Walsh to IL, Thaiss up

The Angels have put Walsh on the 10 day IL and called up Thaiss. This is yet another instance of Maddon downplaying an injury. It is trAdition at this point. With Trout and Rendon still out as well, this is a sign to sell.

Gotta admit one thing about Thaiss and Ward, they haven’t stalled out. Man, they both make AAA pitching look like it’s not really challenging them at all now. Both are starting to try and catch again now too? I have no clue how well that will work out but damn that’s at least an idea.

Both those guys are going to go to the A’s or Rays and murder us after we release them to clear roster space, but it’ll be OK cause we can all shake our fists at them and yell “You’re actually not any good because you were drafted by stupids and came from a farm system with no prospects!” as they round the bases.

So did Crash Davis ( Kevin Costner in Bull Durham ) and Jose Rojas.

“He hasn’t come down here,” a player said of Dipoto. “He sits up in his suite, playing fantasy baseball and rips apart our team without telling us anything.”

You know, it is strange.

Why would the Mariners trade arguably the best closer in MLB in 2021 when they are still very much in the race?

And whether it was luck or not they were playing well!

It doesn’t make a lot of sense, especially when you consider that Dipoto traded Graveman to a division rival! Why would he do anything to help the Astros, especially when said player has many chances to come back and beat them and keep them from the playoffs?

I bet the Mariners fans are pissed.
And what about the players, like we see in the quote above?

This kind of selling is why I HATE the MSM coerced, psychological trap/ploy of the artificial duality imperative of labeling oneself “buyer” or “seller.”

This is going to kill morale on the Seattle team. On the one hand I am happy because I hate them, but I also don’t like that the rich get richer (Astros) and the MSM bullshit narrative that pushes down aspiring teams is allowed to continue. It’s got to be the “haves” and “have nots” and you are either one or the other (were are made to believe).

BTW, did you see that the Yankees are getting Gallo? Just like I said the NYY would refuse to play the “seller” game despite their underachieving. They understand the psychological game and will never label themselves a loser.

Good deal for them, bad for morale.

Toro is a sab-favorite.

Yeah, Toro seemed like a real masher, in a saber-friendly sort of way. Not completely sure where he fits in in Mariners lineup, although they will probably let go of Seager soon and 3b will be open for them, and they do have a weird musical chair situation at 1b where one more candidate wouldn’t hurt. In the same manner, Graveman is probably going to be a one year wonder in a year when Mariners don’t have too far to go, even if they sneak into the playoffs (itself not too probable), and they don’t control him next year anyways (I think). Not a bad retool for 2022 move, I think, and something that I wish we do more often, with the players whose contracts run out at the end of the current year (not just this year) when we have only a slim shot a playoffs.

Maybe because Dipoto feels he’s having a fluke year just as Hansel Robles did for us in 2019. Meanwhile Kenley Jansen, Aroldis Chapman, Craig Kimbrel, and Liam Kendricks are still making bank and nobody’s gone pay Kendall Graveman the same money as those guys. Neither would I BTW. This is still a team that’s a work in process.

Graveman’s spin has declined a bunch since the crackdown, FWIW

Are you old enough to remember Stickum which former Raider’s player Lester Hayes used to lead the NFL in interceptions in 1980?
Yes I’m old already.

And to trade him to a team in you’re chasing in your own division. I understand why those players are pissed.

Exactly !

If you were set on trading him at least don’t give him to a division rival who can use him to beat you!

They still have Paul Sewald.
I still believe in the best GM Arte ever had, and then ran off because he chose to believe in Soth and King Albert. 😫 💩 The D-Rays traded Blake Snell and the Indians traded Francisco Lindor BTW. Karma sucks doesn’t it.

OK, so….. let’s make it easy

Andrew Heaney and Raisel Iglesias to the Phillies for Damon Jones (LHP), Rodolpho Duran (C), Christopher Sanchez (LHP).

Jose Iglesias and Tony Watson to the Reds for Luis Mey (RHP) and Mark Kolosvary (C) and some other pitcher who is young and not in their top 30 that PTPs friend from the Royals likes.

Alex Cobb to the Rays for Taj Bradley (RHP) and some lower than top 30 prospect or two.

or Cobb to the Doyers for Landon Knack (RHP) and some scrub.

Let’s add some more pitching and catching to the system, take a look at some of the “kids” from our farm etc for a couple months.

I like these trades. I really hope this happens. It is possible this all works out better for us and these young guys take us to the playoffs. Our current roster is clearly 500, so we need to stop hoping they will magically get us there.
