Angels-Twins Saturday night game postponed

Because of a positive COVID-19 test in the Minnesota Twins organization, Saturday’s game has been postponed. The state of Sunday’s game is still unknown.

Huh. Alrighty then.

“Family issues” has been used plenty of times before to allow a graceful exit when something has happened causing unexpected departure, hopefully it truly is just that.

Hmmmm, I wonder if some news is going to break in relation to the Tyler Skaggs death, investigation, and court proceedings. I sure hope Tim Mead had no knowledge of anything in regards to that mess.

I guess Mead’s last day at the HOF isn’t going to be until sometime in May so any adverse news in the Eric Kay/Tyler Skaggs case must not be too imminent.

I think the tell tale sign is what happens to Tim after his May departure. If he takes another high profile job with Arte or someone else in the near future back in the southland this is much ado about nothing. But, since I don’t sense he is ready for retirement, an indefinite hiatus would certainly be telling.

Angels will credit your account for tickets purchased off angels.com. For postponed games. Not even waiting for make you date or cancellation.

If you buy third party you could get screwed. Angels will refund original ticket purchaser and it’s up to you to get money back. Stubhub/geekseat were still selling tickets to today’s game but I’m sure credit you back.
You could have even received tickets for Saturday or today’s game(s) via Craigslist, another app and just be out of luck if seller doesn’t get back you.
Just FYI.

They should just have them forfeit the games. It sucks for them but rescheduling will be unbelievably difficult.

If you can’t field a team, then why isn’t the game forfeited? At some point the league will run out of available dates to reschedule – or they will need to push the regular season deeper into the fall. Is this about owners “needing” $$ from ticket sales?

Tend to agree. Why should the Angels be penalized as a team by being forced to play extra games in an already crowded summer calendar? This f’s up our bullpen and our pitching in general..,

Plus, we miss the opportunity to play the Twins without Buxton and Simmons. They SHOULD have to forfeit since THEY were the cause of the cancellation. We should have W’s for 4/17 and 4/18 !!!

Here’s the latest. 4 cases within Twins clubhouse. All of them variant cases. That’s not fantastic news. Hopefully they will do well as the players are likely vaxxed. That’s a high concentration of people getting the variant while vaxxed.

MLB Trade Rumors mentioned that the Twins are 85% vaccinated, but it takes 14 days for full immunity. Looks like they got the virus not too long after the shot.

Jim do you have a link for that info? I can’t find it.

As for the timeline- what are you basing your belief on regarding these specific players and when they were vaccinated?

By the way we know Simmons was not vaxxed because he has stated on social media (before getting Covid) that he refuses to do so. What an idiot endangering his teammates.

Not in my opinion. A team is like a community. Simmons owed it to his teammates to get vaccinated to protect himself and them. I realize I have very strong opinions on this and find anyone who is refusing to get vaccinated- from a professional baseball player who puts his teammates at risk to a member of society that puts others of risk – to be an idiot. Let me restate that IDIOT. I have heard excuses ranging from there being microchips to cleaning products in the vaccine; from Bill Gates to Big Government following you. It’s all conspiracy bullshit. Anyone who buys into this conspiracy crap needs to have their head examined.

Uh Huh . A vaccine that was developed in record time with limited overseas clinical trials utilizing genetic engineering techniques that there is absolutely ZERO data on long term effects to our health including our nervous system & reproductive organs?

Shouldn’t athletes who are still in their physical prime and may not have even started a family yet be given the choice whether or not to take the vaccine? And why waste anyone’s time talking about the maintenance vitamin regiments and therapeutics that have proven to be extremely reliable in preventing and treating the virus?

But I’m sure You’re right they should all just roll up their sleeps and smile while they get their little pin prick. How dare they try to take away our daily entertainment watching a silly little game with small white hard ball and stick of wood played on a freshly manicured green field. Just STFU & DAQ’s!

Look, I advocate approaching any vaccine with skeptic caution, and I reflexively rebel against social pressure. But in this case, I say that it is a civic responsibility to get vaccinated. There may be ZERO data on long term effects to our health from these vaccines, but there is greater than zero data on the possible long term effects to our health from COVID-19 infection. Thus, there is less risk from the vaccine than there is from the illness, according to current data.

I am not scared about COVID-19 personally, although I should be because of my health situation and the fact that I am regularly in the company of health professionals.

I am terrified that I might pass it on to someone who might find it fatal. That’s why I got vaccinated at the first opportunity.

PEOPLE CAN DIE FROM COVID-19. And they have. So get vaccinated, for goodness’ sake.

So wTF is the point of skeptic caution when you claim we all have a civic responsibility to get the vaccine? Does that mean we can close our eyes when they jam the needle into our arm?

Yes. Close your eyes and get the jab. Fall backwards and help society. It’s time to think broader than individual concerns or suspicions. Think of this as war. To do your part for society – get vaccinated. The worries you expressed are the stuff of social media threads. These vaccines were able to be created quickly because they were built on the collective knowledge of the last 2 decades.

Yes like the war we are now abandoning in Afghanistan and Iraq after almost 20 years at the cost of Trillions of dollars and thousand and thousands of human lives? Please spare me “for the good of society” bullshit.

