Angels again lose to team in blue. 4-3.

Chase Silseth was in college this time last year but on the hill in the Big A tonight. It was a packed house for Star Wars night.

He wasn’t the sharpest tonight. He allowed two runs but left with 2 on and 1 out in the fifth. The score remained tied at 2 after 5 thanks to Jimmy Herget pitching out of the jam.

The Angels put theyr two on the board thanks to a Squid RBI single and a bomb by Walsh.

In the “words I thought I’d never type” department, Tyler Wade hit a home run to give the Angels the lead. 3-2.

Aaron Loup had a bad 7th inning, coughing up 3 straight singles and the lead. But Ryan Tepera was able to stop the carnage and the score was tied 3-3 at the stretch.

Oliver Ortega was brilliant in the 8th, striking out the meat of Toronto’s lineup in order. The Angels git absolutely hosed on a horrible third stroke call to end the inning. 3-3 going to the 9th.

Enter D Cell in a tie game. After a lead off single and a sacrifice bunt moved the go shed run into scoring position, Guirrell Jr punched it in thanks to a defensive miscue by Juan “ Gold Glove” Lagares.

Either the Angels suck when playing teams in blue or when I sign up for the post game article. Data is inconclusive. But I’m taking tomorrow off, so we’ll find out.

Why is Marsh batting behind Kurt? If Kurt gets on and the speedy Marsh will run over him.

Funny stuff that was seen coming, Anaheim city council proved that not only do they know what’s best for their city now but proved they can see what’s good for the future. Genius, just genius.

So Long Beach with May Gray, June Gloom will be nice to go see games in Winter like conditions and with only one FWY (710) close by. Las Vegas, doubt you sell 3 million tickets there. MLB owners might go for that and watch the Rays move into SoCal. Heck even an old Big A will look good as a home to them. I hear Bakersfield needs a team. Or maybe the Dodgers will vacate Rancho for Anaheim with their low A team.

Let’s review, in the last 5 years The Anaheim city folks have pissed on or off depending how you see it, both Disney and the Angels. These are smart leaders elected to oversee the city.

Frankly, I am still a little appalled that we couldn’t do better than Juan Lagares. I do understand that there are a couple of Halo OF prospects that we don’t want to start the clock on yet, but guddam sam…..Juan Lagares!?

p.s…………………………Juan Lagares!?

Agree on Lagares. Looks rather rotund these days. I’m not sure there are solid prospects outside of Adell in the organization.. Maybe two at low A. There is Monte Harrison at SLC. I think I would rather see him than GG.

Can we just stop with playing guys out of position? Whether it is a day of rest or subbing for an injury. Just leads to shit like last night. Both GM and Manager are complicit.

I asked. The answer is no. they said no. Then they pointed out that it’s not 1997 anymore. So no, they won’t stop playing guys in several spots.

Lagares was rotund last year but the fact he signed so late and was rushed to Anaheim really shows his rustiness. The Angels must not think much of Harrison (why would they since he’s batting .200 at AAA) , Dillon Thomas or Sierra if they brought up Whitefield all the way from AA. So the Angels really need to figure out their fourth outfielder situation as Perry really dropped the ball on this one.

Even if Jo Adell is the ultimate answer in RF he’s not helping his own cause right now.

Despite their ongoing offensive slump, The Angels primarily lost last nights game due to inept defense. I dont blame Maddon for last night’s loss the knuckleheads he’s forced to work with are ultimately on Perry not him.

The Blue Jays first run scored after Lagares botched the catch at the RF foul pole that resulted in a GRD. The Blue Jays scored their third run when Rengifo couldn’t handle a hard hit ball up the middle. The Blue Jays scored their 4th run after Rengifo failed to set his feet after fielding Kirk’s ground ball up the middle thereby throwing the ball away. Of Course the 4th run ultimately scored when the Gold Glover misplayed the ball in right field but there should not have been anyone on base.

