing crisis!
No. Arte. Arte started it.
I can’t upload video cuz it’s too large, but here’s a couple still photos of pitcher Cole Schoenwetter of the San Marcos Royals in Santa Barbara just down the street from me. He’s my boss’s kid. I took my son to watch him pitch on Saturday. He’s being scouted by every team in the MLB. The top ranked HS pitcher in CA. They were out in force with radar guns ablaze. Pretty fun. Maybe he’ll end up an Angel. Ya never know!
Cool. Was an Angel scout there or should we pass the word to Per-Per?
Santa Barbara…must be nice
I know the Angels have their eye on him. I keep getting the updates from his dad on which teams are schmoozing him every week. Haha. Those guys in the photo I guess are what they call cross checkers. Not the lead scout necessarily but just keeping tabs on him.
I think the San Marcos Royals are going to be down in Anaheim for a tournament this week from what I’ve been told. So some of y’all in OC could catch a glimpse if you’re interested.
And yes, SBs not a bad place to live if you wanna spend your whole paycheck on housing. It’s the permanent staycation cuz we can’t afford to do anything else.
Make sure he doesn’t confuse Scott Schoeneweis with Schoenwetter.
DUUUDE! I would be so stoked if he got picked by us!
Tonight it’s Thor vs Anderson which seems funny because of 2022
Battle of the Compensation Picks
Are we going to do our season win predictions at any point?
This week.
I predict no perfect season for the 2023 Halos.
I predict Tucky D plus that outfield make three…. hundred wins….
0-162 is still possible.
By Nick Deeds | March 26, 2023
Angels manager Phil Nevin indicated to reporters (including Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register) that the club would not be naming right-hander Carlos Estevez as the closer to open the season, instead opting for a committee approach to open the season. Estevez signed with the Angels earlier this offseason on a two-year deal and was expected to step into the closer role to open the season, but that does not appear to be the plan, at least for the start of the 2023 campaign.
Still, Nevin told reporters that Estevez “is definitely going to get some big outs late in the game most of the year for us,” leaving the door open to the right-hander remaining the conversation to close games for the Angels this season. The Angels have a fairly deep group of pitchers with late inning experience at the back of their bullpen in addition to Estevez that includes Ryan Tepera, Matt Moore, Aaron Loup and Jimmy Herget
Bullpen by committee. Having some deja vu right now.
Yep, one more time again, we don’t have enough pitching.
I’m just going to predict it now…as assembled a .500 club.
That’s where I am. 80-84 wins
kinda like the pen.
the only thing thats annoyed me so far is phillips getting a roster spot.
.500? We only play 162 games?
It worked at the end of last year . When was the last time before that the Angels Employed a Bullpen by Comm approach ? Like 1997?
I actually like it when a smart manager is making the daily decisions… Not sure I would include Nevin in that group.
For example, when Maddon basically revolutionized modern relief pitching by doing this in Tampa his approach was based on total flexibility; that is, a guy closing one night might be pitching in the 7th or even 6th another night. So, it was not like he had 2-3 guys closing and 2-3 getting holds etc. Really anyone could close on a given night based upon a variety of factors ; how “hot” they were (or if cold, avoid them), matchups, recent innings pitched (wear and tear etc), and especially the opponent that night and their lineup strenghths and weaknesses (similar to matchups but different from simply the traditional left vs left and right vs right thinking)…Of course they were also using spray charts and early data on shifts and pitcher tendencies etc All these factors were important and taken into consideration — as they should be.
We’ll see how it goes, but ideally you need to have good depth in your pen for this to work optimally. The same thinking applies to how staffs are used in playoff baseball. I believe for this to work we will need better stuff in our pen, and that means Joyce, Bachman and Chris Rodriquez, not Tepera, Moore and Estevez.
We’ll see.
How about smarter GMs/POBOs?
This team was built on QUANTITY NOT QUALITY. Like organizational depth vs elite position players where it matters (SS, 3B, #1SP) instead of Matt Thaiss and Sam Bachman types who don’t really have a bonafide position.
We’re the utility role and middle reliever/spot starter factory of MLB.
Not gonna rec for your comment, because it’s gonna be a setup for blame the field manager again……. 💪
I don’t think that’s a comment on the whole bullpen. It’s aimed at Estevez alone. Basically saying he was lousy in AZ and needs to prove himself before he’s named the closer.
Yeah, I think he’s kind of saying “Since nobody just ran away with the job why would I say something and limit myself?” Now he doesn’t have to give any “declared” closer a bunch of chances and rope. Who ever gets hot gets to pitch when there’s pressure.
Bullpen by committees, just another way in saying, “we aint got nobody that can do the job.”
Yeeeaaah.
The 1990 Cincinnati Reds had a BPBC and guess what they did……
I win again 💪
Here’s the silver bullet
Perry and Phil just need to ignore 80%er Nation and bolt him into the pen and LEAVE HIM THERE like the Doyers did 20 yrs ago with Eric Gagne!
