Angels @ Orioles 08/26/2021 Gamethread

It’s a morning game to end the series in Baltimore. Jaime Barria gets the honors. Who will win this series? Can Ohtani stop striking out? Will the bullpen stop blowing it? All I know is that it is too early for a game. Discuss…

These Orioles were a very formidable opponent. Tip cap turn page.

Matt V seems very cheerful that we are being punked so hard. I understand we shouldn’t blame the messenger but I am just sick of him.

Elvis was part of the Junk from the Yankees…right?

Me thinks the wrong guy was named “junk” in that trade.

I think we should admit that we should be in the discussion for worst team in baseball.

Sure, but the discussion won’t net us the draft position that goes with being the worst

And that makes it even worse since it gives us even less of a chance of getting better.

for the history books, because, no doubt students will peruse game threads, back to back errors and no additional comment from me.

This team is done. Long road trip, Covid, injuries. They needed a rain out today

Wantz is the only pitcher, who pitched today, with an ERA under 5 and a half.

still wondering about Fletch being out as we see a weak Wong at-bat.

A weak Wong?

Only an Ohtani walk. I’m out. Tomorrow is another day.

Why bother swinging?

on the other hand, Baltimore is terrible and we’re a blitz away from being back in the game.

I wonder what possessed Joe to bring Petricka back. Sometimes I think “he did it on purpose to show Perry that there’s nothing to work with” but actually I doubt it. I think he was giving Petricka a second chance. And now I wonder if he’ll give him a third.

He should be gone after today as should many others calling themselves pitchers

this game joins the lowlights list of 2021. Getting blasted by the worst team in baseball, getting shut down by an 0-8, high 7s ERA guy, and feeling hopeless about it.

not gonna agree there. Homered (as you say), walked, hit a fly ball.

We’re good that way. Making rookies and high ERA guys look like Cy Young.

This team is not going to win more than 5 games the rest of the way. The sad part about it is that no one in the front office or management seem to care.

I’m guessing they’ll get to 75 wins or so.

That is being very generous. That would mean 12 more wins with mostly tough teams to play. Sad part is that we get some good young pitching and then they get injured. Same old story that never goes away.

D- for Perry. Bad trades, not enough trades, no improvement in health management, worse “run prevention” no analytics. We will be worse than last 4 years

This year doesn’t matter. Neither does next year. The only thing 2021 and 2022 are good for is giving MLB experience for the Angels’ young pitching to develop. This year Detmers/Sandoval/Suarez are making good steps to become weapons in 2023. Next year, all of those pitchers we just drafted will be getting MLB experience and learning. Everything needs to be focused on 2023. The Angels are going to be a beast in two years.
