Let’s assemble the best possible Angels team by letter of the alphabet to begin a player’s last name. Today is F. 51 men whose last name started with “F” played major league baseball in an Angels uniform.
C – Jorge Fabregas
1B – Cecil Fielder
2B – David Fletcher
3B – David Freese
SS – Jim Fregosi
OF – Dan Ford
OF – Chone Figgins
OF – Junior Felix
DH – Brad Fullmer
Three members of the 2002 squad make the cut although Fabregas was released before Figgy arrived. Fullmer might have been on the juice, hush. Jim Fregosi belongs on an Angels Mount Rushmore and the trade for David Freese doesn’t seem as terrible as it was when his 106 OPS+ is examined among Angels F bats alone.
SP – Chuck Finley
SP – Ken Forsch
SP – Dave Frost
RP – Art Fowler
RP – Brian Fuentes
Great starting staff here, historic even. The greatest Angels starting pitcher in terms of duration is Chuck “Fin to Win” Finley. The bullpen avoids adding Ernesto Frieri when you see original Angel Art Fowler’s 124 ERA+ out of the pen 1961-64.
Taylor Featherston just missed I assume
This is a pretty solid squad both offensively and defensively and has Finley. I like this one.
Figgins
Fregosi
Freese
Fielder
Fullmer
Fabregas
Ford
Felix
Would probably be the order. Or something close to it. Speed at the top, decent power in the middle, tails off towards the end.
Not a bad lineup And I agree with Felix batting 9th considering we now know he was really Senior Felix instead of Junior Felix.
But why bat Disco Dan 8th? he had a couple of good years for us until his bat broke and rained superballs on the plate. Fabregas should be batting at least as low as 8th ( or 9th in the Scioscia patented catcher bats 8th lineup) Jorge was never much of a hitter even in his second tour of duty.
It was cork I think, not superballs. But I get your point. Nonetheless, he was a dynamic bat with excellent power to RF as well.
Ford needs to bat higher in the lineup.
Our Fielder was washed up so Ford has the best power in the list. He should bat cleanup.
Fielder didnt add much, maybe find a spot for Tim Foli. Gene Mauch would.
Brian Fuentes really bugged me with his delivery.
Especially his 2 strike delivery to ARod.
That HR wouldn’t even have been warning track in any other stadium in the league.
And came right after an obvious strike three was called a ball.
frisbee toss
Rev you get an A for this F Troop especially with Fregosi and Fin to Win in the lineup.
But I Got to pick a nit though. Fabregas was not released he was actually traded to Milwaukee for Alex Ochoa & Sal Fasano in a rare Stoneman deadline deal. Considering that we already had both Molinas on the roster, I thought this was a worthwhile trade as Ochoa had an .850 OPS and key hits in 75 PA’s in the heat of the pennant race.
Pujols should be included here. Every time I saw his name in the lineup, I said “f–k.”
No Figgy at third, too bad, but at least he made the team,
This ones pretty darn good.
I’d give every Angel team since 2014 an F
We finnished over .500 in ’15 though, so, I think maybe a C+ there.
Okay. I’ll give that to you
lost the last game of the year, a win would have forced a tie for the wild card (if I remember right).
This is the best team we’ve seen so far. I’m looking forward to seeing if Grant Green makes the G team.
I have the fainting couch ready for Christie!
F this Team!
