LA Angels Thursday News Crash: Pride Night

Tonight is Pride Night at the Big A.  You have to buy a special ticket package to get the hat.

Links About Ex-Angels

The Red Sox signed Alex Claudio.  They also moved Garrett Richards to the bullpen

In the latest action on the Catcher Go Round, the Braves have activated Travis D’Arnaud and designated Kevan Smith for assignment

Links From Around Baseball

MLB is really hyping the Field of Dreams Game that is set to be played later today.  Carlos Rodon won’t be in the game because he just went on the ten day injured list with left shoulder fatigue

If Noah Syndergaard makes it back this season it will be as a reliever.  His setback left him insufficient time to get stretched out as a starter.

Check out this slide by Trea Turner.

JOB POSTING

The Braves are hiring for Major League Operations Analyst positions.

Heaney’s given up 8 HR in his last 13 innings pitched. Is that bad?

the ball really flies in that field. Or out of it. What a corny gimmick. I can see the Skanks coming back to win this and Heaney getting a W.

you must have accidentally clicked on something so you’re getting notifications. I’ve had that happen with both Jack and Grandpa Baseball. You can unclick but now I forget how I did that. Oh wait! You see how there are these funny lines, a couple of arcs and a dot underneath ‘trusted member’ or ‘super member’ or whatever? If you click that for anyone you’ll follow them and get notified in your emails. Click it again and it will unfollow. I bet you accidentally hit that.

Hover over that, see if it says “Unfollow this user” or “Follow this user”.

close to it. It ties the most he’s given up in a single game but at least this time he’s pitched more than 3 innings.

now that’s an interesting idea. I’d like to see the Mariners play in Portland. We’ve got a team called the Portland Pickles that play in a field that’s part of a public park. They should do that. Ideally I’d like to see the Angels as part of that game.

Jhonathan Diaz got absolutely lit up for 8 ERs at AA after being really good for the last 2 months or so. So let’s hope it’s just a blip.

You can talk about Pride night without making it political. We always try to be fair and if something posted could be inflammatory and political, we do our best to notice that and remove if needed.

Arte gets bashed for leaning a certain way all the time here. It’s been that way since the beginning and I don’t care. I asked a non inflammatory question about obama and it got removed. Didn’t make sense to me. Politicians can go screw themselves.

We’re working on reducing arguments in general. I appreciate the way you phrased your question but the potential for the discussion to devolve was just way too high.

In general, we’re going to be deleting more comments for a while. Across the spectrum. Not trying to pick sides, definitely not personal.

The rule is only discuss politics when it directly relates to baseball/the Angels. Mia’s comment pushed that boundary a bit, any subthread that branched off was just trouble waiting to happen. Even if said subthread was started with an honest question.

That one was a classic : “I’m gonna wish you away to the cornfields.”

Interestingly, the Yankees and White Sox have must have already been “wished away” because they are playing in the mythic cornfields of Iowa in the “Field of Dreams” game which starts in a few minutes.

The English football hooligans are right up there with Dodger fans for the worst in the world. The most unruly, the most violent and the most animal-like. On the flip side though, a good portion of English football fans (certainly the larger majority, as the hooligans are comparatively small group) are the most passionate and dedicated sports fans in the world. Perhaps some argument would come from South America though.

The good news for me is that my personal in person scoreless innings streak came to an end thanks to Mr. Ohtani. I went 27 straight without seeing a single run. Overall, last night was a win.

I don’t think it is really sponsored by the Angels. It’s just a community event that the Angels allow for something in return. Respect? Tax Breaks? OC requires it?

It’s an organization night out at the ballpark with supporters invited. They just signed up for something that the Halos could not refuse to okay. The Pride people will be allowed to wear the caps, and they will have their inning.

It is a chance for exposure that this group would never have had if they did it on their own. Angels Stadium is just the venue. Just having something like this in the OC is something. Hi Mouse. I support this. Why shouldn’t I?

Pretty much every Major League Team has their own pride night. For all we know it maybe mandated by the league. When my daughter and I saw Ohtani’s start in Arizona it was also pride night at chase field. This should be an annual event for all 30 teams

Yep. I’m thinking this.

But how do get support and recognition without awareness? This is an opportunity to get people informed and to feel comfortable with the world around them.

When given a chance for improvement, take it.

Not mandated. Angels and Yankees were the last ones to do it. Hiring Billy Bean as Ambassador for Inclusion for MLB certainly helped drive some of this.

The Angels definitely are sponsoring this. Outside organizations worked with them and convinced them to start doing these. I know some of the people that were involved in that process. I don’t think they get anything in return other than ticket sales? I think it’s great it’s happening but as Mia said, it rings pretty hollow given the owner of the team.

Thanks Chick.

I was thinking, correct me if I’m wrong again, that this was like the ethnic nights and college nights they held at theBIG A a few seasons ago. Where the organizations were just invited to fill an evening on the schedule.

Yeah, Arte is the benefiting from the lack of cares here, and I too agree with Mia here too, but, you have to take what they give you sometimes. This free advertising from, it has to be killing him inside, Arturo Moreno is something that normally would not be available. Arte did take a long time to concede to this. Take advantage while you can to educate the masses of important issues.

Like many corporations, Arte worships money above all else, so i can see how it wasn’t too hard of a sell to have him host these types of events despite his own regressive inclinations.
