This game started out where yesterday left off. The Angels were three up/three down in the first inning. It’s becoming a trAdition. For the Guardians, Rosario hit a solid single on a changeup. Then Upton gunned down Rosario trying to score from first on a double (via Fletcher cutoff). They got guys on first and second and then did a double steal. I wish Detmers would pay a little better attention to those guys on second base. With the bases loaded, he got soft contact to Fletcher who tossed to First to keep it 0-0.
In the second inning the Angels once again went three up/three down but so did Cleveland.
Jack Mayfield stepped up with a two out double to bring up Shohei Ohtani who then struck out to end the Angels half of the third. Myles Straw got a bloop single to start the Cleveland half of the third. Rosario sent a single through the right side and Straw to third. Ramirez hit a three run homerun to make it 3-0. So much for the pitcher’s duel. Mercado doubles to add insult to injury. Alright Cleveland stole the third base in three innings. I think that’s a bad trend. Detmers got the third out to make it 3-0 Cleveland heading into the fourth inning.
Unfortunately, the Angels once again went three up/three down. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Joe Maddon hooked Reid Detmers in favor of Andrew Wantz who got a routine fly ball out for the third out. Still 3-0.
The Angels went three up/ three down in the top of the fifth to keep the trAdition alive. So did the Cleveland team. *trying to stay awake*
The Angels went three up/ three down in the top of the sixth to keep the trAdition alive. The mighty Shohei struck out. In the bottom of the sixth, Joe Maddon replaced Wantz with Mike Mayers who got a double play ball to end the sixth.
The Angels apparently did nothing in the seventh while I was zoning out. In the Cleveland half of the seventh, Rosario hit a homer to make it 4-0 Guardians. Cishek came in and walked Jose Ramirez before Franmuil Reyes and Oscar Mercado hit safely. This is beyond ridiculous. Why did I volunteer to write this? Sam Selman came in to replace Cishek and gave up an RBI hit. (5-0 Cleveland)
Jose Iglesias walked to chase McKenzie. Marsh doubled to place runners at second and third. Adell hit into a fielder’s choice to score Iglesias. (5-1 Cleveland). Mayfield hit into an inning ending double play.
Ernie Clement lined out to Marsh. Straw singled. Amed Rosario lined out and then Rosario lined out to end the inning.
Emmanuel Clase came in to close out the game. The first two Angels made out to leave Justin Upton as potentially the last batter. Upton struck out to end the game. Sorry! That’s all Folks. At least we got a run.
So Marte in now on IR?
TrrrrAAAAAAAAAdittttttion! He only had to be in the same building as Arte’s narcissism for a few hours and it snapped all his bones and tendons! I lay this squarely at Arte’s feet!
you say this jokingly, but there is actually alot of truth in it….
I feel a little older now having watched Jo Adell say his favorite player when he was a kid was Joey Votto
Fletch said his were Eckstein and Pedroia
At the Salty Lakes today…Cooper Criswell 5 innings 1 ER 5 hits 1 walk 5 SO 5/1 ground outs, hit a batter, had an error…… all vital signs are good, back intact, no scheduled TJS.
Amazing!
off game for Stephanic, only 2 hits.
Oregon-South Dakota Little League game called off. Doesn’t bode well for Angels vs Ians
It looks like there will be several hours of 15% chance of precip. starting game time. I think they might try to sneak this one in unless the field is a great big mud pie.
We wouldn’t want anyone to get hurt………..trAdition.
Our health reports are getting pretty ridiculous. MNT injury was actually a tear?! Is our training staff working pro bono??
In medical terminology a “strain” can actually be a “tear,” so there is not necessarily a contradiction here. The original description of strain was not necessarily wrong.
That said, I am certainly not defending our training/medical staff.
It was initially reported as a grade II strain, which does imply significant tearing, but not a complete tear of either of the major muscles in the calf.
If he weren’t a professional athlete, he would be considered healed by now (just my opinion), but given that it is not only a MLB player, but TROUT that was are discussing, I bet the doctors are being extra cautious to make sure he is completely healed before letting him play. This is in line with Trout’s frustration about getting out there, and reports of him just trying to get the scar tissue to break-up. Honestly, this seems like good news – not that Trout remains on the IL, but that they aren’t rushing him back (as so many others have been) where he can reinjure or have a lingering issue (like Rendon, Cozart, Pujols).
2022 is just fine for MNT. We need a higher draft pick.