I can certainly respect your opinion regarding the vaccine. If you want to blindly follow the government and the medicinal industrial complex (et al) thats your business. You don’t know any more than the next guy regarding the long term ( or short term ) effectiveness of these vaccines or any other therapeutic as it relates to the virus. So stop trying to force the “its your Civic duty” obligation down everyone’s throat. People are intelligent enough on their own to make proper decisions when provided all of the facts. Its this kind of Woke “we know whats good for you” mindset that is now ripping this country apart.

Well I understand and respect your perspective. We just disagree. Science, public health and vaccines have nothing to do with “woke” culture in my opinion. It has mistakenly been included by many who attempt to argue against getting the vaccine- in fact it’s a rallying cry. The idea that personal freedoms appear to be in jeopardy by a cancel-culture is something completely different from the vaccine question. But it is being lumped into personal freedoms- like it’s my right not to be jabbed! Except that’s where I completely disagree. I think there are times where personal freedoms give way to the greater good. That is why I used the war analogy and I should have said World War. Young men willingly made the ultimate sacrifice in the 40s and for that we have dubbed that generation the ‘greatest’. They thought of society and were willing to do what was best for it. Is there a leap of faith here – yes. Must we trust institutions that have arguably not necessarily earned our trust – yes. That’s what the greater good and science is all about.

I hate cancel culture. I don’t like many of the things going on in society. But I feel these vaccines are revolutionary and I trust the scientists who spent decades training and researching with only scientific endeavor and public health as their motivator. I trust them not the big companies. Just like I trust the airline pilot not the airline company.

I have heard and understand the argument you put forward. I respectfully think it’s one of convenience and puts ‘me’ in front of ‘we’.

I don’t want to get into an argument with anyone. But let me be clear. I am not claiming that we all have a civic responsibility to get vaccinated. I am stating it. It’s my opinion. If you disagree, that’s fine. I do understand your objections. All I’m saying is that the COVID-19 vaccines survived my skeptical caution.

I think the only way these games get made up is part of 2 double headers during the Angels visit to Target field July 22nd through 25th. So it looks like we will have twin Twin City twin billings against the Twins but don’t worry, we’ll be the home team for 1/2 of these games.

Now that they can have fans in the stands, I’m not sure what the rules are for providing a home town advantage for the visiting team other than having them bat last ( As we all found out about last year with Victor’s premature walk off call) Will they prevent the fans in the stands for these makeup games to root for the “visiting team” ? I guess it will be like Angel home games when the MFY or the Chowds and their annoying fans come to town. And what other advantages do the interim home teams get? Do we get our own ground rules ( I hope they leave the yellow line back in Anaheim) or what about the players walk up music ? Do only the Angel players get their tunes and not the Twins?

There needs to be rules for these things.

This is NOT fair. Unless they keep fans out of our “home” games at Target Field.

And even if they did keep fans out (which I doubt they’ll do since ownership loses ticket and concession revenues) we still won’t have the “home cooking” intangible advantages of playing in Anaheim. This is above and beyond the crowd.

Manfred is a horrible Commish if he allows this to happen. As Bluto said the Twins should have to forfeit.

To be fair The Angels will be taking advantage of some of this unfairness themselves when the Blue Jays come to Anaheim in August as the home team to make up last Sunday’s Florida rainout.

Good point. And the Jays should complain about that. But that was due to a rain out and not someone on the other team coming down with COVID due in part to their own negligence. So the context of the reschedule is a little different…

Well technically it was due to the COVID. The Blue Jays were forced to play at their spring training facility instead of their Weather proof domed stadium because of the Canadian government’s draconian rules.

If the vaccine stances among MLB players are anything like the Marine Corps (relatively similar demo – lots of young jocks) then maybe not. It only takes a few to cause a problem.

Also possible they’re having the same difficulty getting it most are. Some could be between doses when they’re still susceptible, etc.

Big yikes stats. My (Army) recruiting station has 13 people… only 4 people volunteered to get the vaccine (myself being one of them). Three of those who said no previously had Covid. Wild stuff.

Could be due to variants that aren’t as well shielded by the vaccines that were designed a year ago. The CDC tracks these cases and calls them breakthrough infections. So far they’ve identified about 6000 breakthrough infections out of 77M fully vaccinated people. About 30% of those were entirely asymptomatic, and most of the rest were very mild. In cases where the vaccine doesn’t prevent infection, it still helps prevent severe illness and speeds up recovery.

Phew, that was a close one. We were all almost exposed to Covid watching the game on TV. Thank science we’re saved! I didn’t see any of Garlicks at bats last night so Covid didn’t leach into my rods and cones that way either.

What we need is team branded hazmat suites….. or we could be more stylish AND more obviously submissive and compliant if they made team branded BDSM gimp suits. Keep that mouth zipper zipped if you really care about Covid. Nothing keeps you safe from super spreaders like a latex body suit…. and they’re durable, so Cali can bring back Covid restrictions again and again for years and we won’t need a new one.

Is there a T-Spring for body suits?

You’d think with everything going electronic (ballpark app for tickets, food orders, parking) that there would be a way it could notify you that your event is postponed. I don’t even care the reason.
