To be honest, I think that Bonds and Clemens pre-PED body of work probably qualifies them, and I’m meh on whether they should be in — I don’t care one way or the other. And steroids were a gray area when they started.
I refuse to ever think that Rose deserves to be in, because that was the ONLY UNBREAKABLE RULE when he played — “Ye shall not bet upon baseball, lest ye be banished for all eternity.” It was figuratively carved in stone above every clubhouse door. Rose knew the rule. He chose to ignore it. He got caught. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
It’s this kind of binary thinking that’s keeping the Hall of Fame from being the Hall for Everyone. I say let Rose in. Also let Pele in. F*** it, let me in.

Folks are all amped up about Ortiz but Pusge and Bagwell got in. The HOF lost moral credibility years ago.
I don’t really care that Ortiz got in, I just think it’s a pretty shitty to let in one “rumored steroid user” and not the other ones.
Bonds and Clemens were always more adversarial with the media than I remember Ortiz being, maybe that played into it with voters. They *like* him.
Exactly. If Papi is in then it’s time to just come up with a way to tell the story of the steroid era…. like the deadball era but scuzzier. Clemens and Bonds not being in but that fat twat making it is gross. Free Palmiero too. Man Ram should probably also make it. Just create a lump of players that are in, but make it clear that the era was a particular way. Everyone will understand the idea that most or all of these guys were either juiced or benefitted from teammates juicing to help them succeed.
Here’s some positivity. Jered Weaver (pictured above) was a great pick that the Angels got on an over slot deal as I recall. Really miss that iconic red-ass stare and a desire to win that was apparent to anyone who watched. Hope this doesn’t stoke Eddie Bane for GM threads 🙂

Bottomline is that Eppler’s first 2016 Draft was a disaster for us, except for Brandon Marsh who BTW was taken one pick after Bryan Reynolds (20 hrs, 90 rbi’s). A lot of praise going to Perry for his recent international signings, however he’s taking the same approach that he took in the 2021 MLB Draft (quantity over quality, but I understand the tactic because of the farm system being empty and bankrupt) and he’ll have to hope he finds many diamonds in the rough.

It appears that you always take the easy way out, as it is easier to criticize and find fault than to find solutions. It is easier to be negative than to be positive. I believe that all the issues that have held the team back are the fact that Arte does not fill the front office with experienced personnel that can get the complete job done. Maybe that will change under first time GM PTP. Until then try finding what has gone right for a change, after all are we not all Angel fans?
