Shohei Ohtani shines (as usual) as Angels walk it off in 12

Angels 2 Astros 1

Last weekend, the Angels scored 22 runs. This weekend, however, is not off to a great start. Through the 6th inning, the Angels were limited to a depressing 2 hits – both doubles – both by David Fletcher in his first two at bats. In total, the Angels mustered 3 hits and 2 runs and it was enough!

As an aside, who else is really digging these city connect unis? I was semi indifferent when they first came out, but I love these unis and they rank up there with the early 80s v-necks for me. Back to the game.

Ohtani is pure filth. Exhibit A:

Ohtani escaped a jam based loaded jam in the 6th (no thanks to Max Stassi whose catcher interference juiced the bases)

Not exactly a huge offensive surge, but things got pretty exciting for the Angels in the 7th when Rengifo and Ward advanced to 3rd and 2nd on a sac fly and Ryan Aguilar followed that up with his first career RBI – a sac fly to right field to knot the game up at 1.

The offense was pretty lethargic tonight but they got it done. Matt Duffy drove in the game winning RBI in the 12th. Angels are cool and the Astros drool!

Would you have been happy having both those guys on the roster with their 2021 stats?

The bullpen is starting to come around and the starting rotation is looking good. Just in time to give me hope for spring 2023.

…..: aaaannd, then to be let down again.

In classic Nuttercup fashion.

However, IF a new owner is in place just maybe that changes the mojo of this team and organization????

Yes, another great game by Shohei. Making a run at Judge for MVP. It will be tough but need Yankee meltdown and Judge not to eclipse 61 homers.

Catching Judge in WAR will change the narrative. Then it can’t all be ‘HR’

The shine in Judge eclipsing 61 homers in a so-called rigorous drug testing environment, will persuade writers to vote for Judge. WAR is insignificant. Vegas odds still have Judge at -1400 and Ohtani next at +600.

Yes, off-shore sports books also have Judge as the prohibitive favorite.

That is not insignificant.

All that said, the odds don’t necessarily mean that Judge should be the MVP.

Odds are a snapshot based on the narrative. If (big if) the narrative changes, then the odds will likely change as well.

I think if Ohtani catches Judge in WAR, even as he hits more HR, there will be more talk about how historic Ohtani’s achievements are. The more wins, Ks and HRs Ohtani hits, the better.

The Yankees losing down the stretch doesn’t help Judge’s case either.

And, obviously, i’m talking about Duffy.

I think they had 4 hits. Halos had 3 hits through 11, and then Duffy’s RBI.

“That” being a 100 mph sinker to strike out a guy who looked like he had no chance in hell.

Exactly, what’s Aaron Judges ERA? Not as exceptional as Shohei’s. Truth.

Why didn’t Arte let them score more runs?

Has he been seen at the stadium since the news of him exploring selling the team broke out?

I saw a beastly Benz during Yankees series that corresponds to typical Arte parking locale

And where exactly does Arte park ???

Three questions marks, eh?

The spots are a row of unmarked spaces alongside the Dugout Suite parking zone.

I’ve seen him drive up and get out several times and one time walked with him to the gates from that spot in that exact car, FWIW.

Jackie has parked there at least twice by my recollection and she was driving a much more economical Toyota Avalon. .
