Angels drop 7th straight in soggy Thursday matinee

Angels 1 Yankees 6

For our shared sanity, I’ll keep this one short and sweet.

The Angels needed a pivotal victory to snap a long losing streak. They didn’t get it. Shohei Ohtani, usually sharp on the mound, was not, surrendering three home runs with few swinging strikes in just three innings. Yankees starter Nestor Cortes, on the other hand, was dealing (7 strikeouts through seven innings).

Aaron Judge hit a home run.

Mike Trout struck out three times.

As a baserunner, Ohtani got picked off at first base.

A routine double play ball hit the second base umpire and instead was ruled a hit, turning a GIDP into runners at second and third base.

It was not a great game.

Once again the glitz and the glitter of the Big Apple was too much and overwhelming for Ohtani. Only 3 inn on the mound..??? Certainly expected more from an “ace.” First it was Thor who sucked and now this…….

1-5 with a H and 2 K’s at the plate. At least he got a hit. Definitely no “Sho-time” today…

Trout sucked too with 3 strikeouts. So there’s enough blame to go around.

6 games back and in freefall..

Let’s hope Detmers can end the suckage.

I doonah like losing to the Yankees, nor do I like 7 in a row.

Thing is, now, if the Angels lose say 9 in a row, but then go 20-5 their next 25, CoachDad and Doomer can complain about the inconsistency of the team and site the 1990 Reds or what ever. So at least we’ll have that this year, even if we do something lame like go to the WS.

Try and lay it at the owner’s, FO’s, GM’s, or manager’s feet but this current brown streak is mostly due to PLAYERS sucking. Not even the players we like to complain about like RenDuffy. Our “good” players.

I said it all off season, I’ll say it again, there is no level of depth or GM Magic that can compensate for Trout, Rendon and Ohtani being hurt or sucking ass. Add to that major pitchers (also Ohtani) sucking and POOF…. losing streak.

Rengifo, Duffy, Ward, Ortega, Sandoval, Herget, Marsh, Velazquez…. playing those support guys has not been the problem.

The good news is I have more faith that guys lie Thor, Trout, Ohtani, Raisel etc can get their heads out of their asses than I would Juan Lugares.

True! I can only speak for myself, but beyond the maybe resting guys too aggressively, anything Joe has done has, for the most part, is do his best with what he’s been given. At this point, 15 GMs in 2 years later, I don’t know how anyone can blame the GM beyond anything but “partially”. Definitely a larger issue than one or two people at any rate. That’s why I’m leaning more and more into pushing for a rebuild (that will never happen, especially with my attitude!).

And of course everyone will change their tune if we go 20-5 for the next 25. I mean, heck, what if we go 70-5 over the next 75!? I bet those “doomers” will eat crow! Nobody knows what will happen in the future of course, and like the market, past performance is not necessarily indicative of the future, however, that past (and current) performance is all we have right now, and I think it’d be disingenuous to not call a spade a spade.

Here’s to hoping though.

The Angels need to have a closed door meeting if they haven’t done so yet. 7 losses in a row and it doesn’t look like it’s changing. Maybe it’s time to bring back Adell and platoon him and Marsh everyday. They’re struggling so bad, might as well let the young guys play and maybe they can spark something with their energy. Maddon needs to stick to a more consistent Lineup, Speed up top, Power in the middle, and speed at the bottom of the order. Game 2 Lineup looks decent for who is available.

The lineup situation needs to get figured out. There is no reason why Rengifo should be batting higher than 8th. Vazquez is an offensive liability. Players be getting too many days off in a row. Cut the rotation down to 5. Give Ohtani days off from being DH. The 7 game losing streak is disgusting because the games have not been close, usually out of reach few innings into the game. Even during Sundays game, I knew that the Angels were not going to hold on to the lead. Everyone did. So much bad going on.

Disagree on the 5 man rotation, stick it out with the 6 man rotation. During their losing streak the Bullpen has imploded, it had more to do with the Bullpen than the Starters. However, yeah some of the the Starting pitching has been rough during that stretch. The last 2 games vs New York have not been close, but the Blue Jays series I beg to differ. Could have won at least 3 out of 4 if not for the Bullpen blowing up. Rengifo has been the Offense vs New York, so at this point he can bat in the middle of the order. Walsh needs to remain in the Cleanup spot or 5th position of the batting order moving forward.

This team has been shit since they canceled the Stadium deal. I really think it actually affected the players. It shouldn’t but it did.

Glad I was at work and it was impossible for me to watch/listen to the game.

I was powerless to turn the radio on in my work truck.
