Let’s assemble the best possible Angels team by letter of the alphabet to begin a player’s last name. Today is L. 56 men whose last name started with “L” played major league baseball in an Angels uniform.
C – Jim Leyritz
1B – Jonathan Lucroy
2B – Tommy LaStella
3B – Carney Lansford
SS – Torey Lovullo
OF – Fred Lynn
OF – Joe Lahoud
OF – Rufino Linares
DH – Ken Landreaux
Some big bats here and a few gloves but thin after the marquee greats Lansford and Lynn. Landreaux did wonders in Minnesota after Autry traded him for Rod Carew, but only had a 79 OPS+ early in hi carer here … and it was still enough to make this squad!
SP – John Lackey
SP – Mark Langston
SP – Don Lee
RP – Bob Lee
RP – Al Levine
Two all time greats, Lackey and Langston, each with over 1,400 innings pitched wearing a Halo, and a damn good bullpen.
Carney Lansford is one of my favorites of all time. It was so exciting when he made the team in 1978 and he became such a great hitter.
That was definitely one of our worst all time trades. To think somehow Hobson was going to replace him at third was ridiculous. I know the prize of that trade was the Rooster and I dont think anyone thought he would blow out his shoulder but still considering all those great years Carney had with the bash brothers teams we really screwed this trade up.
One thing though I have always wondered though, was if Landsford was juicing. he looked much bigger in Oakland and I think it would have been kind of hard to be around all of that shit and not be influenced by it.
It was a terrible tragedy trading him
I think I would reverse Lucroy With Leyritz. Even though Leyritz caught more games for us then Lucroy, Leyritz played more games at first base. Lucroy looked more comfortable behind the plate while Leyritz actually knew what he was doing at first.
This team would Lose a lot of games.
Kick save by Lazorko!!
