Angels Sweep Cleveland

The Angels end their series with Cleveland with a win, securing the sweep. It was another excellent game of good pitching and clutch hitting.

Reid Detmers got the start. He went 5 innings giving up 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1.

Detmers had a good start

On a day without Ohtani, (who finally had a day off), it was up to others to provide the offense. Luckily, there was plenty of hot hitters who started today. Ward had an RBI single, as did Marsh.

Highlighted Recap

Runs came first in the 3rd, as Cleveland goofed multiple times. Ward hit a single to get one in.

First blood!

Marsh drove in another.

2-0!

Trout hit into a double play, but hey, 3-0 Angels!

No RBI

Detmers did end up giving up. Solo shot in the 5th, but that was one of only 2 hits he gave up all day.

That run was gotten back in the 7th, as a bobble allowed Velazquez to score. 4-1 Angels.

Zoomin

Raisel Iglasies shut the door and secured the win and the sweep.

Even Lorenzen? Do you finally want your “Lorenzen Fan Club” stater kit?

Comes with a tote bag, his first book “My Right Bicep” from the guy who wrote “My Left Foot” and 4 feet of thick steel workout chain.

Totally off topic, but I just saw the Royal’s “City Connect” uniforms for this year. It’s the first one of these “wacky” uniforms I’ve ever really liked. It makes me wish the Angels would change their crap unis. But everything else about the team’s going great right now, so fair trade….

Angels are 1 of 7 teams in this years “City Connect” uniform debacle. Haven’t seen ours yet, scheduled for June 11. Rumor is they will be Red Shersey with the word trAdition in block letters, that’s it, cheap Arte.

Hah. I didn’t know we were in it this year. I was actually thinking I hope we never do it because the whole Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim horse will just be dug up and beaten again.

But who knows, maybe it will be cool?

And he is usually spot on. He bashed me a few times way back when during a time I was over panicking. Once you’ve taken those hits you can see what he’s doing and you can end up enjoying it. Take your licks and move on. Wet blankets will be called out as needed especially on a happy night like tonight. Sure losses are coming but let people speculate on the possibility of a 200-win season if they want. Have fun!

Shit – I was sure we were headed for a 60 win season and these guys are setting me up for a extra glorious and spectacular buttercup! Enjoy the highs while we can!

Down on the farm update:

Jhonathan Diaz and his Mr. T Starter kit pitched 8 shutdown innings with 7 K’s at AAA tonight to lower his ERA to 1.96
Chase Silseth (11th round 2021 all pitchers draft)Continued his hot start with no earned runs in 6 innings but 8 K’s lower his ERA to 1.35 at AA tonight
lastly one of the young arms in the Dylan Bundy trade Kyle Bradish will be making his MLB debut tomorrow for Baltimore. Maybe its a good thing we missed him this last homestead since our castoffs typically come back to seek revenge against us.

First, I am very happy we got the sweep. Getting a four game sweep over anyone is something would not likely have done in the last three years or so… That said, I think it is wise to temper our enthusiasm just a little bit…

The reason? This Cleveland team came into this series struggling on offense. Their bats were ice cold. Now granted, we kept them that way. We definitely pitched well this series. But in order to get a real indication of how good our pitching is we’ll need to see them against better competition. We need to see how our pitchers do against the Dodgers or Yankees bats when they are hot. Or the Blue Jays. Realistically, the Indiguards don’t have much pop in their lineup. If you pitch around Ramirez there are not alot of long ball threats. Reyes was ice cold this series, so Ramirez was the only really dangerous guy and he did hit two HR’s on Wednesday night.

SO, while I am happy that we are playing well, I do want to see our pitchers going up against a really good lineup who is not injured or in the midst of a cold streak.

I think I did that. I said we did pitch well this series. We got one shutout and two wins giving up only 1 run. You can’t do much better than that. But like Charles I want to see our guys sustain this performance over time. Let’s get to mid-May still pitching and playing this way and then it will be okay to get really excited. That is what I am saying. But I will agree that compared to recent years this team does look and feel different. I will say that.