Still no testimony yet on who the 5 MLB players are. When is this case going to get salacious and interesting?
Should start sometime in October and maybe get really interesting in December, depending upon the attorneys and any delays.
Well, you’d think the five would come clean before their names are disclosed in the trial. Controlling the message and begging forgiveness is always better than reacting.
I’m guessing some of the 5 would be fellow pitchers, maybe the ones who eulogized Tyler at the service. They were the inner circle. Friends introduce friends to illicit drugs. Their testimony that the feds obtained will nail this douche bag Kay.
Hopefully they did rehab that first off-season when it became evident that you know what was going to hit the fan.
Ugly ugly. Sure am getting tested in my fandom with this team/organization
Today ACL, Braden Olthoff, 9th round, 2 innings, 2 hits, 1 ER, 1 walk, 2 SO
Janson Junk with his best game for Rocket City. Still work to do. 6 IP, 3 runs, 9 hits, 8 ks, 1 bb. Got the win.
1-800-GOT-JUNK
While we’re at it….
Tri-City tonight, Glenn Albanese, 15th round, 3 innings, 0 ER, 0 Walks, 2 SO46/33 pitch count, 6/1 ground outs, hasn’t given up a run in 6.2 innings, 3 appearances.
But wait there’s more:
2021 19th round pick Nathan Burns pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief in the 66ers 3-0 loss tonight against the Lake Elsinore Storm. This was the former Oregon State Beaver’s 4th dive into professional baseball for the IE where he has 12 strikeouts in 6 innings and has given up an anemic 0.33 WHIP
ACL
Was thinking another injury?
Not yet…. New Injury du jour is, the back, spinal.
Man, that game sucked. Is there any corn in that turd? Selman and Wantz are still battlin and growing into men with chest hair? Detmers takes an ass kicking like a champ?
I see it as just part of the Detmers growing pains. He’s got the rest of this season just to add some MLB innings. OJT.
Yah. It’s fine as long as his mind doesn’t get all messed up.
Well it looks like The Indians are a better team, also good pitching wins baseball games.
But the Guardians are better
Who are the Guardians?
A politically correct tribe in Cleveland that are super hero saviors from Marvel.
Why would Cleveland need Guardians? Nobody is trying to invade Cleveland, they may try to leave, so maybe they are guarding the city from people leaving.
No, just traffic monitors.
Gods that watch over you while stuck in traffic on bridges
Jeff or Beau?
It all depends, ¿Quien Es Mas Macho?

Mantalban….. Mantalban es mas macho.
Yes but is he the greatest?

Lloyd… That would be Lloyd Bridges
Looks like Steve there picked the wrong week to quit getting wet.
My bad. I always thought that the Yack Lord was mas macho.
Very muscular! Lloyd is probably a baseball fan who doesn’t accept anything less than a Championship run as a successful season.
Progress is for pussies! Just win baby!

The Cleveland roller derby team
Should have been the steamers
It’s like an (easy) SAT question:
Two games below .500, .500, two games above .500, .500, two games below .500, _______ . What comes next?
Chicken …? No, egg …?

On the schadenfreude side, I see that Cishek, the master of IRS, got bit by that himself.
A small consolation
Back to watching Little League highlights.
That game was UG-LY!!
Another game closer to a better draft position. I’m ok with that.
Let’s the kids play and get a better draft pick. Win-win. I no longer get bothered by a loss but still get upset when I see Maddon doing Maddon things. Dude is not the sharpest tool in the shed but does bring the team together.
No manager is error-proof. I’ve just come to accept that Maddon is no better / no worse than any other manager out there. Maddon as manager is the same as with Arte and his merry band of imbeciles: at this point the knucklehead we know is better than the knucklehead we don’t know.
The Knucklehead we know seems to work well with the psyches of the young veteran ball players. Just hide the bullpen keys and there would probably be less pain.
If he were to lose an arm in a tragic bong fire he wouldn’t be able to signal to the pen anymore…..
Football is on tonight. Preseason games sure. At least that should be a bit more exciting compared to what I have seen the last 2 days.
This is a baseball site, Jimmy
Looking for the positive spin on my day
My advice is to drink heavily.

You should listen to him. He’s pre-med.
