NLDS Game 5 Gamethread

As we watch the NL West rivals duke it out in the only game 5 of the LDS, we can argue here over who is the real villain of baseball. Or something…

Doug Eddings called his usual sub-professional game behind the plate. Dude’s just plain bad.

But Gabriel Morales – rated pretty well – made one of the worst calls in baseball history. It will haunt him forever, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he just isn’t assigned games in San Francisco anymore. That swing was checked; there are a LOT of checked swings that are 50-50 and I can’t blame the 1st or 3rd base ump for the call either way. Flores’s swing was more like 5-95. Just hellacious.

Scherzer would’ve probably shut ’em down anyway, but we will never know now.

Terrible call. I smile at the story of bellinger finally getting good in the postseason, but there’s the what-if flores continued or ended the inning. All baseball fans, except maybe dodger fans, would like to see that at bat with Flores play out.

Yea, and talk about “unwritten rules” in baseball: you can’t have a check swing – even one that was “close” (this one was not): end the season for a team.

If you’re 1st base ump, 2 outs, 2 strikes, you have to remind yourself, “If he checks his swing and they appeal to me, it better be clearly a swing or I’m saying ‘no swing.'”

Percisely, I think any normal person would think, “There’s a lot riding on this call, better make my best decision”. And I haven’t rewatched it, but it seemed instant to Cody bellinger being like, “yo I was in CF so idk lol, but if it’s a strike it’s a strike right? Lol =)”

I just watched the Flores check-swing 10-15 more times and I must apologize to Gabriel Morales. It wasn’t a 5-95 call. More like a 30-70…so he still fucking BLEW THE CALL and ended the season for the Giants. Base hit with 2 outs and you probably have a guy on 3rd, but WTF…

Base hit, a throwing error to 3rd and it’s a tie game.

I have no idea who I’d prefer in tomorrow night’s game. I guess I’ll find out in the 1st inning.

It is really sad that a potential trip to the NLCS is decided on such an easy call to make. Or not make in this instance.

I’m a fan of the braves from way back. When the only baseball I could see on TV was the braves on tbs. They have my support.

I am hoping the Dodgers will finally tire out after being in the postseason for so many years. Eventually something has to take them down.

Way to dissolve umpires! Kind of a win!
Step 1: Joe west retires
Step 2: fail to check a swing
Step 3: ???????
Profit

Besides did Eddings really have to point? Or could he have just called it a check himself? There’s so many hidden rules to umpire legacy baseball that it’s become a gimmick. As fans we are expected to know check swings can’t be replay reviewed, the homeplate umpire has to check with some other umpire(but only if the catcher insists!) These are new fan unfriendly and inherently what destroyed this game for the everyday fan and for the newcomer

I have great satisfaction knowing Pujols had nothing to do with that game.

Besides the Doyers are cheating…..don’t know how or what they are doing……but I’m certain of it. Hope is they will get caught someday.

I can tell you that 3 of the 4 teams right now in the postseason are cheaters. They are the Dodgers, Astros and Red Sox.

They’re doing their own research. It’s a personal decision.

Another shitty ump decides the outcome of a game! What a load of crap!! They should be able to review a call like that. What bullshit!

The umpiring was bad 20 years ago. It has gotten much worse since then. These umpires have no business calling a game anymore.

Probably cuz it’s the same umps from 20 years ago and they’re blind as hell.

I don’t think it was Eddings. He was behind home. It was the 1st base umpire.

I was saying that we still talk about Eddings for the past 16 years, and the same will happen with this ump.
