Good Morning Angels fans! You do read these in the morning, right? Anyway, have some links!
Angels News
The Angels loss last night. No, I won’t elaborate. In fact, yesterday didn’t happen. What game?
Angel Stadium has yet another hold up on being sold, again. Corruption this time. Who talks about what your bribe price would be on the PHONE?!
Former Angel Matt Harvey got suspended for distributing drugs. Well, we knew that this was coming when he had to confess it in court. At least he is immune from the feds on this.
We need to talk about Shohei Ohtani more, no matter what bad sports journalists say. After all, he is the most searched baseball pitcher of all time!
Speaking of pitchers, Chase Silseth looks to be legit. Yay good pitching!
Around Baseball
We are in deep enough in the season for some team stats to normalize. Like Batting Average for Balls in Play or BABIP.
Well that seems great, what about pitching and hitting? Apparently, Angels in good quadrant.
No, but really, how is the hitting? Well, looks great for On Base AND Slugging.
How does the baseball look like out of the hand anyway? Well, this chart helps explain it.
Robot Umps come to the PCL. Ah, victory!
Welp, looks like pitchers are getting injured again. Big names too.
Once again, cheating is never worth it as a Brewers’ reliever got busted for performance enhancing drugs. STOP CHEATING!
I remember growing up being told to look for the dot when identifying a slider. My eyes and reaction time are too bad, so it didn’t really help me, but I imagine that these images are fairly accurate.
Help me out here, The Big A started out as Angels Stadium, then Edison Field, then Angels Stadium, then the Big A? I really like the fact that we are the Big A and not a corporate named stadium.
Not that it matters but how did we go from a studio at the Big A to a studio in Santa Monica? Was Arte charging to much?
Where is “Anaheim Stadium” in your timeline there?
And it was “Edison International Field of Anaheim.” What a lame name.
The Big A started as Anaheim Stadium. Then Edison Field of Anaheim then Angels Stadium. its always been known as the Big A
I was thinking 8-4 in this stretch vs Oakland and Texas would be ok. Now we have to finish 5-1.
I’m just sort of kidding but it’s possible Perry has put together a very good 37 game team. Meltdowns by Iggy, then Thor, then Tep are only a concern until they pitch next. I expect better results. (“It can’t get no worse”, as the Beatles sang)
If we win today we’ll be on pace to win 101. A loss means we’d be on pace to win 97, still pretty good! But let’s win!
I think finishing the next 6 games at 5-1 would be nice, and we just might be ready for a roll of wins from here until 4th of July. But sports teams from their own level just like water does. But if this team has any balls, they will right the ship starting tonight and keep it going.
wonder if Arte checks in with Long Beach or Tustin. Or Irwindale or Carson.
seems like there’ll be a big backlash on this in Anaheim and maybe now the best option is to go find a place more amenable.
Between the !0 and 60 at the 57 would be great. Train tracks, 3 freeways with the 210 close and the 15 not far.
Oo, my (original) backyard, I approve!
The ship already sailed. Any hope of a stadium went away with the Rams building SoFi
Ventura, SBD Co’s too. As long as staying out of DTN Los Angeles can be done, then it can be done, forgot Crypto Arena (Staples Ctr) Fontana Speedway got built. Forget about Los Angeles and OC if things are supposedly that bad. The Chargers could’ve moved to Las Vegas before the Raiders did, and BTW so what if Anaheim balks, I’m sure the LA Coliseum didn’t like it when the Dodgers moved out of there either.
Probably my favorite little graphic you’ve made. Really funny.
I keep saying it, but I’m shocked Arte wants to take on the stadium and development at his age. This is, by far, the hardest state in which to do business. At best he’s going to face endless obstacles even if everything is on the up and up. At worst, he’s not on the up and up and it blows up in his face big time.
Not something I’d want to take on at his age.
And I have seen no talk of a succession plan. At least when Jerry Buss, died you knew which incompetent offspring would run that team into the ground.
Considering the past actions of his senior management (Perry excluded) , we should all be really concerned about the future of this ball club.
Arte’s wife ? I think her name is Carole.
We could have another Georgia Frontiere situation. Fun.
😩
You forgot Jackie.
Jackie turned out to be okay, I think.
She seemed to care about winning and she did a decent job of deligating and not meddling.
That’s not funny, and if true we are really in trouble.
Unless Carole’s a multi time married ex vaudevillian actress who would hire mobsters to make sure her husband doesn’t come back from his morning swim, You got nothing to worry about.
I guess my reference was more about general incompetence. But you’re right. It would be hard to be as bad as GF.
Rachel Phelps.
Or Jackie “Small Market” Autry
Conversely, they do not need to make any succession plans known to fans.
But at least they need to make a HBO Max series about how the Moreno ownership sausage was made. I want to see who the little Jeanie Moreno is?
The shower room scene where Rengifo confirms to the team that he actually did is own DIY circumcision. And I want to hear the real story behind Jerry Dipoto’s secret adoption of Roberto Baldoquín from Cuba.