That way we’ll have a good closer under 30 for the first time since K-Rod
i grew up in SoCal on UCLA basketball in the late 60s and 70s with John Wooden. Banner after banner. i even went to John Wooden BB camp two summers and still use his Pyramid as one basis for life principles. UCLA mens basketball was among the finest things growing up. I was into it. banner after banner.
skip ahead 1979 – my first college spring break finds me in Snowbird Utah to ski. Mens F4 was going on too at same time in SLC an hour away – Penn was there and some other teams.
skip ahead – out of a Baum story, i found my self enrolled at K-State in 1980-81 in Manhattan and i went to a mens BB game there with two thoughts, 1- tuned to what high-level college men’s college BB meant, and, 2- was sure to myself i would find nothing of the sort in the big 8 in the middle of nowhere Kansas.
Within minutes of my first game though, i was flabbergasted because i was seeing quite a high level of play here on this team from Farmsville – these cats were good and were a highly functioning team. At it also had two guys that would go on to long 10+ careers in NBA: Rolando Blackmon and Ed Neely. And so it went to the NCAA – on a historic March Saturday in 1981 still spoken of, Ro took out #2 Oregon State and we marched into the Elite 8. That was against UNC led by Perkins/Worthy and no we weren’t winning that.
Next year, only Ro graduated everyone else came back- and to show how great Ro was, we only made it to Sweet 16. That was it for the tournament, i graduated and during my time in Manhattan, we beat KU regularly.
skip ahead 1988 again in the Elite 8- this time against KU – the arch-rival. So we played a game for a birth in the Final 4 in KC, on the EXACT same court, just 3 weeks earlier we bullied around, thumped, and took the Big 8 Championship from by a wide margin. But f – Cats and Mitch Richmond just couldn’t do it with a trip to the Final Four — and KU with Danny Manning and Larry Brown win it all.
skip ahead 2018 – another chance to make it finally to the Final Four against little Loyola-Chicago, right?! Nope. Still no Final Four. 🙁
skip ahead 2023 – this Angel club looks solid enough to go all the way. And I hope San Diego State wins it all in Houston but mens college BB is a stupid sport.
Rooting for San Diego State….I’d be ok with the Hurricanes winning it too. Nice to see really old people (coach) do great things in today’s world.
And while we are at it, GO KINGS!!!
Heck yeah! SDSU vs Miami with SDSU winning it all. Down at Pacific Beach it was nuts yesterday. And a great Hockey game last night, 7-6 over the Blues. I wish Byfield would step up, I wanted Stützle so bad in that draft. Byfield does not have a strong motor but Kings looking strong.
Calling my second favorite sport stupid is like calling Baseball to slow. On any given night, any team can win. Now I think the NBA is, well, stupid 😆
Ha! You just totally Roll Bounced us.
Stassi to the IL would clear a path for Thaiss and O’Hoppe to make the opening day roster. Once Stassi is eligible to come back, I’m sure we’d see O’Hoppe sent to AAA.
But it would at least avoid exposing Thaiss to waivers.
You read my mind…or perhaps I read yours?
Perhaps we both just have great ones ha ha.
Yes. Honestly neither the Fletcher nor Stassi injuries hurt us on opening day. You could say they even help solve a problem. Thais will get some real MLB level ABs as one more chance to prove himself. And now Urshela can easily be in the lineup every day. The depth Perry built this offseason is already coming into play.
What’s wrong with Fletch? The article doesn’t mention him.
He is suffering from overextended expectations and also has a bad back from carrying to much “scrappy white guy just like me” bullshit on his back. Could be out a few days or few careers.
Trout just announced he will have more golf courses named after him than the number of playoff wins he has.
https://twitter.com/MikeTrout/status/1640351955984809985?s=20
Ouch! 🤣
Club president, Judge Arte Smails also announced that NO Playoff Format will be used in any tournament played at this course.
Trout National or Trout to the National League?
Or Trout to the Nationals?
I love ya, Mike, but that first announcement yesterday was a cheap trick.
It’s what they do these days on social media to hype an announcement. Just lame if you ask me.
Yep. I thought he was doing something charitable.
I mean… he’s done quite a bit of that already between Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Care and Share Lunches, Wounded Warrior Project, St Judes Children Research Hospital, Angels Baseball Foundation and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
I don’t think ANY of us were expecting a fenced off country club though, especially having his wife and kid involved with that promo.
That promo definitely hooked us. Then we got reeled in only to get clubbed once in the boat.
*add fishing reference to go with Trout National
We are not cute Harbor seal cubs
It’s the fact he does so much charity stuff that made me think he was announcing a charitable endeavor.
And the way he started the video talking about how much New Jersey means to him just added to it.
Poor Lana thought it was rugrat #2 announcement
I sure did. And I wasn’t the only one.
On the eve of a critical baseball season for the Angels, the focus is Trout’s New Jersey golf links which are to open in 2025?! The timing of this is silly. Could this not be announced after the season?
Ain’t That a Shame. Better call the Dream Police…is it a Cheap trick or does he just Want You to Want Him?
I see what you did there
Just Surrender and get it over with.
AWWRRR MEE GIRD! THIS AH DON LACK! RICH PEEPAL EEEEWWW! AH ONLIES SMAHL WHEN TROUT PLEEZUS ME! GIT TO WORK AN MAKE ME FEEL CHAMPIONISH FAT MAN! ONLY MASSAGE ME WIT YOUR MEATIA! SERVE MAH NEEDS MIKE! I GIT AHNGREY!
