Drat! Archie Bradley is now on the ten day injured list effective Saturday. Matt Duffy is on the injured list effective Sunday. It’s probably the COVID IL. David Fletcher returned from the injured list Friday night and brought a couple of doubles with him. Mike Trout is built like a linebacker and he’s hitting balls to the moon. So says Hunter Pence. Oh, and there is also the defense. He doesn’t appear to be in decline yet. He still likes the weather. Shohei Ohtani got some pretty good loft on this one. Jimmy Herget got a five filthiest pitches shout out from the Pitching Ninja. Taylor Ward is also drawing some attention.
Five Mets pitchers combined for a no-hitter Friday night.
Jackie Robinson’s game used bat from the 1949 All Star Game sold at auction for $1.08 Million.
Trevor Bauer finally got suspended. We’ll see how that goes. Two years is a long time for a professional ball player.
Alex Cobb is back off the injured list. Ji-Man Choi went on the injured list with loose bodies in his elbow. That can’t be good. Meanwhile, CJ Cron leads the National League in home runs.
Here is an article about the decline of the first pitch fastball. Ben Joyce, pitching for Tennessee, threw a 105.5 MPH fastball.
Doh! This guy was probably in the doghouse over this play.
Goaaal!

Patrick is learning a ton right now.
Note to self… When you kill someone, do NOT hide the bodies in Ji-Man’s elbow!
You can, just wrap ’em tight.
Well I finally have a chance to watch a weekday day game and spend some time here at CtPG. I had to have a heart attack to make it happen though! The invention of the stent is truly miraculous. Glad to still be alive to watch this season. If it didn’t already feel like a special season, it sure does now!
Glad you’re alive!! It really was a heart attack finish to that game yesterday!!
Thanks. Yeah Mrs. Manatee was like “Maybe you shouldn’t be watching this.” Haha.
Whoa, that’s scary! Glad you are on the mend.
I hope you didn’t watch yesterday’s game, or was that the cause of the heart attack? 😀
No, he went to Semi Valley. That caused it.
WOAH!!! Glad you got to the hospital in time and on the road to recovery! pay attention when your body tells you something isn’t quite right.
True true. I had just finished playing a concert with my band, and my drummer was like “dude you’re freaking me out. I’m takin you to the hospital.”
Your drummer may have saved your life. Good drummer.Get some rest and heal up quickly. You still have a lot of future baseball games to attend with your wife and kids!
Hey, Rallymanatee!!! How you doing, bro?
Yo Red! I’m recovering well. Glad I get sleep in my own bed tonight. Can you believe how old we’re getting bro?
You’ll be fine. Stents have kept me alive for 12 years come November 3, 2022. Lose weight, change diet and walk your ass off. Positive outlook for you if you are willing to work on it. Vascular heart attacks are easy to deal with as the body adapts well. Glad you are back with us for sure, hope as you recoup you show up more.
Oh wow…I was wondering where you were the other day. Glad you’re okay and on the mend!
Long Live the Stent!
Good to have you back with us.
Thanks! Glad to spend a bit more time here. One more month of teaching and then I’ll really have the free time to geek out.
Stents…. like tootsie rolls for the arteries… but not as delicious. It is pretty incredible how they can pretty much treat heart repair as about as troublesome as changing a fuel line on an old car. Thank God you had a heart attack in 2022 instead of 1982.
Not sure if anyone caught this but when Iggy got taken out of the game, there was a clip of him slamming his glove on the bench repeatedly in anger for almost blowing the game. I haven’t seen that much fire from players being pissed at losing in a loooong time from this team. I still believe Iggy is the best closer in the game as it’s a long season and every pitcher has one of those off days. But it’s great to see the fire is back from this team. They truly believe they can win every single game and that’s something I didn’t feel like since 2014.
Yeah his fastball was down in velocity the last couple outings. Might be attributed to the cold April air. He was blowing on his hand a lot too yesterday. I’m not concerned.
Happy it wasn’t his fist against the wall.
Jimmy Herget – “The Human Glitch”
Watching him pitch makes me feel like I’m having a seizure.
No Rendon or Ohtani today. Hopefully Sandy keeps it going!
No Fletcher either
So how long do we think Ohtani is going to be out? At least we have Adell and Marsh to fill the void, will be good to get them some consistent ABs.
Ohtani himself says that it is merely precautionary. Joe Maddon is less optimistic, and he writes the lineup cards.
Apparently he’s able to pinch hit today, which I doubt he’ll do, but that is relatively good news.
Do we have to make roster cuts today?
I think so.
Elvis and Wantz were optioned
Done
Elvis has left the building!
Curse you and your non-existent pants!!! You beat me to it!
The pants do exist. However, wearing them is optional.
Always. Optional.
Elvis Wantz a peanut butter and banana sandwich.
I know they extended something… was it the 14 man staff?
Well, people are talking about Lorenzen, and rightfully so. So far our SP has been a surprise. This is good news since Ohtani has not been at his best (with the notable exception of the one game at Houston where he was spectacular). If Shohei can turn it up a notch and achieve more consistency on the bump and the other guys can more or less maintain what they are doing we should be pretty good there…
We are 16th in team ERA, so I would like to see us improve there. Demoting Suarez may help as he lowered us in that category. On a bright note we are 3rd overall in MLB with a team WHIP of 1.11. Only the Mets and Dodgers are better! Our pitchers are doing a really good job of keeping opposing batters off the bases. Loup has just been unreal here with an otherwordly WHIP of 0.38 ! He has given up only two hits in 10.2 IP !! He has also only walked two batters over that same stretch. This is absolutely huge for us as we need guys who can lock down the late middle innings to get to Iggy. I just hope our pen can keep this up. They are a big reason we are playing this well overall.
Yah. I think Suarez has a couple starts left. If he still sucks, but Barria looks OK and a couple AAA guys look good and stretched out I think Suarez will be in trouble if he still sucks.
Fun little video of some “One Homer Wonders” for the Angels.

The NavaPile is larger than I thought
Who was the silent home run at Oakland?
Suarez optioned, Kenny Rosenberg, of the 0.96 ERA recalled. Good moves. Suarez is young and certainly in our future, but some time in AAA is appropriate now. And Rosenberg is definitely worth a look.
Kenny Rosenthal will be happy
Possibly. I’m hoping we’re happier.
Kenny Rosenberg sounds like a kid who’s going to become Bar Mitzvah.
Huh. I Thought they’d wait a little on calling a guy up this early, but hey, rock on Kenny.
Lets keep it rolling.
Also – Suarez slump, Ohtani groin and health record of Lorenzen underscores the importance of continuing to build rotation depth with some urgency. Guys will get hurt and with a 6 man rotation we need more depth than most.
We got Junk.
Article about Trout on yahoo, was reading through the comments and my god people just don’t want to give Trout any actual respect.
Yep, they’re just butthurt that Trouty doesn’t play for their team.
The commenters in that Trout defense link above were also being stupid.
New week, same series, feels weird. Let’s get that series W.
I’m getting real excited about this team. Yesterday was a game we lose the last few years. But we have the pen depth to survive Iggy not having it that day.
If Lorenzen is for real, our staff looks absolutely stellar. If Suarez ends up being the weakest link Perry deserves all the praise in the word. And I still believe Jose will pitch significant innings this year
So much will change from now until Game 162, but right now all signs point to a fun season ahead.
Suarez is still only 24. Barria is only 25. So yeah, I think he still has time to develop into a good starting pitcher and I think Barria’s role is best in the bullpen.
Yes, the ol wrap around series never seems to happen anymore.