Here, I’ll temper your tempering of enthusiasm. There will always be something “we need to see”. There will always be someone who is cold, someone who is hurt, someone who has a bad platoon split. Sometimes the Angels will be a hot team heading into a a series. Sometimes the team we are heading towards will be hot. Sometimes it will be cloudy. Sometimes the sun will shine. Monica Bellucci will always be hot. Arte will always be the owner. Unless our team becomes as overpowered as an actress in a Marvel movie there will always be something to point to and temper enthusiasm with. We all know that already without your help after every win.

JackFrost

You and others may “know” that without my help, but the comments that most people are making don’t indicate that they have that understanding.

So, you’re going to attack me because I recommend showing a little restraint? I mean, we have people here proclaiming this team will win 99 or 100 games, lol.

Yes, we do look good. I am actually excited about the way we looked this series. I am certainly more optimistic than I was by late April of the last two seasons. That said, how will most people feel if we lose 3 out of 4 to the White Sox? Maybe that will have a naturally tempering effect and you won’t need me or anybody else to preach temperance. Those who play the sport understand this, that is why they resist the temptation to get too high after a couple of wins. They get that highs are inevitably followed by lows.

And on another note that was not a particularly funny comment. You seem to view yourself as some kind of comedian. Sorry to disappoint you but you are not actually that funny.

There are many comedy clubs that have open mic nights or amateur nights if you really feel the need to try your chops out on an anonymous public.

Breath man. I don’t think any of the people saying “100 wins” is predicting. I don’t think they’re serious. It’s all going to be OK. CtPG is safe from optimism poisoning. No one’s attacking you, you’re just getting ribbed for being a sad sack. You had to have seen it coming when you typed out a comment trying to correct everyone’s joy gimbles after a 4 game sweep. we’re all gonna be OK.

I’m totally funny. I just don’t take you nearly as seriously as you take you… but then no one really ever has, have they Jack.

Here, I’ll use my serious man talk for you. It is, of course, your right to take it upon yourself to correct the lesser minds who you find too optimistic after a big win and a great start by our team. But most people who are intelligent and do so also understand that people will probably poke fun at their gloomy disposition. Getting bitterly defensive about that is what autistic people and dumbshits do. So, if you want to constantly dose us all with Jack’s Reality Check TM you can,. Apparently that is what you want to do since you have done it after pretty much every win. But if you’re going to take it personally when people goose you over it you should probably just STFU.

Unless you’re autistic. Or a dumbshit. Then I guess you can’t help yourself so have at it.

JackFrost
Super Member

Who the hell are you to tell me to STFU? You are the self-righteous “dumbshit” who has taken it upon himself to mock and send up other posters here for several years running.. You are just not used to people standing up to you.

You constantly insult and attack other posters without having been provoked. You like to pick fights. That’s what you do. You are not in the position to judge the behavior of ANYONE on this site because you have proven time and again what a pathetic POS you are.

So, I’ll use a phrase you have used before : go crawl back into the hole you came from. You can intoxicate yourself staring into the mirrors you surely have all around so you can gaze upon your own face for hours on end.

Jackass.

To the Gitch, you obviously have never read Marcus Aurelius, or any of the stoic philosophers, because you have no shame in exhibiting your lack of depth in thought and in treating others with such lack of respect and decent consideration.

Go back into the dark, dank, dirty, and damp cave where you belong.

It is awesome to get a four game sweep, but we don’t want to settle for that. We want to see great play against the best. A sweep of Chicago would be great.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen them outplay the other team and sweep a 4 game series like that. They’re playing like a 90-win team so far.

6-4 over the first 10.
7-3 over the next 10.

1/8 of the season done, they’re leading the pack.

I think both things are important. For several years running now we have found ourselves in an early hole in the standings, looking up at Houston and Oakland and sometimes Seattle after just a few weeks. It is nice not to be in that position. It is also important for psychological reasons.

Had we started poorly and say fallen behind by 4 or 5 games the returning guys could start thinking “Here we go again…” etc. Getting comfortably above .500 and especially leading the division should not be minimized. That said, I would agree with you if you suggested we should still wait a few more weeks before feeling especially excited.