A championship team does not make this many inept plays during a game even when they’re slumping on offense.

Good points here Cowboy.

I think you are the only other regular poster here besides me who understands that a manager is not to blame for the roster he has. I have said many times before that “you have to play who is on your roster.”

This is particularly true when it comes to pitchers since they cannot pitch everyday and need to be rotated. Maddon would therefore have to pitch all these guys at some point. I don’t think alot of people understand that concept. It is true however that for the most part in any individual game the manager can choose who to pitch in relief and when (except when somebody is “not available” due to minor healthy issue or workload/too many days consecutively). I did think Maddon made a mistake to take Herget out for Loup, and I also think he erred in removing Ortega when he was rolling and had not thrown alot of pitches the prior half-inning. In addition, in the top of the 9th it was still tied. If he had let Ortega pitch one more inning he would have saved Iggy as another “bullet in his gun” so to speak.

All that said, you are however correct in everything you said about our defense. We were very bad last night in that area. The one thing left out was the review/reversal which I felt was the biggest factor in our loss. As others pointed out, there was not conclusive evidence to allow the call on the field to be overturned. That is exactly what the League and the umpires did though. We seem to get the short end of the stick in these situations very frequently…

I agree with both of you. I would just add that this is not a deep roster so there will often be a fail, whether it’s defense, starting pitching, weak bullpen, or hitting. The shit rolls uphill from Maddon, to Minasian, to cheap Moreno who doesn’t want to invest in anything besides Mike Trout and over the hill aging free agents who put in their best years for their previous teams. The current one is Rendon, but there will always be the next one.

Herget was cruising so why Loop, Loop to IL as he is obviously broken.
Ortega was on fire, so why D-Cell, not a closing situation.
Lugares (GG)? Do we have anyone, other than Adell at AAA that can play defense with a mediocre bat?
I heard that we have won 3 out of 13 challenges on the field, I wonder what is the record against us by other teams.
Last weekend I had to watch games on the Oakland feed, so before the series Bally had Westec doing field interviews and now we have a new blonde on the field, what happened?
Let the courtship begin as Arte has agreed to void purchase of stadium/

As much as a clown show Joe “Mr. Magoo” Maddon is, Iglesias was never going to get a save opportunity last night as the game was tied in the last official inning and being at home, he would never need to close out a game in extras. Cannot fault him for wanting his best reliever throw an inning to give his team a chance to win it before the ghost-runner anything-can-happen, extra innings. Besides, Ortegas effectiveness wanes after tossing 1-inning. But I do recognize Magoos seat of the pants style handling of the pen.

JackFrost

Reply to  FungoAle

He might not have had a save opportunity, however, if you let Ortega pitch the 9th and the game stays tied into extras then you still would have Raisel as a bullet in your gun because you had not burned him.

Please do. Everyone should go and complain at the owner. Actually, it would even be more effective to complain to Roger Lodge than type out the same thing for the 100th time on CtPG. He at least works closely with the org.

Look, I finally found a use for Roger Lodge halo honks! If all the seething malcontents on here actually called The Lodge with their wisdom regularly it would actually give the org a more public and tangible sense of how unhappy some folks are…. and how many of those people there are.

Huh. It’s all personal taste so no one’s wrong, but I actually don’t like the Angels normal unis cause they don’t look classic to me. They look like really boring late 90s design by robot “3D depth” garbage to me. If the Angels just had some custom version of their name in cursive and a flat, not facetted, A+halo on their hats it would look more classic to me. I’d like it more. Like the Nationals how now kind of….

Is Jack Mayfield still on the team? Bring him up/back to play 3rd base. Wade or Duffy to play 2nd base. Walsh plays 1st base everyday. Is it time to put Ohtani in Right Field if Ward can’t go? I’m sure he’ll do a better job than Wade, Lagares, Adell, etc. I mean he was a decent Right Fielder in Japan and has a cannon arm. (Half joking/half serious only if he’s fully healthy).
