LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Hardly seen thee

Good morning Angels fans! Enjoying baseball again? Have some links!

Angels News

With Bally being jerks, Angels fans barely got to see their team on tv and had to resort to other means. The one yesterday being Ohtani’s last game with the team until after the WBC. Oof. Angels won though.

Good Luck

Speaking of games, the one today is at 11 am due to weather reasons. BUT IT IS ON TV AT LEAST!

Around Baseball

Spring Training always sees some shenanigans that remind you that the games don’t count. This time it was when the Pirates wanted to get some reps in the bottom of the 9th in a game they won and the umps left, so they did it without umpires.

That Gavin Lux injury is an ACL. Also his LCL. Out for season. Maybe the Dodgers could use a Rengifo…

More injury news in the NL West. Joe Musgrove fractured his toe.

Seiya Suzuki is injured as well. Oblique strain.

Oh and Glasnow is out 6-8 weeks. Oblique as well.

$Guess who is trying to get around minimum wage laws again. Yep, MLB$.

The new clock rules are getting some enforcement as both batter and pitcher failed to be ready in time resulting in a 1-1 count before a pitch was thrown. People will adjust, both players and fans. I mean they better, as this is a huge change. A whole inning can go by faster than a single pitch sometimes.

WOW

Besides, they are richer than ever, as the average MLB salary is now at 4.22 million. I wish I had a million dollars.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes!

Heard “Let’s trade Walker Bueler for Adames and Burnes” from Doyer fan/independent minded broadcaster today.

It’s good to know that other fans are stupid too.

I also don’t care what old man baseball says. Give it a year with the pitch clock and even most MLB players will pitch a fit if they go back to the old way where everyone gets to stand around watching professional ball throwers think for 20 minutes a night. Fans will just switch the channel if they get used to faster games and then have to sit through a bunch of jewelry adjustments again in the future.

The clock’s not going anywhere.

gut punch today as a Kings fan –

(i’m not a big jersey guy in any sport, but the first one i finally did buy was Quick)

i get it that this is EXACTLY what’s best for the team itself – but just bummed and stunned

It makes business sense. But still…

And this will be us as Angels fans when Shohei is traded midseason.

Or when everyone else is traded to pay Shohei.

Shohei is $30 million today. $50 million if we sign him. An additional 20 million, +10% to the “big guy” Shohei’s mom +$2 Mil….that’s an additional $22 million needed.
Just get rid of Loup and Stassi and save $14 Million..Down to $8 million needed…Charge another quarter per beer, little less cheese on the nachos, buy hotdogs from local Wet Market, fire entire legal staff (expensive for Arte) pay “Zoom Dick” Jeffrey Toobin a retainer fee to handle his legal fights, that shouldn’t be hard…..look in couch cushions for change..done.

There, I just paid for Shohei.

Yeah, not big on that trade at all. Don’t like what the Kings acquired.

Two things I noticed:

Today is an 11:10am start.

Davidson manana not Canning.

Does anyone know how the owners feel about the new pitch clock rules?

Seems like shorter games will have a pretty significant impact on food and alcohol sales at the stadium. I am assuming that owners get a big cut of that revenue, so I am surprised they were ok with it.

The best part about going to an Angels game now is that the food line will take 4 innings instead of 3… 🙄

My guess is the regular season game broadcasts will probably remain about the same, but with longer commercial breaks. They want to speed up the action, but increase the advertising space. They really don’t (if my hypothesis is correct) want to shorten games. They want to sell more commercials.

Maybe they get better ratings with faster games, more eyeballs, that will keep advertising rates up.

Haven’t heard of an increase in time between innings…………..Yet.

Yes, that is possible. Like I said, it’s a hypothesis, and one I posted in comments back on HH. Neither have I heard/read about it, it’s just how my brain works.
Crocodiles usually give a public-facing reason for their actions when they have other motives. “We want to speed up the action to keep/get younger audiences engaged” smells like the PR BS front to “we are going to compress the baseball and increase advertising revenue.” I have no motive, as a baseball fan to want it to be true, and I hope I’m wrong.
It would be a great statistical study, avg break pre-pitch-clock vs with. I bet that a study has already been projected by MLB…because someone would “pitch the pitch clock” to mlb owners WITH those very numbers and projected ad revenue to convince them to do it.

maybe a faster game = better product = more people in seats = more concession sales

Then there’s always…

  • better, faster service
  • more in-seat delivery
  • ???
  • Profit!

Possible MLB answer to the broadcast problems.

MLB sets up local media group, could broadcast 17 teams | FOX Sports

Makes sense. MLB basically hired Ballys and Sportsnet executives to do for MLB’s own network what they were doing for the RSNs. Smells to me like MLB is tired of the old model and said F it, we’ll do it ourselves.

Ohtani gone. Trout gone soon. We’re about to hit the Moniak/Jordyn Adams era of daily Spring Training lineups.

yes, the Dodger game Friday at Diablo looks like the last legit spring game before seeing a lot of SLC/Rocket City ball.

Why does anybody on this site care what the frickin Dodgers “need” ??

We are not here to service them, whether it be by delivering Rengifo on a silver platter, or Ohtani or any other of our really good or especially useful players,

Well, how about Rengifo and Adell for Mookie Betts?

Stripling and Joc were trash that season. I doubt we would have re-signed either of them. We would have hated Rengifo doing well with the dodgers. Plus we don’t know who the dodgers wanted to complete the trade.

We may not have a big name playing at SS in 2023, but I bet our Angels SS plays better than whoever plays SS for the Dodgers. I do feel bad for Gavin Lux though as he was going to finally going to get his chance for a shot to be a big-league SS and on a contending team to boot. Heal fast kid, “MLB and the Dodgers will be here waiting for you next season.

Call me Crazy, but I believe we have a better record this season than the cross-town rivals.

Good morning, from inside my igloo in snowy mountains of SoCal. Hope your day goes well too. 😀 To me it’s sad that professional Baseball can’t afford to beam in the early Spring Training games to its fans. IMHO.

Trivia time, who had the most consecutive seasons of stealing at least one base without being caught? This player was so good he is in the MLBHOF. He stole at least one base successfully 10 straight years. Ricky Henderson? Nah. Lou Brock maybe? Nope. Tim Raines possibly, no way.

Drum roll please, and the answer is, ready, Greg Maddux 😂

I was going to guess Maddox but you didn’t give me chance to answer