Not a bad idea. but I think I’ll skip the DIY Briss episode though.
Yes, the Briss episode could be messy. But remember, Rengifo can’t hit the cut off man. .
HEY-O!!!!
That’s just not a viable excuse anymore……
See the NY Mets (Citi Field), SF Giants (Oracle Park), SoFi Stadium.
Go move elsewhere in the immediate area (Pasadena, Inglewood, IE, Long Beach) and still keep your Cable TV deal money. Orange County is very expensive anyway.
The Giants built their stadium back when we tolerated business here, but SoFi is brand new.
SoFi was buying privately held ground, which is a major difference.
Also, Inglewood pretty much let that whole thing grow in a big Gray Area as far as skirting development laws and stuff. I would also be totally shocked if there WASN’T a bunch of bribes getting SoFi built.
But that’s why you build in a flight path on the sight of a failing horse track in a town that is begging for ANYTHING to come and not suck instead of Anaheim.
Arte’s TV deal’s almost done isn’t it? I bet if he decides to get out and sell the team it’ll be around then if the stadium sale turns into a death march. Then we can get bought by Frodus Conglomerate International and be part of their constellation of brands. CtPG is gonna love it.
The conglomerate working great for the Dodgers and Braves. Don’t see the yearly scandals and embarrassing incompetence coming from those types either.
But I get it. You love the taste of Arte’s boots for some unknown reason so to each their own.
California is the worst state to do business anymore. Why any business and that includes sports teams are still here is beyond me. This is a God awful state now.
What is it exactly you’re happy with? So now we learn it’s California you’re not happy about, and we have been enlightened every night happy you are with the fan favorite Angels team and how cheap Arte is. It’s hard for you to be happy and content with things around you. Why do you live in this God Awful State?
Yes, I do want to move out of this God awful state as quickly as possible. My entire family is in the process of moving back east. They don’t call this Commiefornia for nothing. We are the most taxed state with the highest gas prices. The job market here has sucked now for a few years. We have the worst governor of any state. Shall I go on.
We do have good baseball teams to talk about……except the A’ss.
Yes, and hopefully the Angels make the playoffs this year. They are definitely close.
Mississippi has high gas prices too!
Everybody is still hiring what news are you believing?
I am 100% certain he’s happy to have a website where he can vent.
He might be unhappy at the layout though. A pox on your editing options!
Sports teams stay here because large cities = large TV deals. And, let’s be real, this is a great state to be rich in. So the suites are full and the players can look at the ocean and eat great food.
This is really only a bad place to be a business owner and/or middle class.
Yes, I agree that if you are rich this is a great state to be in. Sad for the normal business owner and the middle class.
We’ll there’s a trade off conundrum here
How much infrastructure do you want and need? Do you want nice cities like Amsterdam in the Netherlands or West Virginia or Guatemala?
For all the bad news about people leaving CA, there’s also a 4-6 month waiting list on available homes for sale. A fixer upper in Cupertino sold for a $1M (yes that’s true). As in a DIY network Detroit $1 program special.
thinking about Arte’s other team today, his legal team.
The man employs a few lawyers eh?
I’d guess the top club is his stadium team that works with the city and state to get his city in. That squad just got a big setback this week- oh well more fees for them.
Then the Skaggs issue/ quiet right now but it’s got a long way to run. Are they a separate firm that the team that handles the stadium?
The other matter was the wrongful termination by the clubbie. Did that wrap?
Are we keeping stats on Arte’s other team? The Stadium squad had a terrible week- aren’t they there and paid a lot of $$$$ to protect Arte from this kind of mess? Maybe he should send them down to handle matters in Huntsville- they’ve created a mess worse than the 1999 angels here in Anaheim. I’d like to see a new facility and these clowns are ruining it.
Arte likely has a very small legal department, possibly just a general counsel, who will help with things like the contracts for the stadium deal. They will hire outside law firms for litigation with specialties in the appropriate area (e.g. wrongful death, employment law.)
I heard that Rengifo was a paralegal on cheap Arte’s legal team. It’s why he sends so much time on the MLB roster.
Well that would make sense if this was all about legal privilege. But I betcha some of those law books he’s studying are about U.S. extradition laws
Wishing for a speedy recovery for David Fletcher (and never to see Rengifo on The Angels again)
Oh yes, please!
For some reason espn.com is counting Tommy La Stella’s stats for only 2 games and 6 AB’s as valid for leading MLB !! They have him listed above Ward in SLG., OBP and OPS. lol.
Angels continue to get no love.
Brando is brilliant !!
My head has been telling me that Tepera has been a liability during the month of May. Then last night happened and I felt really strongly that I was correct.
After further review, turns out he’s been fine and last night just sucked majorly. He’s outperforming his FIP (well not anymore, he’s basically even on ERA/FIP now) but I had this weird idea he’d been letting IRs score and walking a crap ton of batters.
