CBA negotiations
As of midnight best coast time, there was still no deal done between the owners and players. It seems to be close, however.
What was the latest proposal anyway? In summary, 12 team playoffs, new rule changes with banned shifts, pitch clock, and larger safer bases, CBT threshold will increase, new CBT threshold tax, and an international draft.
It is that last addition that is causing strife now. This has been an issue since it was first suggested back in 2002.
People do seem optimistic that there will be a deal done, and the players and owners were still meeting as I wrote this. Please be the last no baseball update…

Unlike in times previous, the fans blame the owners for the lockout. Smarter fans or dumber Manfred?

You aren’t going to suddenly gain a position that allows you to demand a 270M CBT with no international draft, no penalties, etc. The owners have your balls because they gave them to you in the first place. I know it must seem like we should all be up in arms because an international draft will mean that owners only waste 5M on international prospects that will likely flame out instead of 10M but we just don’t care. Cut the deal guys. I wanted a high salary floor and all revenue sharing money going to players. You want to make sure old farts can be overpaid to suck while also making sure young players get paid a lot more. It’s not gonna happen, you got some more money out of the owners, let’s get on with it now.

The Dodgers basically bought all the Cuban talent to really enhance their rebuild. Most of the players didn’t work out well but many were traded.
They’ve also nailed a few international signings: Fernando, Beltre, Puig,
….Roberto Clemente, Pedro Martinez, Kenley Jansen, Mondesi, Nomo, Ryu, Park…..

I believe that along with larger, the bases would be thinner–lower to the ground, which is where the safeness is supposed to kick in.
Thinner base means less grip area for the fingers as a player is sliding past the base.
With replay and the way the fielders keep the tag on nowadays this is a really good point.