The new immutable rule is do not let native Texans pitch in Texas. EZ PZ
Today is a must win.
Counting on Ohtani to be sharp and have his best stuff.
That means no walks unlike the last time you faced Rangers here Shohei !!!
We can’t afford to fall behind 2-0 or 3-0 today. We need a solid outing.
I thought yesterday was a must win. And I’m guessing Friday will be as well. But I can assure that tomorrow will not be a must win.
Today is a “must win” primarily because we have to avoid being swept by an inferior team ! Or swept at all for that matter.
The only reason I’m here at all is because I’m used to reading this now!
Bullpen Meltdown!!! I know it happens but I don’t have to like it.
The only difference between the Anaheim Mayor and other career politicians is that the Mayor got caught for campaign-contribution bribery.
It all comes down to the Quid Pro Quo. If they can’t prove it, he’s just like every other politician in good standing in this country
Squid Pro Quo? Velazquez?
Dino “See no” Ebel.
This one is 100% mine by the way. Best Angel nickname eva. I am counting coaches of course…

5 spots for Rays, Jays, White Sox, Guardians, Angels, Yankees, Twins, Asstros. That is if some of the others do not reappear to give everyone here grief. Those that think or say it’s a long season, wait until August and September. Well, the ’69 Cubs and ’64 Phillies waited and got passed in the standings. Wins today in May count as much as those later on, maybe more so as injuries are always a part of the equation. Angels are going to roll down the line.
Good morning, I have to admit that being a fan of the Angels is tougher this year than most of recent vintage Angels teams for the simple fact we are playing below what we should be playing at. For us to click, to hit all 8 cylinders and passing gear we need all hands-on deck. Meaning all the starting position players, playing. All good teams need leaders, not just one, but 2 or three. A leader of the infield, a leader in the Outfield, a leader in the dugout and a leader in the clubhouse.
Trout should be and in most instances is, the guy that leads by example, sets the tone out on the field. Walsh is a similar type to lead by example. Dugout leaders are much more outgoing, butt slappers, rah-rah types that allow guys to feel loose going to the on-deck circle or trotting out to positions. Humor helps to keeps things loose too.
Clubhouse leader is the toughest and hardest job, usually takes 2 or 3 here. Being tough to discipline when needed, singling out great performances and explaining why they were great. One on One with guys for helping them out with issues that are affecting them. Leaders use humor, toughness, empathy, and knowledge to work things out in a direction to benefit the group as a whole.
I’m not sure who the leaders are on the team currently, but I do know that the best leaders lead by example. How do the players respond when everyone is on some type of rotation to take days off. Last week I said that in a Thursday day game Trout should not have taken the day off. The next day was a travel day. Plain and simple, the team needs Trout to play as much as he can at either playing in the OF or DH. OK, day games are not his thing, but his presence in the line-up is important and he needs to play.
It is my contention that Joe needs to go with a fixed line-up for a while and that by doing so players can fix the current issues that they are having with batting. Shohei and Walsh are having problems with down and away. Marsh recognizing the incoming pitch and his strikeout rate is way to high. As a team we have a high strikeout rate.
We are just a tweak away from getting this Train rolling down the track again. We can crash down the Asstros and take this division.
Awesome graphics this morning
It’s going to be a fine season but I’m starting to fret about getting just one WC game and getting bounced from it.
Just get the division title boys- it’ll make things simpler.
The wild card series is three games this year.
Thanks – party on
Helping someone lead to their death? 60 games.
(uncharged, still a POS) BDSM? 2+ years.
Makes no sense at all, does it.
What if Skaggs gave Harvey pills a week before and said pay me back when you get your own? What if they had been swapping supply back and forth for a while. I’m not defending the Bauer situation, I don’t agree with that either, but I don’t blame Harvey one bit for giving his adult friend something he asked for. Clearly it is a tragic accident.
Bauer was suspended with pay during the 6 month investigation. The 2-year suspension is without pay.
He’s also pissed about other things.

Being the “what about” guy rarely garners much sympathy and more likely loses some.
It’s a tie between “what about” guy and ‘victimization’ guy who garners the most sympathy.
Sympathy or no, he has a right to be pissed about this one. This is a clear case of Bauer being punished substantially more severely than players with comparable or worse offenses because Bauer’s suspension benefits the Dodgers.
Agree.
The NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL all view this crap as nothing but a PR pain in the ass. Manage it through their crises management / public relation teams and hope it goes away. Or hope for a another incident to take place to distract from their own crap storm.
I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about Bauer . Just because a washed up Matt Harvey got off lightly from the commissioners office after making a deal with the Feds should have no bearing what that sick predatory fuck ( first time) likes to do to beat the shit out of and brutalize women. Go talk to all three of his accusers about their own experiences before you defend him. I’m sure even the bumbling MLB investigators did that,
He wants a reduced sentence ? Then give him the same exact total treatment that he gave his 3 accusers then we’ll talk.
Isn’t garnering illegal in three states?
